How to stop safari on iPad from opening tabs
When browsing, Safari opens new tabs unexpectedly when I do not want a new tab. I end up with many tabs, often more than a dozen, open unnecessarily.
Is there a way to control or stop Safari from opening volumes of tabs? Under what conditions does it open new tabs?
Sorry, you can't. Tabs came with iOS5 I believe. Best you can do is manage them and close extras as they pop up.

How to stop safari on ios7 from remembering history?
How to stop safari on ios7 from remembering history?
I hate to continually delete my history. Is there a way to stop it or set it to delete it on its own every day?Hey Bigchins!
I have an article here that can address your question for you. The feature you are looking for is called private browsing, and it is explained here:
To enable or disable Private Browsing, turn Private Browsing on or off.
Private Browsing in iOS 5 protects private information and blocks some websites from tracking your behavior. Safari doesn't remember the pages you visit, your search history, or your AutoFill information.
Note: While Private Browsing is enabled, the Safari bars appear black or dark instead of blue or gray.

How to stop iTunes on iPad from zooming to artwork?
Is there any way to stop iTunes on the iPad from Zooming to the **** album artwork when selecting a song? This is annoying and wastes time.
It only zooms in on the album artwork for the first song you choose, after that it just plays the song when you touch it.

How to stop the Task Pane from opening automatically
Hi there,
I use adobe acrobat XI pro to work on lectures and frequently go from the highlit tool to the "adding text" tool in the content modification tool group. Each time i click on the "add text" tool, the tool bar on the right side of the screen or Task Pane pops up, making my document too small to read, and I have to close the task pane each time before being able to write.
Is there any way to get around that?Hey Aadesh, thank you for your answer
I hope the links for the pictures work, i wasn't quite sure which link to copy.
as you can see, i work on a small computer, and unfortunately, it makes quite a big difference...

Especially when i try to work on 2 corresponding documents at once...

Clicking on tools it what I do each time, but I would have loved to find a way to be able to write something without having that bar show up... Would you have any idea if this would be possible? For example when you click on the highlight tool, the "comment" task pane does not automatically open, this only happens with the "Tool" task pane.
Maybe there is a parameter I could apply? -
How to Stop one users ipad from backing up to My User iTunes
I have 3 Users on the mac.
We each have either an iPhone, iPad or iPad mini.
They often all stayed plugged in for charging when not in use.
When I open my user name iTunes, I want to jsut see and backup just my devices.
is the a way to just select which devices connect to my user iTunesAh, OK, I'll try again. I went straight to the question, avoiding all the irrelevant distractions associated with so many posts, in order to prevent the thread going off on a tangent. But I can see that that won't work.
Getting the irrelevant stuff out the way first:
MacTower with 6 USB PORTS, 4 on the back, two on the front. No hubs. All devices charge just fine.
3 different Users of the Mac, each with their own loggin Username. Two of them are computer incompetent, and just can't seem to look at iTunes when there are different iDevices plugged in without choosing or otherwise changing sync settings of devices that are not theirs.... despite the fact they are named with their own names.
So, back to the question.
3 different iDevices ( iPod, iPad & iPhone) are all plugged in.
Each device belongs to different User
User A comes along and logs in
Fires up iTunes
iTunes recognises all three devices and connects to them all
iTunes backs up a each connected device, and shows them all in the sidebar.
I want to set iTunes up so it only backups Users A's device.
Better still, not have Users B&C's devices appear when logged in as User A -
How to stop javascript alert popups from stealing tab focus?
I have two gmail accounts, and usually a lot of tabs open. So sometimes I log into my other gmail account while a tab somewhere else still is logged in to my other. Sooner or later, the gmail with the old login session notices this, and makes a little alert() popup telling me I've been logged out, a couple minutes after I checked my emails on the other account.
Now the problem is, that firefox because of this alert() popup instantly jumps to that tab, and I lose my place in my tab-jungle. This is very annoying. How do I prevent this inactive tab from stealing my focus/alert messages autofocusing tabs?Hello,
Yes I know, but I don't want to do this. Is there any way to stop firefox from behaving this way?
Thanks -
How do I stop the task panes from opening automatically when I open a PDF?
How do I stop the task panes from opening automatically when I open a PDF?
When I open some of my PDFs the task panes open too. I do not want them to as I have never used them in reader for any purpose. I use reader to READ PDFs. I don't need the task panes and don't want them opening when reader starts.Adobe seem to have decided that they are so important that you must see them. Perhaps because it is their chance to sell you stuff. It seems to vary between releases, are you on the latest? Curiously, many people have no idea how to open and close these panels.

Frank ...
Make sure to quit all open applications before logging out.
Your proflie indicates your Mac has v10.7.1 installed.
If that is the case, updating your system software will help as far as functionaly as well as security.
Install the OS X Lion Update 10.7.5 (Client Combo)
Then restart your Mac.

Anyone know how to stop the "activate" box from blocking usage of a perfectly legal copy of Ilisten? I want to help my dyslexic grandson and this box, including the activation code, keeps popping up, keeping me from using the software. I activated the program and did a few profile building sessions, now it pops up each time I start the program, blocking me from using it. Help sure would be appreciated.
JayI looked at your post this morning and did not know enough to respond, other than to find out that links to iListen now go to newer, renamed software. Considering it's been nine hours with no response, I'm suspecting few people here have experience with that software. You could contact the current copmany that used to sell that package and see if they have any archived support info.
BTW: please check you entry for "Mac OS" in your profile. It says iOS, which cannot run on an iMac. iOS is the system for phone and iPads but can't run on Mac computers. Do "About this Mac" from the Apple menu and see what it says about the OS version. Should look like this:
If the "Processor" line says "Intel," you have a newer Mac than the old modles this forum covers; Intel iMac have their very own forum here:

Anyone any advice on how to stop my mail "activity" from continuously caching? is this a problem? I have had inbox issues recently that are not resolved yet but I am not sure if they are related.
Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash.
Log out and log back in. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. Otherwise, post your results. -
How do I disable Adobe Reader from opening pdfs?
how do I disable Adobe Reader from opening pdfs in Safari? I tried unchecking the box for opening pdfs in browser under Adobe's Internet prefs, but that didn't seem to work.
Hello-
I actually saw a solution to this earlier today. To disable PDF viewing in safari, first quit safari, then open terminal, and type in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES
To re-enable PDF viewing in safari simply open the terminal, and change the "YES" in the command above to a "NO"
Hope this helps.
