How to sync iPhone contacts to iPad contacts, having skipped iphone set up

After buying iphone5c I skipped part of set up.  Now I want to make iphone sync to contacts on iPad.
I have backed up iPad to iCloud, and the iPhone too, but can't seem to make them sync, nor find a way back to the initial setup menu to choose the option to connect to iCloud.  I think all other relevant options are turned on.

You can sync contacts using iTunes so that each device you use (iPhone, iPad, or iPod) has the same information.
If your contacts are hosted online (for example, using iCloud or Yahoo!), just set up your contact accounts on each device and computer you use. Then, your contacts are kept up to date everywhere.
Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to your Mac. If iTunes doesn’t open, open iTunes.
Select your device, click the Info (or Contacts) tab, and then select the “Sync contacts” checkbox.
Select whether to sync all contacts or only the groups you select.
Select any other options you want, and then click Apply. Your contacts are updated each time you connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to your Mac.

  • I-Phone; How to sync my contacts from Outlook with my I-Phone???

    Dear all,
I need your help! I do not know how to sync my contacts!
For any support, please contact me: [email protected]
    Thank you so much!
    Best regards
    Dennis

Dennis...The biggest thing you will need is Outlook 2003 or 2007. If you have this, you will have to build an account. Contacts and Calender does not sync with iTunes but with outlook. iTunes is just the conduit. Once you have an account built into Outlook, you will need to plug your iPhone into iTunes and look at the second Tab to insure that you have selected what you want to sync. Hope this helps.
    Good Luck

  • How to Sync iphone 5 contacts/calendar with Outlook 2007

I used to have an iphone 3gs and upgraded to a 5 recently. Since then I can't sync outlook contacts/calendar like I used to.
All I want to do is sync outlook with the iphone so that I have the same data on my Windows7 PC as on the iPhone. I used to just hit sync in itunes and presto it would sync both ways. i.e new phone entries would be copied to outlook and new outlook enteries copied to the iphone.
Now in itunes "info". I  only see an option that sync's to the cloud only. I don't want to sync to the cloud because the old way was better for me.
Besides the cloud doesn't seem to work. The phone information gets uploaded to the cloud but the outlook information doesn't get updated? When I open up the cloud in Win7 using icloud I can see all the contacts on my phone but how do I get them to sync with Outlook and vice versa?
I've read so much information on the subject I'm blue in the face but have not found a solution.
Your help would be appreciated, Thank You.

If you have [accidentally] enabled iCloud sync on your iPhone, note that you first need to turn that off in order to be able to sync again via iTunes instead. iCloud sync and iTunes sync when it comes to contacts and calendars, are cannot be run simultaneously. Settings > iCloud > toggle the switches to OFF
You can alternatively read this for another offline method of syncing iphone contacts to outlook without needing to switch off your iCloud sync in first place.

  • How to sync MobileMe contacts from the iPhone?

    Hello,
Initially, I had the same contacts database on MobileMe and on my iPhone.
Both contacts lists originated from my Mac Address Book.
Syncing was not switched on - I simply forgot about it.
Since then, many additional contacts have been added to the data on my iPhone - that's where I casually enter new contacts during the day, not my computer.
Now I realize, I would need to sync my enlarged contacts data from my iPhone to MobileMe.
Or, back to my Mac Address Book.
When I want to switch on syncing, my iPhone says "Syncing with MobileMe will remove your existing contacts from your iPhone".
    This is not good!
I want it just the other way around: MobileMe should be overwritten with the iPhone data!
Is this syncing a one-way street? It can not be...
Could anybody please help, how I can solve this?
    Thankyou.

When first turning on over the air syncing for contact information on your iPhone, it is in one direction only - from what is available at MobileMe to your iPhone. Afterwards, the sync process is bidirectional.
Sync your iPhone with the Address Book on your Mac via the iTunes sync process. Then sync the Address Book on your Mac with MobileMe. Make sure the Address Book on your Mac has been synced with MobileMe before turning on over the air syncing for contact information with MobileMe on your iPhone. Leave it on and any contact information entered on your iPhone will be synced with MobileMe and vice-versa from then on.

  • How to sync Google Contacts groups to iPhone?

I can sync my contacts both ways between Google Contacts and my iPhone's phone book.
Contacts in Google contact are grouped. When contacts are synced to the phone, grouping information is lost.
How do I preserve grouping information?
Related question: I only want to have a few selected groups in Google to sync with my phone. How do I do that?
why when I sync google contact at itune, the" selected groups" is gray?

Hi - from the"iPhone 6 User Guide for iOS 8.1",I followed the following steps:
Use your Google contacts: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, tap your Google account,
    then turn on Contacts.
So I entered Gmail and password. Then withing Contacts app I pressed the Sync link.  Afterwards I've got all contacts in one big list, just not categorized by Google groups.

  • How to sync iPhone contacts back to Address Book.

I came across this problem and found a work-around on the forums, but some guys there–including myself–felt that iTunes should sync our contacts bi-directionally from iPhone to Address Book on our Macs, and vice versa.
As it turns out, that's really the default behavior in iTunes when syncing between iPhone/Address Book on the Mac. However, if you've been using iCloud to sync everything lateley, this will not be the default behavior, because your iTunes won't sync anything back to your Address Book on the Mac unless you completly disconnect from iCloud services.
So..... if you want to sync your contacts from your iPhone back to your Address Book on your Mac, I'm providing this simple, yet tedious, solution:
Step 1: Open Address Book on your Mac, select all of your contacts, and press delete. You'll be asked if you really want to delete the contacts. Hit ok and     continue.
Step 2: Navigate to: Macintosh HD/Users/(YourUserName)/Library/Application Support/Address Book.
Note* On OS X Lion, your Library folder will not be shown. You'll have to navigate there a different way. The way I did it was:
Click the "Go" option up in the Finder menu bar.
Toward the bottom of the pull-down menu, click on the "Go to Folder..." option.
    Type "~(YourUserName)/Library/Application Support/Address Book.
Once there, I searched through all the folders included and deleted anything that ended in ".plist" or ".log". This way, Address Book is completely reset when next open it.
Step 3: Open Address Book, add at least one contact if none are automatically created for you, and make sure iCloud is Disabled (if an account is there) in your Address Book Preferences pane, which you find by clicking "Address Book" in the top menu bar. Then, quit Address Book.
Step 4: On your iPhone, open your Settings app, go to the iCloud option, and turn all services off. After turning each one off, it will ask you if you want to keep the data on you phone. Always select "Yes", otherwise you may lose your data.
Step 5: Connect your iPhone to your computer, open iTunes, select your iPhone in the left column, select the "Info" tab, and check the box to "Sync Contacts"–further down on the page, in the Advanced section, make sure the Contacts checkbox is unchecked. If it's checked when you sync, iTunes will overwrite the contacts on your phone with the contacts from Address Book on your Mac.
Step 6: Sync your iPhone–This will sync the contacts from your phone to the Address Book app on your Mac.
Step 7: Open up Address Book, and add an iCloud account, or re-enable the one you disabled in step 3–This will sync all of those contacts to your iCloud account again. Then, you can also go back to the iCloud settings on your phone and turn all the services back on.
After all this, you should have been able to first sync your contacts from you iPhone back to your Address Book app on your Mac, then have them both synced up through iCloud with the same contacts being pushed everywhere.
    Hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for all this, unfortunately it's still not helping me. Last week I turned on iCloud for contacts and not only did the iCloud sync fail, but now with iCloud off I haven't been able to sync iphone-to-mac thru iTunes.
I've checked that iCloud contact sync'ing is off, on both my Mac and iPhone. I've even turned off all other iCloud services on both devices. I followed your instructions precisely and even deleted more than you suggested from the App Support | Address Book folder. Step 6 just doesn't work. iTunes whips thru the Address Book sync progress when it should pause a bit to do the transfer—my Address Book archive is 44 Mb.
I have no desire to waste more time with iCloud, just want it to work the old fashioned way.  I'd gladly do a clean system re-install but not sure even that would do it…hard to tell where the problem lies.
Appreciate any light you could shed!

  • How to sync iPhone to iPad

Synching contacts from iPhone to ipad

    first of all
    Hi, dan122334455
we met on this forum around 13 hours ago in an iPad discussion (you seem to fight with everyone)
    i have the perfect solution
    1. sync the contacts of the iPhone to iTunes (the option will be disabled and has to be enabled this option is found under the info tab)
    2. let the contacts sync to ur pc/mac
    3. now connect the iPad enable the sync contacts option (for ipad) in the info tab.
this will sync all ur iPhone contacts to iPad and NOT the other way round (for this to happen after the sync disable the sync contacts option)
    other method
sign in through iCloud on both iPad and iPhone then enable sync contacts on both the devices!

  • Issue with sync'ing Google contact: how to sync only contacts in My Contact

I tried to sync my Google contacts on my PC to iPhone using iTune: Info->Contacts, select Sync contacts with "Google Contacts" from the drop down list.
However, I am only allowed to select "All contacts" as the choice. The "Selected groups" radio button is grayed out and cannot be selected. As such, all the contact info in my Google contact are synced to my iPhone, which include all the "garbage" contact info Gmail has cached, e.g. all the e-mail addresses from whom you have received e-mails from, including junk e-mails. I only want to sync contacts listed in "My Contacts". But looks like this feature (sync only Selected Groups) is not enabled or yet to be implemented? Can somebody confirm this, i.e. feature not enable vs. some config issue on my part?
Does anybody know if there is a way around it?

OK. I have just figured out how you can sync the contacts only in My Contact subgroup using Google sync over the air.
The procedure is described in detail at Google Help:
Google Sync: Set Up Your iPhone or iPod Touch for Google Sync
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252
I followed the steps there and it synced all my contact in My Contacts subgroup within a minutes.
However, I then edit a few contacts in my Google contacts just to see whether it will be synced automatically to my iPhone. So far after about 5 min, it hasn't happened.
So I am wondering how often it gets updated (or pushed) and if there are other settings I can twig this (I do have the setting Fetch New Data set to Push)?

  • How to sync Google contacts for iMessage on OSX

All of my contacts are Google contacts. On my iPhone, I can add my Google account and sync my contacts. So now, my contacts appear as intended (contact, picture, etc).
How can I do the same thing on OSX? I added my @gmail account via System Settings on OSX but there was no option to sync contacts. So on iMessage for OSX, the same contacts that appear as names/pictures on my iPhone are displaying as phone numbers.
    Any ideas?

Google have recently changed their Contacts application to use Dav services, because of that there is a new method.
Google have documentation on their site, this is a recent change.
Here is a link to the directions Google have published.
Here is another, specific to Contacts on Mountain Lion
