How to sync contacts, music, and movies from iPhone to new mac and unsync from old PC?

Hi, I know this question has been asked a lot but for some reason I could not get a clear understanding of what everyone was talking about and my situation might be a tad different.
So I already had an iPhone that was synced to my dell PC. I just got a new macbook pro retina and now I'm trying to transfer my contacts, movies, and music to my mac from my iPhone. However I keep getting a message that says if I sync to this mac then all of my stuff will be deleted from my iPhone. (I am now aware that they mean only iTunes content, but those are still important to me). I still own my PC but there is no way I can connect my PC and Mac together. Is there a way possible that I could "unsync" my iPhone to my PC and sync it to the Mac without erasing the stuff from my iPhone? Are there other methods of syncing my iPhone to my new mac? My last question is that is it possible to transfer purchases from my mac to my iPhone even if it is or isn't synced to the PC or erased of content?
Hopefully this sounds coherent, and thank you all in advance for your help. I'm new to all of this and I really appreciate your time.

It is designed so syncing is one way only (with the exception of iTunes Store purchases) computer to phone.  You need to transfer the library from the old computer to the new one so the phone is syncing back to the same library it used to or else it will request you erase the phone.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its sub-folders and files) intact to the other drive.  Hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) and open iTunes.  At the prompt to create or choose a library choose the copied iTunes folder.
You can use  flash drive for copying, breaking it down into chunks if necessary but making sure they get re-assembled correctly again.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

Is it safe to sync my iphone with the mac, i want to place my contacts from my Iphone to the mac.
    How can i do this?

Of course it is safe, it's what you are supposed to do. The only time you might have an issue is if you have already synced to a different computer. As long as there is at least one contact already on your Mac, when you first sync you will be given the option to merge the contacts.

  • Transfer songs from iphone to new mac (my hard-drive failed and has been replaced), some songs i have bought on itunes and others were old copies, any ideas?

    hi
i have recently had my mac hard-drive replaced and consequently have lost all my old stuff - had to download a new itunes for example. i synced everything onto my iphone before it broke luckily. some songs i purchased on itunes, others i downloaded ages ago from CDs. how do i transfer these onto my itunes library again so i can sync?

iTunes can transfer your purchases or you can download them again.  Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
For songs ripped from CDs, you need to use a 3rd-party utility.  Here are two that will help you.

  • Syncing music from iphone to new mac

Currently all my music is stored on my iphone.  I have an itunes account but the library is on an old computer that is not in use anymore.  Through the years, Ive downloaded music right from my phone and ipad.  I have icloud and they sync between both devices.  Im thinking about buying a macbook and have a questions?  If I buy the laptop and sign into itunes, will all my musuc on my iphone and ipad sync esentially creating a new library?  I realize there will be nothing on the new computer but want all my music that is on my phone to start the "new library" (if that makes sense).  Currently neither of my devices sync to an actual computer and thinking with the new laptop, this will help.  Thoughts?

  • Music and movie discs keep spinning in Mac and then freeze up my computer

This just started happening recently but I've tried to import several new CDs I bought into iTunes and the disc sounds like it starts spinning, then stops, then starts again, over and over and never actually doesn anything. Then I just freezes my computer and I can't even shut it down. This has happened with playing DVDs too, so I'm wondering if my player is shot and I need to get it repaired.

  • How can i restore my entire iTunes library onto my new mac book pro from a previous time machine backup?

after using the migration assistant, it appears that only my iTunes purchases loaded into my library on the new MCB, not allllll the other mp3's i've loaded in from other sources, although they are sitting in the back.up folders on my external drive. those mp3's have to be opened manually to get them back into iTunes. there has to be a more effiecient way to load these tunes right?????

I have downloaded firefox for my MAC OS X Lion, just purchased in December, and have done so several times but when I try to install it per the directions, nothing happens. The file that shows up says Alias in my applications and your instructions to Eject Firefox from the menu are not clear to me. Firefox does show up in the "Window" box but that's the only place it says firefox. Whenever I click on the folder, it seems to be emily. This installation process just doesn't seem to be working or either I'm not understanding it.

You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:

Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from

After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

My itunes is on an old computer.  So old that I can't update it and so Haven't used it in two years.  How can I move it to my new laptop and make sure this doesn't happen again?  Very frustrated that I've spend $$ but can't get my music.
I want so set up itunes on my laptop and make sure that I get all of my old music and any music shared from my sons' itunes accounts.  Do I have to set up itunes on my new laptop first and then use the same logins?  Really concerned about losing any music, etc.

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

I have a new mac and want to sync my phone to the iTunes on it, but it won't let me manually manage without deleting all music on the phone already from another iTunes. is there a way around this?

    The best solution:
iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.
An alternative which is really not what you should have to do, or the way it is intended to be done, if you properly manage your computer and backups:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
Sync transfer is one way, computer to device, matching the device content to the content on the computer (except purchased content as mentioned above).  For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will probably have to use third party commercial software unless you have an older model iPod. Do not regard your i-device as a reliable unique storage for your media. It is not a backup device and everything is structured around you maintaining your media on a computer which is itself backed up.

  • How do i move music from iphone to pc - not all downloaded from itunes store?

how do i move music from iphone to pc - not all downloaded from itunes store?

iTunes includes an option to transfer content that was purchased from the iTunes Store from an iPod or iPhone, but this is for content that was purchased from the iTunes Store only.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.
This is one of the reasons why maintaining a backup of all your important data (including your iTunes library) stored on an external drive used for backup purposes only, or on other media such as CD or DVD is so important.
