How to sync contacts to 2nd gen iPod touch?

I have a 2nd gen iPod Touch, and have just moved from MobileMe to iCloud on all of my other devices which are supported.  On the iPod Touch I now should be able to sync contacts and calendars only via iTunes, since it will not work with iCloud.  All is well with calendar syncing.  However, even though I have the appropriate boxes checked in iTunes to sync contacts, I get "no contacts" on the Touch.  What might I be doing wrong?  Thanks!

Thanks, I had seen that support article.  It states that although the Touch will not sync with iCloud, both calendar and contact data will continue to reside locally on the device.  In my case this is true, and can sync locally with iTunes, for iCal, but not for contacts.

  • How do you use the 2nd gen ipod touch as a hard drive?

I restored it and renamed it because my sister gave it to me, and now I restored it to use it as my own, and it works fine and all, occasionally saying it can't sync some applications and movies because it can't find the file or something, and I've tried removing all my music (which is like, 5.5 GB total) and it still has those same errors. The other thing I have a problem with, as the subject implies, how do I use it as a hard drive? I've seen the tutorials on apple, but I don't see the "enable disk use" on itunes in the XXXXX's ipod summary tab.

The iPod touch doesn't have the "enable disk use" option of other iPods.
A program called AirSharing will let you mount the iPod touch as a wireless drive

  • 2nd gen ipod touch doesn't wake up regularly to receive email

How can I get my 2nd gen iPod Touch (using ios 4.2.1 Build Version 8C148) to 'wake up' regularly to receive email (from my gmail account)? When the screen blanks (locks) while the wi-fi is on, it appears to also turn off wi-fi (I assume to conserve battery charge) until I unlock the screen, & therefore doesn't check for email every so often - I have to unlock screen & check manually. I want to know if there are iPod settings (I feel I looked over all possibilities, but could have missed something) or an app that can enable my iPod Touch to check for email every 10 minutes (while the screen is locked & there's enough charge in the battery) & if I receive one or more emails, generate the audio notification. [I tried several search phrasings on this support site & saw nothing similar to my request for assistance]
    Thanks.

The only setting is to have Push turned on in the Settings>Mail. However, your problem may be related to Google stopping Push for Gmail

    - iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
    - Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

  • HT4623 i think i got the 1st or 2nd gen ipod touch how do you update it??

i think i got the 1st or 2nd gen ipod touch how do i update it?

    To update
Connect the iPod to your computer and update via iTunes
iTunes 10 for Windows: Update and restore software on iPod, iPhone, or iPad
A 1G iPod can go to iOS 3.1.3
A 2G to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. That requires a Mac with OSX 10.5.8 or later. With 1OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1

  • Movies converted for AppleTV won't sync to 2nd gen iPod touch with iTunes 8

I have about 40 movies that I converted to "Apple TV" format with Quicktime Pro. They all play fine on my Apple TV. But only one of them will sync with my new 2nd gen iPod touch... and that one was converted by someone else for me to Apple TV with iSquint!
iTunes tells me the remaining videos cannot be played on this iPod. ***? They play in iTunes, they play on the Apple TV... what's the difference with the iPod?
So now I'm having to completely reconvert all my movies to iPod format with the function in iTunes 8 "Create iPod or iPhone version" but this is PAINFULLY SLOW!!! One video on my brand new 3.06Ghz iMac Intel Core 2 Duo took FOUR HOURS
Anyone else having this problem? Anyone else find a faster way to fix it???

    It just does.
You can do it quicker using other tools.
For instance I have a hardware device called Turbo.264 which shifts the conversion off the computer and is much quicker.

  • No more podcasting on 2nd gen iPod touch?

On my 2nd gen iPod touch, Podcasts no longer show up in Music app. However, since it only runs ios 4.2.1, the podcast app is not available. The podcasts do sync from iTunes and are on my iPod since they are showing up through search. But when selected, the Music app opens but does not show or play the podcast. Any help or solutions?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all podcasts and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
