How to switch apple id on ipad without losing data and info

i gave my dad a ipad for christmas, i set it up under my account( the mistake) so how do i switch everything to his apple id without losing everything ie songs, movies, game stats?

You can sign out and then into his Apple ID without losing data, but the iTunes Store content will remain associated with yours. Changing that requires deleting and redownloading it, which will erase application data when done on an iOS device.

  • How to change apple ID on iPad without losing any saved pics

Hello, I gave my wife my iPad 2 with the understanding that as soon as I could afford it I could get a new iPad. I never changed the apple id on her machine and she now has over a thousand pics that she doesn't want to lose and this friday I'm picking up the new iPad. What are my options in regards to the pics? Also there is no iTunes via computer as an option. Thanks

Why would you believe that changing the ID would cause loss of photos?

No they will always remain under the old Apple ID.
You can't switch purchases between Apple accounts.

  • How to sync music on my Itouch without losing data/songs?

I have read plenty of answers saying to allow a transfer or move all the music from old computer to new one. I don't have that option. My old computer is dead, I tried to get this new one before it died but I wasn't able to. Now I'm afraid that by syncing my ipod with my new computer I'll lose everything... which I'd rather not.
    Please help, thanks.

  • How do I turn off iCloud on my iPhone & iPad without losing data?

I've been a staunch Apple user since my old Apple IIGS. I'm running the latest Snow leopard, and had already made the decision NOT to upgrade to Lion when I found out that Quicken wouldn't work. I don't use MobileMe, and manually synched my "new" iPhone 4 and 1st geiPad thru iTunes. When I upgraded my iPhone to IOS 5, I had problems with my music that I FINALLY was able to straighten out. I then set up an iCloud account, as it promised to be a better way to keep everything on my 3 devices synchronized. When I synched with my computer, my iPhone & iPad both got double events in iCal. I've figured out that the events were loading from the computer AND from the cloud. I've been reading discussion groups that say that once you've set up iCloud, if you turn it off (or delete the account) you'll lose all the data on your computer that you've sent to the cloud (which in my case is Contacts & iCal).
What I really need is good advice on how to reset my devices to "pre iCloud" without losing any data. I hope someone can help me. I usually am somewhat slow in jumping on the "newest technology" bandwagon. Thanks!

I have deleted my iCloud account before (to test something out) and it asked me if I want to keep the information stored on iCloud on my phone.  I hope that works for you.

  • How do I restore my Ipad without losing data?

I'm trying to follow the instructions here but Itunes won't give me the option to set up as new Ipad it just says Restore and Update or Update
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.

That's difficult to answer because I don't see anything you're doing right...
What is it, exactly, you're attempting to do?
What state is the device in now? Is it in recovery move? Is it Disabled? Is it working with all your data currently intact? Why do you feel the need to restore it?

  • HT201365 please help me restore Ipad without losing data, it is disabled now?\

i recently updated to io7s ,,,,, entered my passcode too many times incorrectly an ipad disabled me ..... how do I restore without losing any or all of my data?

You will need to connect the device to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the device and re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the device into recovery mode :http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
if you have no backup in itunes, then once you get the device going using the above, perform a full reset and restore from icloud.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your device.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

  • How can I make a drive bootable without losing data on it?

Is there a way to make a second internal drive bootable without losing the data that is already on it?
The second drive was created under Panther 10.3.9. My main internal drive has had a clean install of Tiger 10.4.3. The second drive used to appear in the start up disk list when I was running 10.3.9 on the main drive. That is, it used to be bootable under 10.3.9. No kidding. After the main drive was given a clean install of Tiger, the second drive disappeared from the start up disk list. Please note: the second drive remains completely accessible when I am running off the main drive in 10.4.3. I can even use the few applications I had placed on the drive. It appears as separate drive under disk utility.
I assume the second drive was installed as slave. (Both it and the main drive were independently bootable under 10.3.9.) It is not locked. "Ignore ownership" is not checked. The system has read-write privileges. Admin has read-write all others are read only. I am the only person who has access to this machine. It is not networked.
I tried to ask this question a few days ago, but I think the way I phrased it confused the issue. My real question is NOT how did this get like this? It is can I make a drive bootable when it already has data on it?
    Thanks
    G4 Panther & Tiger   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    You replied:
    the drive that you cannot
boot from is a separate physical hard drive from the
internal drive with 10.4.3. Is that correct?
    Yes.
Have you used System Preferences > Startup Disk and
looked to see if the 10.3.9 system shows up there?
Yes, I have looked and it's not there.
I got the impression that you have backed up the 10.3.9
disk and that you do not really need the data there.
Yes, I backed up a drive that was bootable, but then it lost its "bootabilty" and what I got was two non-bootable drives--the original second internal drive that I'm asking about and the back-up of it. I want the data on the drive and I wan the drive to be bootable.
One thing that you might try when you are booted off
your 10.4.3 system is to use Disk Utility, select the
other disk and do a Repair Disk.
Done that and it says there is no problem. Nada. Zero. It just won't boot, no more, no how, no way. BUT it remains fully accessible--I can access all my info. It's just become a storage drive that cannot be booted. Go figure.
    reformatting means
destroying the data on the disk.
Yup, which is why I asked my original question. Does anyone know if there is any way to make a drive bootable without destroying the data on it?
I suspect the answer is no (given these particulars), but I thought some wise super-techie out there might have a trick up their sleeve.

  • How do you make a new icloud without losing data?

    Hello,
My little brother had gotten an ipad for his birthday one year. Since I was the only at the time who had an icloud account, I thought I'd make it easier for him (as he was 8 at the time) and connect my icloud account, to his ipad. However, over time, obviously apps and pictures have accumulated and my icloud account is extremely full, especially as it is linked to my iphone as well. Now, I was wondering whether there is any way of me being able to create him his own icloud, and transfer his photo stream and apps to it. I know I can go to delete account, but would that delete everything on his ipad?
    Please help me!!

Migrating to a new account will only delete photo stream photos, not camera roll photos.  To avoid this, save them to the camera roll by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll, before deleting the existing account from your phone.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), provide the password to turn off Find My iDevice and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on a separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com from a computer and delete the other person's data from your account.
Getting each other's text messages is caused by using the same Apple ID for iMessage.  To fix this, the person with the new iCloud account should go to Settings>Messages<Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with their new iCloud ID.  To avoid getting each other's FaceTime calls, do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • How to unlock iPod touch 4th gen, without losing data?

So, I'm locked out of my 4th Gen iPod touch. I've been searching for a way to unlock it, since I was pranked and the person who pranked me forgot what they changed the password to, and I'm never going to be able to guess it. I would just use the features in Find My Ipod, but I'm stuck in airplane mode, so it doesn't work.
Short of resetting or jailbreaking, I couldn't find any way to get it unlocked. I'm hesitant to reset, because I have data(such as DLC from discontinued apps) that I won't be able to get back if I wipe and reset. As far as I can tell, the iTunes backup/restore thing doesn't back up the apps or save data from the apps, or at least I haven't seen anything definitive that says so.  Jailbreaking I don't think I could do if I wanted to, since from what I've seen I'd need a firmware number that I can't get to.
So, is there any way to either disconnect from airplane mode, or reset the password while I'm locked out, without resetting? I don't want to reset unless there's no other way.
Also I'm running iOS 5.1.1 if that makes a difference. Thanks!

You have to place the iPod in either Recovery mode or DFU mode and restore the the iPod. That erases the iPod. That is how this security feature uses.
However, you may be able get some info off the restored iPod by:
