Hi- my wife has some music on her Ipod Nano and needs to put it on my laptop.  The music is from a shared computer that has been packed up.  Is there anyway to transfer that music to my laptop using itunes?

  • How to copy music from the iPod to iTunes ??

    Hello,
I use iTunes since some months and have bought several songs at iTunes. Now I also bought an iPod and copied the music from iTunes to my iPod.
Because my harddisk was almost full I deleted most songs in my iTunes directory because I thought it is possible to copy music from the iPod to iTunes ... i.e. I thought that the music on my iPod is like a backup.
But now I it seems impossible to copy music back to my computer. Are all those sond lost ?
Dear experts: Is there any possibility to get my music back to my computer ?
    I hope someone can help.
    Regards
    Michael

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve individual music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7, look under under File>"Transfer Purchases from iPod". A paragraph on it has been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer

  • How to sync music bought on iPod to iTunes

I purchased some music using iTunes and my iPod touch. Later I sync'ed with iTunes and the music was transferred to iTunes on my PC.
For several reasons I had to reinstall my PC but was not able to off-load data before the reinstall.
How do I now sync the music I purchased from my iPod to iTunes?
    Message was edited by: ttbrix

I have tried to use the 'transfer purchased music' but it is as if it has already replicated the music once and then it's not possible anymore.
I have bought music afterwards and that works fine.

  • How to play music from my iPod in iTunes?

I have installed iTunes 7.5 on a second computer and plugged my iPod. I can see its content but everything is grey and I can not play the songs?
    Why?
    How can I solve this?
    Thanks a lot
    Olivier

Grey text when you look at the content and a lock symbol at the bottom of the screen just indicates that the iPod is set to update automatically (sync). If you want to play the iPod songs through iTunes, delete songs from the iPod, drag songs from iTunes, add playlists to the iPod etc. you need to change the update setting to "manually manage songs and videos". The text will change from grey to black and everything will be directly accessible through iTunes:
    Managing content manually on iPod
    iPod 101: Fill 'er Up
Something to remember about using an iPod in manual mode is that the "Do Not Disconnect" message will remain on the display until you physically eject the device. In that case use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in the Windows system tray on the desktop and check this link for alternative methods: Safely Disconnect IPod

  • Transferring music from my ipod to itunes

My computer crashed and I lost all of my music. I've been trying to figure out how to transfer music from my IPod to ITunes. Any suggestions?

" I also want to add the music that was already in my ipod"
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.

  • How do I transfer or sync music from a Ipod Nano to a new computer?

I have a new computer and have installed ITunes on it.  An existing Ipod Nano has my music files.  How do I sync or transfer the music from the Nano, so I can use those files on my Iphone?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod Nano. And here is a guide about how to sync music from iPod nano back to computer. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

  • Can someone please tell me how to transfer music from my ipod to my new ipod touch

Can someone please tell me how to transfer music from my ipod to my new ipod touch

No.  You have to get the music in iTunes and then sync to the new iPod.
Transfer iTunes purchases from the old iPod by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Transfer other music by using a third-party program like one of thse discussed here:

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss.  To use a device with a new computer you transfer the content from the old computer (or its backup) directly to the new computer, not the device to the new computer. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

how to transfer music from old iPod nano to new iPod touch ?

The 1st and 2nd gen iPod shuffle can only be used with one iTunes library (not "account") at a time.  Your Apple ID and password does not matter.  (Later shuffles can be used with more than one iTunes library, IF it is set to use the Manually manage music option.)
So, if you sync it with a different iTunes library, the previous content will be replaced.  You need to offload the existing content to your new computer's drive as the first step.
You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes, except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store.  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.  (The CNET article seems to be popular.)
Once the song files are on your computer's drive, you can add them to the iTunes library.  After confirming all of your songs are there, sync your shuffle with that iTunes library.

You can sync music to the iPod by connecting it your computer, selecting the iPod on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, and then using the Music tab on the right-hand side of iTunes to select which of your iTunes music library to sync to it. There are some instructions on syncin music on this page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351
