Do you know the best way to set markers when using multi cam clips? Is it better to set the marker to one of the clips before creating the multi cam clip, or set them to the actual multi cam clip?

How to sync audio with photos

I have 100s of photos in a slide show and need to sync them with the music. Looking online, all I saw for fcpx is to lay down a Generator and manually cut it to the beat of the selected music. Then Replace the photos into the segments. This is toooo hard. There has to be a better way or a plugin.

You can do this in Aperture. It has an automatic align slides to beats command and you can also do it manually as the slideshow plays. Just click the stopwatch icon and as the slideshow plays hit the spacebar when you want the slide to change.
I don't know a way to do it this easy in FCP X.

I am trying to sync a recorded conversation with keynote slides showing the conversation for the viewer to read along. How do I sync the two so the slides move in unison with the audio conversation?

the easiest way would be to export the conversation to iTunes, so that it will be available in the Media Browser.
In Keynote open the Inspector window and in the document tab (the leftmost tab) click "Audio".
From the Media Browser select your background audio and drop it into the Soundtrack well.
Set it to play once.
Now in Keynote go to the "Play"-menu and select "Record Slideshow"
Listen to your Soundtrack and advance the slides at the right moment. Your action will be recorded.
Then save your slideshow. Whenever you play it again the slides will be shown automatically as you recorded.

How to sync ical with multiple apple devices and android?

Does anybody have use an android phone in addition to apple devices, and have you figured out how to sync ical with all? (I know there are other calendars that can be used by all, but it means a lot to my husband to stay with ical.)

I tried Yahoo in the past but had trouble with duplicate entries. However, this was a while ago before Yahoo updated their site and this was with syncing to a Windows computer with Outlook in addition to a Mac so my results might not be typical. Yahoo's worth a shot, but my experience with Yahoo is why I use Google Calendar.
Beyond that, I don't know of any other "free" services. There are many other hosted calendar sites that could work, but you'd pay something like $5-$20 per month, which is comparable to MobileMe.

I have found the root cause for the crash of Nokia Suite 3.2.100 while synchronizing N9 calendar with Outlook
Basically Outlook synchronization with N9 is working for contacts, gallery, messages, notes.
I had the situation that calendar synchronization ended in crash of the Nokia Suite. The root cause was that after first synchronization some time ago a new calendar PC-SYNC was created on the N9. Due to whatever reason this calendar caused a conflict during the synchronization and the Nokia Suite crashed.
I have deleted this calendar on the N9 and tried to synchronize the Original N9 calendar again..... and it worked.... Now again there is a new PC-SYNC available on the N9 but it doesn't cause problems anymore... Synced N9 calendar with Outlook several times and the crash didn't reoccur....
Looks like the issue is solved now :-)

Error trying to sync audio with midi

I get this "Error trying to sync audio with midi" using my motu 828mk2 firewire sound card.
I have updated my osx to 10.5.2 and now i cant use my motu ... osx 10.5.2 has a firewire issue with the motu 828mk2 if any one else has the same problem with any make of audio devices please let me know, i cant seem to find a solution unless i go back to my old osx or buy another sound module, but i should not have to result in doing something like that when i have spent a **** lot of cash buying this in the first place, isnt motu and apple both big players in pro audio? why is it so un compatable, is it just me with this issue or is their a major blunder with apple or motu, it only seems to happen with osx 10.5.2 and nothing else with the same machine with diffrent installls, so apple get on to it and fix it as im sure its the new osx firewire kexts or something, its not motu as it works fine with everything else and the same machine with all os systems.....except osx 10.5.2.

Well, I thought this was fixed by changing the buffer size but it isn't. Still get the "Error trying to sync Audio with MIDI" error. Logic is detecting 44.1 kHz, I have Logic set for 96 kHz. The FireWire is set for 96 kHz, internal sync. Logic preferences are set for sync -> internal. Audio sync is set for "external or free" (I am not using a MTC source). I have downloaded and installed v1.8.4 from M-audio. I changed the IO buffer from 256 to 512.
I can't figure out what the magic is here. When I boot Logic, it syncs fine until I click on the "help" menu, the loses sync. Occasionally it comes back for no apparent reason. The system has no problem recognizing the 410 or bringing up the management interface.
Any sage words of advice?

How to sync audio tracks with RED footage that has no reference audio?

So I shot a short film for my thesis project and the damn crew didn't record reference audio. We shot on a RED camera and had a sound guy with a shotgun mic. So we have crystal clear audio tracks from a separate sound card and tons of RED footage with abosolutely no sound.
Lucky we did use a slate, so I know I have to go one by one and manually sync all the audio with the right video tracks. Though I am unsure how exactly to do it. Once synced, will I have to edit from the timeline? How can I reimport the synced footage into a new project so I can edit from my media bin?

I have an iPhone 4 which is synced with a non apple laptop and wish to sync it with my new iMac. I have backed the phone up with the laptop and am not sure how to sync it with the iMac without loosing any contacts, emails or photos from my phone.

Impossible to Sync Audio with Lips

I understand that sound is measured in time and graphics in
frames, but the sound shouldn't start from the beginning when the
cursor is halfway into it. There must be a way around it.
I'm animating frame by frame with no vectors. I put a .wav
file in one of the sound channels and stretch it across the entire
animation (few thousand frames) for a scene. Then, no matter where
I am in the animation, when I press play the sound starts from the
beginning.
There is no way in hell I'll be able to sync lips with
dialogue by playing the entire scene from the beginning every time
just to see the sound synced with audio. I want to be able to play
the same fraction of a second (several frames) while animating and
KNOW WHERE IN THE SOUND I'M AT. I would have thought this expensive
program would at least display the spectrogram or something, much
less not play the audio from the beginning when I'm in the middle
of the sound sprite. I've prerecorded the entire sound score in one
Audacity file and exported it as a .wav to Director. I don't want
to use any other sound channels or ques, etc.

Since everyone's been kind enough to stick with me I'll try
to explain what I'm doing, but its a bit of a ramble.
I'm combining techniques of traditional animation with cutout
animation. I've created simple character designs on paper. I then
draw and color body parts on paper and create photoshop files of
each body part. Using the wand selection tool I relatively quickly
cut the drawing and make it a sort of "digital cutout" by creating
a photoshop the drawing I cut over a blank background layer. For
example if I want, say, a head to turn, I organized several of
these photoshop files (each a tween of the head turning) into a
folder and labeled the folder as a sequence for that particular
action (HEAD_TURN_LEFT). With this method I've created walk cycles,
heads squashing/stretching/turning/shaking, etc.
I asked a buddy of mine who was in charge of a computer
animation department at a local university, "Say I want a piece of
software that will act more as a cut-out studio than a vector
animation program. I want to be able to switch the body out every
time it turns or switch out several arms frame by frame for when I
want the character to raise its hand (instead of rotating a single
arm upward each frame). This is my nightmare hybrid of cutout / cel
techniques."
Basically he replied that I should look into director so I
decided to take my work over to someone who owns the program. No I
haven't made the mistake of blowing money on Director yet because
I'm only working with a test scene. I'm
in the process of testing director for my needs.
I was ecstatic to find that the sprite/cast member structure
of director truly seemed to suit my needs perfectly and, yes, too
perfectly. I rendered several .avi files and found that the final
product was what I was going for, which is a sort of early Mike
Judge look.
I decided that I could animate each shot of my scene as a
separate file in Director and edit them together with an editing
program. I chose to import a background and three characters to the
program and then add sound, preparing to animate to the sound. This
is where I finally ran into trouble and realized that I was
foolish....
I created the sound file in Audacity by mixing some 16 or 17
tracks into a stereo .wav file that I intended to import into
Director into one of the sound channels. When I imported the sound
it quickly became clear that this program not only won't bring in
the spectrogram, but also how the program merely knows to cue
sounds at specific frames but has nothing to do with synching an
entire single file.
I am now clear about the fact that the program is more
oriented for playing small amounts of footage, not scenes. That
would be fine because each file is just a short shot, but I'm not
intending to put sound to animation. Rather, I'm intending to put
animation to sound. The most tedious task will be lip sync, else
there'd be a way around it. So I've dead-ended. I mean, isn't there
at least a way to divide the sound into MANY single frame sprites?
THAT would solve everything.
Whew. Let me know if that makes any sense at all, and if not
I understand. The main point here is that even if I should have to
choose another piece of software, its going to need to use the same
sprite/member concept. Editing software won't solve the problem and
especially not after effects. One program is good for one thing,
and another is good for another, so if I could just put an end to
the issue by managing to stick with Director or a program very much
like it, that would be preferable. Thank you for falling victim to
this blabber.

Sync audio with animation

Hi -
I'm not sure I can accomplish this with Flash (8 - AS2) so I
thought I'd run it by some experts first.
I have to re-build a 5 minute narrated animation. The
original version is an 800x600 After Effects project, exported as
MOV, then converted into FLV. The file size was so big that I
eventually broke the MOV into 5 "chapters" and made 5 FLVs. The
audio narration was a layer in the AE project and tightly sync'd
with the animation. This worked great except that the
conversion/compression to FLV yielded either very large files or
really crappy looking files. So this time I thought I would make
the animation in Flash, and not use FLVs at all, but I'm in the
dark about how to sync the audio (did I mention it had to match the
animation closely?). In addition to that, the user still must have
Play/Pause/Rewind control that FLVs can provide.
What's the best way to do this? Should I embed the audio into
its own FLA layer or is there a way to lock in a separate AIFF (or
whatever kind of audio format) ? Or maybe this is not the way to go
at all?
I'd appreciate some expert direction - or warning - before I
tread too far down the wrong path.

If you really need tight synchronization between the visual
and the audio then the best course of action is to use a medium
designed for that. If you decide to use digital video, then you
have a very large range of codecs to use. You should be able to
find one that provides a good looking visual and a reasonable file
size.
If you must use Flash, then the flv file format is the best
option. You have a very limited set of codecs. You could use
something like Sorenson's Squeeze to do the compression to get
better results than with Flash's built in video tool.
Trying to build your own solution in Flash can be very time
consuming, frustrating and, probably, less than perfect.
