How to Sync iTunes?

Presently the songs I have in iTunes are all the same on my MacBook Pro, my MacBook Air and my iPod Touch. If I rip, say, 10 more new albums into my MBP, I can connect the Touch to it and sync the 10 new albums over into the Touch. What is a way to sync the 10 new albums over into the MBA from the MBP? I would like to be able to do this instead of having to again rip the 10 new albums into the MBA using the separate CD burner I purchased for the MBA.
Thanks for any help...SlimJim

iTunes: How to copy purchases between authorized computers
Though it refers to items purchased from the iTunes Store, it applies to all your tracks and videos. And if you happen to also own an iPod:
How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you frequently import tracks on one computer and want all your systems to have identical iTunes libraries, you might want to look into one of the third-party sync utilities such as these:

  • How to sync iTunes libraries on multiple machines without copying music

    Background:
I have 4 machines running iTunes 9, all authorized with the same account. All music is on a networked storage device (NSA). Each iTunes points to the NSA for music files. Each user on each machine has their own local iTunes library for individualized playlists, etc. When music is purchased, regardless of machine, it is automatically downloaded onto the NSA. We have deselected the Advanced preference "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library". Our goal is to have one live copy of our music rather than multiple copies sprinkled about all 4 machines. We do periodic backups of the NSA.
    Question:
How do I get all the iTunes user libraries on all 4 machines to automatically reflect new music purchases? The library of the purchaser is updated just fine, but no one else's is. The Home Sharing Settings option updates the library, but it also copies over the music, defeating the purpose of one copy.
    Thanks in advance!

When I first moved to OS X I decided that all of my/our music should be in one library, with one Apple ID for purchasing/playback and iPod syncing, located someplace other than each user's home folder. Using an alias of the destination folder worked as long as we were all on one machine.
Later when we acquired a second machine the setup was similar, except that the library was on an external HD attached to the newer/faster machine and accessed over our home network. The drawback of this method is that the machine with the library on it has to be up and running (of course).
We've finally moved further into the digital world by purchasing a network drive (NAS to be precise - a My Book World II for those who wish to know), upgraded our router and network switch to GB, and have a third iMac on its way (thank you eBay).
All of our music (the library we started years ago), all of our pictures, and other miscellaneous things reside on the NAS, which is also used for TimeMachine backups (on the non public volume). The idea being that any of us can access any of the media or documents as we need or want to.
Apparently (or I've missed something simple) Apple, in their wisdom, doesn't believe that a setup like ours (and apparently others as well) should exist. That each user and/or each machine, should have their/its very own music library that no one else can have FULL access to.
Home Sharing doesn't allow what I/we've been setting up from the first day we added music to our library. Sure it lets everyone with their own library to listen to other's library's that are up and running (i.e. the machine is on, and iTunes is running).
What we want to do is have all of our machines (the two, soon to be three, iMac's and one PC running XP) access the *same library* with full read/write/burn access AT THE SAME TIME! Hence the logic in purchasing a NAS. What we can't do is have iTunes running on more than ONE machine at a time since the other network users/machines receive this message:
The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file.
Which is certainly not the case since each user/machine can access, read, write, and burn from the above library at will as long as they are the only person doing so.
Changing the permissions on the library file doesn't stick (probably because its on the NAS), otherwise I would have done that and you wouldn't be reading this.
Thanks for any help anyone can give.

  • How to sync iTunes to iPhone

    Hi there,
I'm having trouble syncing my iPhone 3G onto my iTunes.
How do I copy ringtones, music and podcasts which are on my iPhone into iTunes???
I download podcasts directly onto my iPhone so there's always new podcasts on my iPhone which aren't on my iTunes.
Just then I tried to Sync podcasts from my iPhone onto iTunes but all Sync'ing did was delete the podcasts from my iPhone and replace them with the files in iTunes. That's REALLY dumb! It means I have to download everything again.
Can it actually just detect any duplicates and copy any new files into the system which are missing them?
I'm holding back from Syncing my music and ringtones because that will probably delete everything aswell.
    Thanks.

    Hi kckchan,
If you have purchased or downloaded content from the iTunes store on your iphone and wish to move it over to your iTunes then you need to use the Transfer Purchases. The following link should help with this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1848
Content not purchased from the iTunes store (e.g. Music you've put onto the iPhone via iTunes from a music CD) is not able to be taken from the iPhone without the use of 3rd party software.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to sync ITunes tv shows to IPad2?

How do I sync my ITunes puchased TV shows on to my IPad 2?  I just got my IPad 2 a few days ago and I am stumped by this problem. Thank you for any help you can give me.
    Cathy

Connect and select the iPad on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs which allow you to specify which of your content to sync to the iPad. There is some about syncing in the iPad manual which you can download from here : http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad . There is also some info on these pages about syncing music , apps and photos

  • How to sync iTunes with iPad I am not getting any options in iPad except iTunes U and Podcasts

How to synchronize iPad with iTunes with new apple Id .I'm getting no options in
iTunes and App Store and in iTunes as well no options are being seen except ITunes  U and Podcast .

Currently Pakistan only has apps, podcasts, iTunes U and free ibooks, so you won't see music, films and TV shows - if/when they will be available there will depend upon when the content providers allow Apple to sell their content.
For music are there other music purchase download sites that you have access to ? If you do, and they are in a compatible format, then you should be able to add them to your computer's iTunes library via File > Add To Library and you can then sync them to your iPad. You can also copy your own CDs via your computer's iTunes

How do I resolve and if I have to download again in Itunes what about purchases made previously) ? I can load new apps over 3g ok but not through syncing.
    Any ideas ?

No, they don't. I can't find any sync options in this apps.

  • How to sync iTunes playlists on multiple devices

Hi - just a quick one & I am sure that many of you guru's already understand how to do this but.. From time to time, while traveling - etc, I will make playlists on whatever device that I happen to be using & wish that they would show up on my other devices. For instance, last week I created a quick playlist on my iPad and it doesnt show up on my iPhone nor any of the other 4 Apple devices (including computers) that I use frequently. Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks.

I have a friend who uses iTunes Match, and that will automatically sync the playlists between his devices.  One thing to know though is that when you setup iTunes Match on your iOS device for the first time, it will erase what you have on the device and replace it with what is on iTunes Match.  So...you might want to export those playlists first.

I have flip-flopped firmware so many times recently that I have no idea what iTunes has restored. I obviously don't want to set it up as a new phone b/c that would erase everything (right?).
What do I need to do to get iTunes and my phone to sync up again?

  • How to sync iTunes on a new computer without losing current content

I just bought a new Macbook pro with retina display. I have an iPhone 5C and have a lot of songs on it, I want to sync new music from my new macbook onto my phone but don't want to lose the music already on my phone.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself independently backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
If you only have iTunes Store purchases transfer them to the computer, then erase sync them back again.  Either that or transfer the iTunes library to which the phone is actually synced.  Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)
