How to switch my Atheros AR8151 network adapter to 1G speed

Hi,
I have an Alienware 17x3 with an Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20). Since a reinstall of my laptop I can't get my network up to 1G anymore. The connection is always 100M.
I already tried several drivers but no luck.
Can someone help me pls?
Thanks in advance
Kind Regards
Filips Houbrechts

Hi IEEE488,
Thanks for the link. In the meantime My PC is re-installed about a month ago and all my software is in place already. All of the mentioned drivers are already installed but maybe not in the right order.
What do you suggest in this case?
Thanks in advance
Kind Regards

  • How do I determine if my network adapter is in the kernel?

Hello everyone Great job on this distro.  I am a newbie Anyway quick question on other platforms(Freebsd, etc) my nic card is listed as sis0.  I can't seem to get the OS to recognize the nic card.  Doing a dmesg shows that the board is a SIS 730 chipset.  Any suggestions on how to get this to work?  I have a W2k dhcp server and a router with IP address 192.168.x.x that Arch picks up no problem as the default gateway.  Just a little confused...Mark

    Hi Mark,
Here is some info I hope you find useful.
    1.  SIS5513:IDE Controller at...SIS5513:not 100% native mode:will probe irqs later.
This is not your ethernet card chipset.  This refers to your northbridge/southbridge chipsets.  These are simply two chips that the CPU talks through to perform many functions.  The CPU uses IDE via the southbridge chip, in your case the SIS5513.  You can safely ignore this message.  I'm not familiar with the sis900 module, but is it for a PCI ethernet card?  If so, you can confirm that this is the proper module by:
    [root@limbo linux]# cat /proc/pci | grep -i eth
Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 67)
As you can see, in my case, I have a PCI ethernet card that uses the via-rhine module.
    2.  Have you properly edited the "eth0 = " section in /etc/rc.conf?  You have to set it up properly.  How to you connect to the internet?  I can't really make suggestions about how to edit rc.conf unless you provide info on how you connect to the internet.
    3.  Assuming you have /etc/rc.conf properly configured, after you "modprobe sis900" you have only enabled the module for your card.  You still have to start your network connection.  What is the output of the following command?
    [root@limbo linux]# /etc/rc.d/network start
    4.  If (3) starts the network fine, then add network to the list of services you want started at boot in /etc/rc.conf
I hope you find this info helpful.  I know how frustrating it is when things aren't working (all too well ), but hang in there, you'll get it.

  • How to disable/uncheck IPv6 in network adapter properties

    Hi,
I need to programmtically disable/uncheck IPv6 during all Windows 7 deployments. Does anyone know where to find this in the registry or is there a Microsoft utility you can can use to achieve this?
This is what I'm talking about:
    Open Network and Sharing Center
Click Change adapter settings in the upper left
    Right click Local Area Connection
    Choose Properties
On the networking tab, look for Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)
I need to uncheck the checkbox on that line item
Thanks a lot for your help!
      Rob

Microsoft has a command line program nvspbind (http://archive.msdn.microsoft.com/nvspbind), that can disable ipv6 on a specific interface. It seems to be identical to unchecking the
IPv6 box in adapter settings dialog. You can launch this program from a script or your program.
The command line arguments to disable IPv6 on a particular interface is:
    nvspbind -d {GUID} ms_tcpip6

  • Trouble compiling Atheros AR8151 driver.

Hello, I just bought a new netbook and decided to give Arch a try. Figured less time for install than Gentoo.
Anyway, I discovered that the Atheros AR8151 network card is not currently support, though it may be in certain 2.6.35 kernels, but i have no way to install that yet.
So I got the source from Atheros' web site for their driver, put it in a new directory, untarred it, and typed make install. It says back:
*** Linux kernel source not configured - missing autoconf.h. Stop.
    How to fix ?

I've ported the driver from Atheros to support kernels 2.6.34 and 2.6.35. The driver compiles on my installation but I don't know if it actually works. Modified driver source is here: http://filebin.ca/hbcrtz/ar81xx-1.0.1.9a.tar.gz. To compile it, you'll need to install the kernel26-headers package.
    Good luck

  • Virtual Network Adapter (vEthernet) unauthenticated

    Hi,
I have a problem, with configuring a Virtual Network Adapter on SC VMM.
I created a logical switch with two physical network adapter (team) and add a virtual network adapter to the logical switch. After that a virtual network adapter will be created on the hyper-v host, but with the status "domain.local (unauthenticated).
With another hyper-v host it work without problems.
I tried to remove and recreate all that stuff but without success.
Do someone know that problem? Or can help to find a solution?
    Thank you for the help.

  • NVIDIA Network Adapter problem (MSI K8N Neo4-F)

We have an MSI K8N Neo4- F motherboard.  We are running Windowx XP SP2 (just upgraded to Service Pack 2).  The computer will only boot in Normal mode if we disable or remove the NVIDIA Network Adapter driver.  If we attempt to boot in Normal mode, it always ends with a Bad Pool Header problem (Blue Screen of Death).  If we boot in Safe Mode with Networking, we can access the Internet.  If we disable or remove the driver, then  boot in normal mode, we can run in Normal mode but we do not have internet connection.
Does anyone know how we can use the onboard Network Adapter, and still boot in normal mode?
We have been using the latest drivers from MSI for this motherboard.  Is there a different version that can be used?  Is it possible that we have to update our BIOS for it to work correctly with SP2?
    Thanks!

I think I may have misunderstood what you meant by a clean install.  I probably should have asked what you meant before I answered my last post.
If you mean "did we just build the system by wiping the hard drive, installing  XP SP1, then apply SP2", the answer is no.  The system has been running Windows XP SP1 for several years without any problems, and we just wanted to upgrade to SP2 because there is some software that we want to load that requires SP2 to run.  We have lots of software loaded on this machine that we use every day that we really want to avoid (short of time right now to tackle that project) rebuilding the entire operating system/machine because of the work involved in reloading all the software, etc.
Am I correct in assuming that we would have to wipe out the hard drive and start over if we did a re-install from a slipstreamed SP2 cd?  If so, then we will probably just stay with SP1 for the time being if there is no other option to fix this Nvidia driver problem until we have more time to do a complete re-install and reload of the computer.
What about just installing a NIC in one of the PCI slots and use that instead of the onboard NetWork Adapter?
    Thanks for all your help.

  • Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter - With any driver: "The device instance name is invalid"

    Hello there,
I was trying to install various "Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter" drivers, with versions ranging from 2007 to 2010, both from the manufacturer and specifically for this computer (a Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile) and others from here:
    http://www.atheros.cz/atheros-wireless-download.php?chipset=22&system=3
All of them are for Windows Vista 32bit.
The computer had previous drivers installed and working, but also had a network problem. In the process of figuring out what was causing it, I tried to install newer drivers to see if that was the problem. It turns out the network problem was due to a different
thing that is now fixed (some dependencies of the WLAN Configuration service were turned off), but I'm still stuck installing the new drivers.
    TL;DR:
However, every time I install new drivers, after install, Windows says that
"The device instance name is invalid", regardless of what drivers I install. I even tried to install drivers for different hardware in that slot just to see what it told me and IT STILL gave me the same error. I also tried to uninstall the
current driver, checking the box to delete the driver's software, running CCleaner and then deleting
"athr.sys" from the Windows/Drivers folder and
"oem8.inf" from Windows/Inf as those files were referenced in the driver's properties. The install still gives me the same error.
The fact that it gives me this error with any driver leads me to believe it's Windows' fault and not the driver's.
Note: I am translating from the original in Portuguese. "The device instance name is invalid" is the closest/correct translation and seems about right with the info I find online regarding the english version of Vista and how it refers to devices.
This (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/microsoft.public.development.device.drivers/yFa_XnlcLJQ) and this (http://finderr.net/windows/pt-PT/O-nome-da-inst%C3%A2ncia-do-dispositivo-%C3%A9-inv%C3%A1lido-/2082573452) also seems to confirm that, though it
doesn't help me. It may be that the text is actually different in english Vista but I also searched for driver instead of device or stuff like "The device instance name appears to be invalid" and can't find anything either.
I also did SFC /SCANNOW a while ago and it found no errors.  I then repeated it again after this problem and this time, SFC found errors BUT it couldn't repair all of them. Here is the CBS log:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/bayum2rsezxpmre/CBS.log
    Thank you for the help!
EDIT: The Notebook model is a Fujitsu-Siemens ESPRIMO Mobile V5535 and their support drivers can be found here (after specifying the OS and model):
    http://support.ts.fujitsu.com/download/ShowFiles.asp
    EDIT2:
The last SFC /scannow scan repaired everything left to repair. The system restore option can't be used because the earliest one still has the (suposedly faulty) drivers installed.
This computer has a Win Vista serial number, but no CD and the second partition doesn't have any kind of backup. The second partition is empty though. So, as a last resort, if I really don't have a choice, I'll try to do an upgrade install to see if that fixes
it and if that still doesn't fix it I'll have to move everything in the users folder to the second partition and format the first which is a bummer :/
EDIT: Here is the setup.api.log that was inside C:\Windows\Inf and details the instalation process of all the drivers:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/tyxs1e4r7rxofch/setupapi.dev.log
I'm still trying to read into that setup.api.log file.

So, can I assume that the only way to fix this error is to download an iso of Windows Vista, unninstall my service packs, upgrade install Vista, run Vistalizator to change the language to Portuguese and then install Service Pack 1 & 2?
EDIT: Alright, so I formatted the thing since the driver bug wouldn't give me a break. The details on that can be found searching for the same thread title either on tomshardware or vistaforums if anyone happens to find this looking for the same error.
I have a real knack for bumping heads with errors that nobody else gets that somehow turn into unfixable bugs. At least if someone else searches for this problem they'll know what to do.

  • How to change LACPDU timer setting on Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver

We’re installing our first Windows 2012 R2 server, and one of the network settings is different from what’s on a comparable Windows 2008 R2 server, and it's not what our network group would like to see connected to their switches.  Both servers have
2 NICs teamed using the LACP protocol and are connected to 2 different switches for high availability.  In both cases I just teamed the NICs with whatever driver was on the server.
On the 2008 R2 server (the one our network group likes), it’s an Intel driver, “Intel(R) Advanced Network Services Virtual Adapter”.  On the 2012 R2 server it’s a Microsoft driver, “Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver”.  The setting that
our network group is concerned about is the LACPDU timer setting.  Apparently it can be either “fast” or “slow”.  What they see on the switches is that on the 2008 Intel driver NICs the setting is “slow” and on the 2012 Microsoft driver NICs the
setting is “fast”.  The switches are expecting “slow”.
I spent some time searching on Microsoft.com and other places, as well as poking around on the server, but I couldn’t find that setting or how to change it on the Microsoft Network Adapter Multiplexor Driver.  Does anyone know how I can change it?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
According to my knowledge, we can’t change the value of LACP timer.
    Here is a related question,
How to change LACP timer-value on Windows server 2012 Network Teaming, from short to long?

    Hi,
It's been done automatically. Go to the nVidia Control Panel and have a look at the settings. You can set each application or program to run on a different graphics card but it's been set to auto as default. Auto means that the default card is the shared Intel HD X000 for a common usage but when you start playing games or run a video editing program it will automatically swich the graphics to nVidia. The Intel shared graphics has more than 64MB of RAM. It uses the main laptop RAM so in case that you have got 8GB of RAM the Intel HD graphics could take up to 1.5GB of RAM from it. Means that the laptop reserves up to 1.5GB of RAM for the Intel card and the rest can be used by the system.

  • How to install network adapter driver?

My Dell xps internet was working fine yesterday (wired connection) but then all of a sudden the internet stopped working even though the cat6 was plugged in to the router. I tried different cables to see if the cable was faulty but it turns out that my network adapter is missing a driver. I checked what network adapters are inside my motherboard but its come up with like 12 different network adapters. How do I know which one i should install the driver for? Also where can i find the correct driver to install?
I should also note i set my pc back to a date which it was in 4 years ago since it was really slow and i wanted to improve its performance.
I searched all over the web to find solution to my problem but none of the solutions at hand worked. 1 solution was to change the properties on my "Local Area Connection" but i haven't even got "Local Area Connection" icon for some reason (i have never seen a computer not have this icon before". It is like my computer is completely not picking up the connection from the router and even worse its as if its repelling it...
Anyways, signed up to this forum to see if one of you guys could help out :).

Sorted it now. Had to go into BIOS and enable internet connection.
