How to stop Safari opening on start up

For some reason Safari has started opening up automatically when I start up my Mac. I don't want it to do this. I have looked in preferences for a box to "untick" but can't find one. I would appreciate any suggestions.
I am using Safari 4.1 on an iMac.

Go up to the main Apple Menu --
To System Preferences
to Accounts > Your Account.
On that page, look at Login Items.
Is Safari there? If so, select it, and delete it from there.
You may have to click the padlock & enter your admin password.

  • How to stop safari opening a new tab which relates to inappropriate viewing

When I'm in safari a new tab opens to reveal an awful **** site, why is this happening and how can I stop it? I've had my iPad for 18 months and this has only just started to happen.

Just updating this thread with the solution in this case.
Solution: Go into your template and remove the reference "_blank" which is causing this to open in a new tab.

  • How to stop iphoto opening automatically.

    Hi everyone,
I have forgotten how to stop iphoto opening up when I put my camera memory card in the reader.
I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and I am now using Photoshop Elements 6 on my Macbook.
Thanks in advance and a happy and healthy New Year from England,
    Alan

    Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer but I managed to do it through Image Capture.
You have to have the camera or reader connected then open Image Capture.
I clicked on the device ( name of card reader ) and in the bottom left I could choose from a drop down menu where I wanted the card to open.
    Thanks again,
    Alan

  • How to stop safari on ios7 from remembering history?

How to stop safari on ios7 from remembering history?
I hate to continually delete my history. Is there a way to stop it or set it to delete it on its own every day?

    Hey Bigchins!
I have an article here that can address your question for you. The feature you are looking for is called private browsing, and it is explained here:
To enable or disable Private Browsing, turn Private Browsing on or off.
Private Browsing in iOS 5 protects private information and blocks some websites from tracking your behavior. Safari doesn't remember the pages you visit, your search history, or your AutoFill information.
Note: While Private Browsing is enabled, the Safari bars appear black or dark instead of blue or gray.

  • How to stop Safari from realoading page and worst, start at the TOP?

When clicking something, for example an article in an online newspaper, after reading, when you scroll back to the newspaper, Safari reloads and starts at the TOP of the page. This drives me crazy, and I have to work hard to figure out were I was in the very long frontpage of the online newspaper. Please help!
PS! Opera DOES NOT do this. So I want Safari to behave like Opera :-)
But Opera is not as good on a Mac as on a PC (I tried), so I have to use Safari, and therefore needs to figure this out.
    Please help! :-)

This Apple-forum we now are using are a great example of the how totally useless Safari is.
I tried to find answer for my question, and pressed "more" at the bottom of the page, and then "more" again and again until I found something interesting i want to read. So I was a bit down in the forum frontpage. Opened the forum-post, read and used mouse gestures to get back to the forum.
Safari reloaded and startet at the top of the page, so now I must scroll down and press "more", scroll down again and press "more" again, scroll and press "more" and then once again, just to get where I was in the first place!!!
Well, I am speachless. If this problem is unsolvable, I have no other choice than find another browser to use. This is just too stupid and it drives me crazy!
So, you kind people out there, this is really an emergency.
And if Apple-staff are reading this, well, you now know what you have to do, fix it immediately!

  • How do I stop iphoto opening on start up of mac? (not when adding a device etc)

How do I stop iPhoto opening whenever I start up my mac? (not when adding a device etc) There are lots of answers for stopping it auto-opening when attaching a camera, iPod/Pad and I have 'no application' selected for those, I just cant pin-point how to change the basic start-up/loading setting. Thanks :-)

In iPhoto go to the General preference pane and set No Application as the option when a camera is connected
If that doesn't do the trick connect your device to the Mac and launch Image Capture.  In the lower left hand corner select No Application again:

  • How to stop safari on iPad from opening tabs

When browsing, Safari opens new tabs unexpectedly when I do not want a new tab.  I end up with many tabs, often more than a dozen, open unnecessarily.
Is there a way to control or stop Safari from opening volumes of tabs?  Under what conditions does it open new tabs?

Sorry, you can't. Tabs came with iOS5 I believe. Best you can do is manage them and close extras as they pop up.

  • How to stop iphoto opening.

    Hi Everyone,
How do I stop iphoto opening every time I put a card in my card reader. I use Photo Elements and it is a nuisance having to quit iphoto each time. I have removed it from the dock but it still opens. I am new to Panther and iphoto so I am still feeling my way around.
    Regards from England,

Open the Application IMAGE CAPTURE. Go to preferences to select what if anything happens when you insert your card in the reader.
Image Capture preferences determine this setting. Don't ask me why

You can achieve this by going into system preferences>general>uncheck "close windows when quitting applications."  The apps will open fullscreen next time, even after a reboot.  One caveat, the window will open in the last session left...
    Hope this helps!
Thank you, this resolved my question as well.

  • Keep getting a prompt to install java even when not surfing the net. I have java installed and the control panel says it is right version. Want to know how to stop prompts. This started after I installed Yosemite.

Since installing Yosemite I keep getting a prompt to install Java even when I am not surfing the net. Went system preferences and I have recommended version installed. I want to know how to stop the prompts. I do not have this problem on my iMac.

Most likely, you have either the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. Both depend on the Java runtime distributed by Apple. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it. Otherwise, install Java.

  • How to stop the executable from starting when opened

    Hi Guys,
I am building an exe with the application builder. I am not able to find a way to stop the exe from running when opened. I dont need the exe to run. I know I m missing a very basic step here but I m not able to do that.
Could anyone explain me how to do this.
    Regards,
    Nitin

    Hello,
This is Dominic L. from Applications Engineering at National Instruments. This was reported to R&D (CAR#41DAPUQU) and was fixed in LabVIEW 8.2.1. Here is a link to the current evaluation software download for LabVIEW:
    http://digital.ni.com/demo.nsf/websearch/14f9ce475127ade786256ac60070926c?opendocument
This particular bug actually renders all the build options for source file settings unusable. While the other options can be set manually in the source VI properties, the start-up VI will always run when an executable is opened.
Here are three different workarounds to this:
    Option 1 - Upgrade to 8.2.1.
Option 2 - Check "Enable debugging" and "Wait for debugger on launch" in the Advanced page of the build specification. One side effect is this will include the block diagrams of the VIs and extra code for debug tool support. Note that if you don't protect the source code (block diagram), it kind of defeats the purpose of creating an executable.
Option 3 - Use a dummy startup VI to launch the desired startup VI.
For the third workaround, the attached "Dummy Startup VI.vi" uses VI server to open the desired startup VI's front panel and then closes.  To use the Dummy Startup VI follow these steps:
Add the Dummy Startup VI to the project.
Open the Dummy Startup VI and change "Main VI.vi" to the VI you would like to open but not run in the project and save.
In the source files page of the build, select the Dummy Startup VI as a startup VI and the VI you would like to open but not run as a support VI.
    Build and run.
    I hope this helps.
    Have a great evening!
    Best Regards,
    Dominic L.

  • How can I stop safari opening with BTFon hotspot on my imac

Every time I boot up, and open Safari, I get BT Fon as my home page.
In my settings, I have yahoo set as my home page, but it makes no difference I always get the BT Fon page.
I have tried opening the yahoo page and then going to "Make the current page my home page" but it doesn't work the next time I open Safari
I've read a lot of correspondence on this issue but it related to iPhones, I didn't see anything relating to imacs.

Firstly adjust Safari to the opening screen you require; then,
Go to Safari menu > Preferences > General.   Half way down is the screen you are on highlighted, and below that an invitation to set to current page.   Click on that, quit Safari and then re-open Safari.   Should now open on the correct page.
