I'm trying to sync my ipad mini to macbook pro retina but it says that the ipad cannot be used because it requires itunes version 11.1 or later, how can i know ipad mini version and how to update to latest version?

First upgrade your OS to 10.8.5, then upgrade the version of iTunes on your syncing computer to 11.1.3

I have recently installed the latest version of GarageBand on my recently purchased MacBook Pro 13" Retina. After discovering two GarageBand icons in the Launchpad, I removed the older version, only to discover that the app was also automatically erased from the drive instead of being moved to Trash. I now need the older GarageBand 6.0.5 as the newer version 10.0.1 lacks certain essential features that the older one had. However, due to the lack of a restore from Trash option (due to the unexpected automatic erase once removed from Launchpad) as well as a complete lack of installation DVDs in the newer MacBook Pros, how do I reinstall GarageBand 6.0.5?

That is what deleting from the Launchpad is supposed to do - removing the icon and uninstalling the app. It follows the model of the IOS home screen, where you can browse and remove apps installed on the iPad or iPhone.
if you want to clean up your launchpad without uninstalling applications, create a folder in the launchpad by dragging the icons on top of each other. I have one folder apps that I have never used, but do not want to delete.

Have you a Time Machine backup of your system, that goes back in time before the time you deleted GarageBand '11? I have seen some posts of forum members, who downgraded the system back to MacOS 10.8.5, but even that did not make GB 6.0.5 appear at the AppStore again.

Where is the mini displayport on the latest 15" macbook pro retina?

I'm contemplating replacing my first generation Mac Pro with the latest MacBook Pro (fully tricked out 15" w/retina). I want to continue using my Eizo CE24W monitor. I keep seeing references to a mini displayport and adapters, but in photos of the MacBook Pro there is no mini displayport. I'm missing something basic here, what is it?

Impossible to say. A transfer takes as long as it takes. And since you are giving us no concrete information to go on, all we can do is make guesses. For instance, you list a PB G4 platform and OS X v 10.6.3. Should I assume you are performing the transfer on an old 400 MHz PB or a newer Intel Duo PBP 2.67 GHZ platform. Are you using an old 1.1 USB connection or USB 2.0? is this a direct download from iTunes via a wireless connection and if so is it running in "a", "b" or "n" mode? Should I assume that Time Machine is making hourly backups and is interferring with normal transfer operations or not? How may other processes and/or applications should be assumed to be in operation. Should we assume the rental is in an SD or HD format?
Basically, you hardware/software combination may or may not be performing normally. But it is impossible to say whithout knowing more about what (in terms of data size) is being moved and how you are moving it.

How do I install windows 7 drivers correctly on my macbook pro retina?

I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) twice now, and each time I get on, none of the bootcamp drivers seem to be installed correctly. This means I can't access the internet because a network adapter isn't present, and I can't play games because the NVIDIA drivers aren't there. I've seen other people have had this problem in the past, but their fix was to download bootcamp 3.x from Apple's download site, but obviously that doesn't work now as the version is newer.
Does anyone know how to correctly install Windows so this doesn't happen, or how to get the drivers installed correctly?

For 2 reasons, and they are about the hardware.
1) Apple/Mac and BC restrict the way you use the computer. Maybe not for you but for me. It does not allow you to create any other parttitions for Windows to use. You can't even re-partition the BC partition into 2 drives. That will HOSE the Windows system and maybe the OS X part.
2) Apple/Mac does not allow the use of all the hardware. You can not use both graphic cards. switch between them. Windows Must use the descrete graphics adapter which cause the system to run hotter. This is a limitation imposed by Apple as with Reall Windows PCs that have both the Interl embedded and add-on descrete graphics you can switch between them.
Actually BC 4 has been out since Lion shipped on new Mac's. BC 4 also restricted the installation of Windows to just Win 7, no more XP. Which was what you could do with Snow Leopard and BC 3

I believe that Adobe has recently released upgrades to Lightroom and CS6 that make them compatible with the retina screen. First of all, is this correct and secondly, if I have Lr3 and CS5, how do I upgrade? I know it's a dumb question.

How can I adjust the contrast of video on my MacBook Pro Retina so they don't look like they were filmed with an old sock over the lens?

I'd like to watch movies and TV shows, downloaded from iTunes or Amazon, on my MacBook Pro Retina, but they all look like they were filmed with an old sock over the lens. Daytime sequences look muddy, and night time sequences are incomprehensible with anything but the brightest objects rendered as black. I can watch the same files on my old MacBook Air and everything looks right, but no manner of tweaking seems to let me watch movies on my new machine.
I've tried adjusting the gamma. It's a bit better when gammas is set to 1.0, but I can't seem to set a gamma less than one. I tried using the Accessibility Contrast control, but it just lowers the contrast, swallowing my desktop into the dark abyss. I tried Applecare, but they don't have a clue. I tried the Apple Store. The "genius" confirmed that it is indeed impossible to watch movies shot anywhere but in the brightest sunlight on a MacBook Pro Retina, and it isn't just my machine, but every similar model in the store. He arranged for someone who really understands color profiles to give me a call, but Apple seems to have dropped the ball on this.
Is there some tool for stretching out the darker grays in Apple video? I don't want calibration. My impression is that my display, like the dozens I checked at the Apple Store are calibrated to make all dimmer grays appear completely black. I want uncalibration so I can actually see what is going on in the movies even if something is in a light shadow or shot at night. Hollywood has lots of trained technicians who can light and shoot night scenes that are quite comprehensible. I've watched a number of such scenes on my old MacBook Air. Now, I'd like to enjoy their artistry on my MacBook Pro Retina.

I recently bought a 13 inch MacBook Pro Retina. Turned on airdrop to link with my iPad Mini (1st version) running iOS 7.0.4. They do not recognize each other. Why does NOT all Apple devices work seamlessly with one another???!!! I have an iPhone 4 that cannot Airdrop with my iPad Mini, and now I have a MacBook Pro Retina that does not Airdrop with any of my Apple devices! That is SO frustrating! The reason I want to do this is that I use an old phone and, after I upgraded to Mavericks, Missing Sync no longer worked with my MacBook Pro Retina - so my address book in my phone is getting out of date. Because my phone is old (it's a Palm Centro), they apparently will not likely update their software for this phone. So I was thinking I could sync my phone with my old MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 if I could regularly get that old address book to mirror contacts in my new MacBook Pro. You said I could open the contacts in the old MacBook by double-clicking the vCard file. But will that action put them into the old address book on the old Mac so that I could then sync the phone to it? I really need to overwrite the address book in the old Mac with the info that I am bringing over from the new MacBook.
I'd be grateful if you could tell me whether what I want to do is doable. This old phone works perfectly well and I don't need a new phone with a data plan that I would pay for but never use.

Connect the iPad to a charger, let it charge for half an hour, then try a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears.
If that does not work, start iTunes on your computer, connect the USB end of the cable, then press and hold the power button on the iPad and connect the other end of the cable. Hold the power button for three seconds, and while continuing to hold it, press and hold the home button. Continue to hold both buttons for ten seconds and then release the power button but continue to hold the home button for another twenty seconds.
When you release the home button, iTunes should now see the iPad and allow you to restore it.
