How to store your macbook?

I'm headed off to Basic Training this summer for the Army. I'll be gone for 13 weeks, and i was wondering, what's the best way to store your Macbook, for that period of time?

Read these:
Apple - Batteries - Notebooks in which Apple specifically recommends discharging to 50% for long-term storage.
How to store batteries which states, "While lead-acid batteries must always be kept at full charge, nickel and lithium-based chemistries should be stored at 40% state-of-charge (SoC). This level minimizes age-related capacity loss, yet keeps the battery in operating condition even with some self-discharge."
Recommended storage temperature is 69ºF (15ºC).

  • How long did your MacBook Pro take to arrive?

My MBP is coming direct from Apple but as it was purchased via a reseller I have no tracking.
Its been over 9 working days already, but the apple site says 2-3 days is typical?
I'm soooo excited but its quickly turning to disappointment with every afternoon.
How long did yours take to arrive?

    Hi there,
When I ordered my custom MBP on June 25, it also said 2-3 days to ship. It shipped the 28th from China and arrived via FedEx on July 3rd. That was with standard shipping. I'm not sure if you used expedited shipping or not, but fyi, it is expedited only after going through customs - i.e. 2 day shipping will mean 2 days after going through customs. Depending on when you ordered, especially if you ordered right before or after Independence Day, it could be a day or two extra to process.
Good luck, and I hope you enjoy it when it finally arrives.

  • How to track your macbook if stolen

How to to track a macbook I have already set my icloud on my mac but it says its not the right one.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
To track the computer, you must have turned on Find my Mac. If not, you can't track the Mac.
If you turned on Find my Mac, open http://www.icloud.com, log in with your Apple ID and select "Find my iPhone". Note that the Mac must be connected to the Internet in order to be tracked, so if it's not connected, you can't track it anymore

  • How to reset your macbook without the cd ?

i cant find the cd that came with my macbook and now my mac is getting really slow and keep freezing all the time, im afraid of virus or software problems thats why i and reinstal all the programs again but i want make sure the computer is empty like brand new what do i do? pls help

I called AppleCare 1-800-APL-CARE (1-800-275-2273) to check on how much they charge for the gray restore disks that originally came with the MacBook and was quoted $16 dollars per disk plus S & H. Which would be $32 for the two disks. With the original disks you also get the iLife that was current whenyour MacBook was bought included on the #2 disk.
You can get Snow Leopard for $29 if you have at least 1gb of RAM and a working DVDdrive. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY  You won't need the box set unless you want the full iLife '11 and iWork '09. If you only want iPhoto or other single apps you can get them from the App Store after you've upgraded to10.6.6. iPhoto, iMovie or Garage Band for $15 each and Pages, Keynote or Numbers for $20 each.

  • How long as your Macbook been in repair?

I gave mine to a genius on the 25th of august. Its been 15 days since that and it still isn't fixed yet, the status is "On hold-part on order" The applecare people I've talked to said it's waiting on a heatsink and top bezel thing. I was quoted 5-7 bussiness days and its been 11 so far.

Apple sent me a box, I sent it in on a Monday and had it back on Thursday. It seems taking it into an Apple Store takes longer for some reason. Call Customer Relations if you're not happy. That may speed things up.

  • How noisy is your macbook?

just wondering because mine is a little. While sitting in my silent room at night not particulary close I still can hear a buzzing sound comming from under the the keyboard- "g" or "H"keys area. Fan is just 1300~1500 and I guess it is a CPU sound but is it natural or it is just me who panics? IT is not so noisy! it's just irritating especially when you watching a film lying close to your laptop

The fan is always on but on a low RPM if you are not doing much CPU intensive stuff and can barely be heard if at all at this low speed.
But most 5400 RPM or faster hard drives make a sound that is much like fan noise because they of course are blowing air so to speak as they spin, and at the higher speeds the more noise they tend to make.
I could always hear my 5400 RPM HD making a fan-like noise and can also hear my new 7200 RPM drive making a similar but somewhat different fan-like noise.

  • HT1446 How do we charge MacBook Pro 13 inch?

I don't know how to charge it. Can anyone help me?

Plug in your charger block into a wall or power socket,... plug the magsafe end of the cable to the magnetic female connector on your macbook on the back left to start charging.
Keep it plugged in when near a socket so you keep the charging cycles DOWN on your LiPo (lithium polymer) cells / battery.
Just unplug it every month at LEAST and drain down to 30% or so.
*Contrary to some myths out there, there is protection circuitry in your macbook and therefore you cannot 'overcharge' it when plugged in and already fully charged
LiPo (lithium polymer, same as in your macbook) batteries do not need conditioning. However...
LiPo batteries do NOT like to be dropped down to 15% or so often,....key word being "often"
Never let your Macbook die from power, you can corrupt files that way, and the batteries do not like it.
The only quantified abuse seen to LiPo cells is instances when  often the cells are repeatedly drained very low.
Contrary to what some might say, LIPo batteries have an "ideal" break in period. First ten cycles or so, don't discharge down past 40% of the battery's capacity.
Same way you dont take a new car out and speed and rev the engine hard first 100 or so miles.
*Also, if youre going to store your macbook away for a few weeks or more,... make sure it has at least a 50% or so charge.
*Cycle count / use/ lifespan is one thing that cant be countered.
Proper treatment is another thing. Just because LiPo batteries dont need conditioning in general,.. does NOT mean they dont have an ideal use / recharge environment. Anything can be abused even if it doesnt need conditioning.
Just use and enjoy your new macbook,

  • How to identify fake macbook air

    hi guys,
i have been using macbook pro for quite sometime an very happy with it. now i am looking for second unit. i cam across a second hand unit of 2013 macbook air. how do i make sure this unit is original? are there any fake product in the market? how do i recognise them?
    regards

You could check the product serial number against the online identification sites, that of course
could be faked. Also, if the computer has an OS X and is able to tell you in System Profiler or
other listing of internal hardware, a regular PC hardware would appear a bit different than Mac.
With the questionable product in your possession or close proximity for inspection, you may
find more information. If you can start it & read the information inside, much more is learned.
•How to identify your MacBook Air - Apple Support
Specifications could be cross-checked with online accessible databases, http://everymac.com
shows builds of Apple product listed and if you use an identify by serial number database, to
see what the alleged Apple or PC-fake isn't or is, that should be easy... Easier if you have it.

How to find your Mac's model and age? - ASC user tip
Some of these sites also offer visual identification of models, where to look for in-device
serial numbers, some may be hidden or inside; others visible if unit is On, in software.
Hopefully this helps somewhat. Also an indicator may be price. If a new Apple computer or
an iDevice relies on the original owner's Apple ID and their information, it may not be worth
owning unless they transfer it. If the unit has a tie-in to an AppleID and they haven't set it
up for a new user, you may have to take the unit to an Apple Authorized service provider to
have them help set up a new owner (appleID) if you don't know how. -- And take along the
original owner whose ID set up the Mac in the first place, so they can transfer ownership.
A fake product should not need an AppleID or it may have an illegal clone on board. A fake
would probably either be a hack- in tosh or a windows pc that looks like MacBook Air. Or a
copy made by some contractor to look like a Mac. You could look into the Apple site and
check to see how to inquire deeper, in Apple Legal site. Or how to report a fake.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • How to store phone contacts to sim card on the BB 8900?

I need to know how to store my contacts stored on my 8900 phone to the sim card, as I cannot find an option to do it. Even when I use the desktop manager, I can only recover the contacts to be stored on my phone and not my sim card.
    Thanks

    Hi there!
I'm a little confused now as to what you desire...the two sentences in your post seem a little bit contradictory. Are you asking how to store your contacts on your SIM? Or are you asking how to backup the contacts that are already stored on your SIM?
    Thanks!
