How to stop Syncing

I just got my 3Gs. I also bought a USB desktop cradle which charges my iphone and connects it to my pc.
My problem is that every time I finish a call and put the iphone back in it's cradle, it launches iTunes and the resyncs. I don't want this. My contacts change very rarely.
So how do I prevent this? What I want is that when I put the Iphone back in it's cradle, all that happens is the battery gets charged. When I want to sync, I will launch Itunes manually

You need to disable iTunes Helper to prevent iTunes from launching automatically if not already launched when an iPod or iPhone is connected.

If there are photos and/or video in your iPhone's Camera Roll, your iPhone will also be detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer. Although data in your iPhone's Camera Roll is included with your iPhone's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the sync process, this data should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera. After you choose whichever application to be used for the import, there should be a preference setting with the chosen application to not automatically launch when your iPhone is connected with there is data in your iPhone's Camera Roll.

• How to STOP syncing with Outlook via GPRS?

I use an unlocked iPhone 3G with a prepaid mobile card.
Everytime I open my Calendar function on the iPhone (just to see the days and dates) the iPhone attempts to sync over the air with my Outlook account calendar via GPRS.
This costs a bomb on the prepaid card, and I want to stop the sync function.
Would someone kindly tell me how to STOP the iPhone from syncing with my Outlook Calendar?

If calendar events are synced over the air, this means you are accessing an Exchange account or a MobileMe account.
If you don't want to sync calendar events over the air with the account, you need to turn Calendars off for over the air syncing for the account preferences on your iPhone. This will erase all calendars and calendar events from your iPhone and you will need to sync direct with a supported application on your computer via the iTunes sync process. If an Exchange account with Outlook on a Winblows PeeCee, this will not be possible.

• How to stop Syncing two iPhones

I have Phone 4s an bought one for mum, how do I stop mine from auto sync apps with mums iPhone?

Set yours up as a brand new iPhone.  Doing the following would completely erase it and make it as if you just took it out of the box software-wise:
Settings > General > Reset > Erase all content and settings
Again, it will then look like a brand new iPhone.  You would set up your own Apple ID and password, and start from scratch with nothing but what comes on the iPhone.

• Exchange ActiveSync - how to stop syncing

I would like e-mails and calendar sync only manually, not automatically.
Everywhere in setup I sync turned off or set to manual sync.
When then manually synchronize emails, everything ok. Emails syncs only when I want to. But, when I manually synchronize my calendar, synchronization is performed. Unfortunately, they also synchronize emails altogether.
And - when I synchronize the calendar manually for the first time and since then, calendar and mailbox automatically synchronized spontaneously. Synchronization does not stop. Help just restart my phone. After the first manually synchronize the calendar, the calendar and then emais sync automatically again. Please help. Thank you.

Hi VaclavM
Welcome to the community.
In this case you could try unticking the boxes within the accounts section.
Menu > Settings > Accounts > Exchange Active Sync > Choose email account > Untick everything aside from Calendar.
Let us know how you get on.

• How to stop Sync from duplicating my Bookmarks

When I open FF on either my Mac or PC, I find duplicate bookmarks. When I delete the dups, they appear the next day. This has happened now for the past week and I am tired of having to delete them each day!!
What is going on and how do I fix this?

I was having this problem. After almost pulling all my hair out trying to figure out why my bookmarks keep duplicating, even after I deleted my Firefox installation, deleted my Sync account, and created a fresh installation and fresh sync account, and I still watched as my bookmarks kept duplicating even after they were totally deleted. I then disabled my WiFi to see if I could isolate the problem, and I was still watching my bookmarks duplicate in multiples of 20+ right before my eyes!!! Then, I knew the problem was much deeper than the bookmarks Syncing process. It turned out to be a conflict between Firefox Syncing bookmarks and Apple's iCloud bookmarks Add-on for Firefox. Once I removed Apple's iCloud Bookmarks Add-on, the duplicating stopped. I restored my bookmarks backup saved to my cloud account and everything is working perfect now. Thank goodness!

• How to stop syncing voice memos

iTunes is driving me crazy because every time I sync my iPhone 5S 16GB it is importing my voice memos into my Library despite the fact that I have done the following:
the "sync only checked songs and videos" box is checked
the "include voice memos" box is UNCHECKED
all of the "genre" boxes are unchecked
I have no music on my phone
I am using iTunes 11.1.2.32 on my Windows PC and iOP 7.1.2 on my phone.
The only thing that I can report that works is turning off "Sync Music" entirely.
Related, the only strange thing I can report is that when I go to the Sync Music page in iTunes, when my phone is connected by the cable, and check the box for "Sync Music," the amount of space left on my phone drops from 3.34 GB to 2.89 GB -- even though ALL of the boxes are unchecked for playlists, artists, genres, and albums, and it says "0 Songs."
It is as if there's another whole category of songs it is syncing but it won't show it to me.
I went to the Apple store today and they had no clue.
Thanks for any ideas.

How many Gigs do you have on your computer? if you convert the voice memos to AAC which is possible after you put them on iTunes, they take up virtually no room.
When you plug in your iPod and a notice comes up asking if you want iTunes to put the voice memos from your iPod into your Library, selct "No".
If you want the voice memos to stay off your computer, your going to have to manage every manually, if you have iTunes manage automatically, it will delete the memos off your iPod because iTunes duplicates Movies, Music, TV shows, Memos, etc, from iTunes directly to iPod. Managing all material manually is a heavy price to pay just to keep memos off your computer. That's the way it goes. If any knows hows to keep the memos out of the Library but still keep on the iPod, that would be pretty intelligent of them.

• How to stop syncing books on ipad

Hi all,
I have this weird problem where I want to manually handle ebooks/epubs/pdf's on my iPad 2 and iTunes 10.5 does not allow me to do this.
I select the iPad in iTunes, then go to the 'Books' tab and when I deselect 'Sync books' and hit apply it asks "Are you sure you do not want to sync books? All existing books on the iPad will be removed". I then hit "Don't Sync Books" and iTunes seemingly does something, however, after it has applied the supposed changes, the same checkbox That I just deselected ('Sync books') is selected again, indicating that the next time I sync my iPad it will sync the ebooks again. It just prescribes me that I HAVE TO sync books. But I DO NOT WANT TO sync books because it means that I have duplicate files, one copy on my harddrive and another one in the iTunes library. This is redundant data storage and totally unnecessary And a waste of storage space. Can anyone tell me how I can really turn off the book syncing?
Much appreciated,
Fazza

Hi and thanks. That works and at least the book shelf is now empty. However, iTunes still does not allow me to drag files directly from the Finder to the iPad. The books/pdfs still have to be in the iTunes library for me to be able to drag them onto the iPad. This tying users down in Apple applications is starting to annoy me. I have a perfectly organised file and folder structure and I know where my stuff is. I don't need a piece of software that babysits me and forces me to use *just that* software to always open a file. What if I want to use GoodReader or something else?

• How to stop syncing Documents & Data?

When unchecking Documents and Data in System Preferences/iCloud I get the threatening message that
all synced Documents and Data on my Mac will be deleted... Shouldn't that be the other way around?
Anyway, it's not what I want: I just want to keep the Documents and Data on my Mac as they are right now,
and I don't want them in iCloud any longer.
Can anybody enlighten me on how to accomplish this?

Well, the ones that are synced to iCloud (or kept there) when the item "Documents and Data" is checked in
System Preferences/iCloud. Also the ones that are threatened (by OS X Lion) to be deleted on my Mac when
I uncheck that item. Heck, I dunno, I suppose there must be documents there, otherwise OS X (or iCloud) wouldn't threaten to remove them, right?
FWIW, I signed up for iCloud when I got my iMac last year, but now on reflection I don't like the idea of my files or backups to be on some server somewhere in the world. So, a wider question is: how does a person get out
of iCloud altogether without losing any files. It was easy getting into iCloud, but I find it difficult to get out of it.

• How to stop syncing notes from iphone to ipad????

Everytime I change something on my notes app on my iphone, it will do the same thing to my ipad. I had deleted a note on my ipad and the same note was deleted on my phone, which I did not want to happen. I want to be able to stop it from syncing together. I thought it was icloud that was doing it, but i have the notes turned off on the icloud settings on both devices.

You can sync notes direct with the Mail.app on your Mac via the iTunes sync process and the same for contacts and calendar events, or over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone.
Are syncing calendar events direct with iCal on your Mac via the iTunes sync process as well as syncing Calendars over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone? Doing both will duplicate the calendars and calendar events on your iPhone, and the same for contacts.
If you are syncing Notes direct with the Mail.app via the iTunes sync process, you deselect syncing notes under the Info tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
If you are syncing Notes over the air with your MobileMe account on your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Select your MobileMe account. Turn Notes off for over the air syncing.
