THANK YOU, I really need your help...

If you want iTunes to update your music, videos, or podcasts when you connect your device, you should sync automatically. If iTunes is open and you connect your device using the USB Dock Connector cable, iTunes will sync with your device.
1. Connect your iPod to your computer and open iTunes.
2. Click the button with your device's name, below the Spotlight window.
3. In the main iTunes browser window, select Music.
4. Select Sync Music. You can select "Include music videos" if you want to sync Music videos to your device.
5. Your device needs to have enough free space to sync the content that you selected from your library.
6. Click Apply. iTunes will sync the content you selected to your device. The iTunes LCD will show the sync progress and notify you when the sync is complete.
7. To disconnect your device, find your device in iTunes and click the eject icon.

If the music is in your music file or on an external hard drive (windows) then, on iTunes, go to file>add to library and then choose what you want to add. Then sync music to your iPhone and your done.

  • Can you drag-and-drop music onto the iPhone in iTunes?

New to iPhone and only just braking it in, as it were.
It looks like the only way I can upload music onto my iPhone is via synching my entire library onto it. Which, if I may say so, is an incredibly stupid and debilitating design - amongst other severe shortcomings of the iPhone I am slowly discovering over time. Is it not possible to drag-and-drop like the good old iPods?
If this is indeed the only way to load music, what's the easiest I can pick out my favorite 2000-or so tunes and put them on there?? Don't tell me it's clicking on the boxes next to the songs in the Library page, because that's when I will start asking for my money back...
    Cheers

I don't blame this person whatsoever for making the assumption that the iPod portion of his phone would work similarily, if not the same, as the iPod.
But it does work the same as the iPod. As with an iPod, you can sync all songs and playlists, or selected playlists, or you can manually manage music and videos. You can also select sync only checked songs and videos under the Summary tab and uncheck the songs in your iTunes library that you don't want transferred to your iPhone. This can be used with syncing selected playlists - if you want to remove a song from your iPhone that is in a selected playlist without removing the song from the playlist in iTunes, you uncheck the song in the playlist in iTunes followed by a sync. There is no difference with an iPod in this regard except for the iPhone not supporting disk mode.
In order to manually manage music and videos with an iPod, you must select this under the Summary tab for the iPod sync preferences, and the same for the iPhone.
And if you resent his rant, why respond and waste your volunteer time on this post?
I can waste my time anyway I see fit. If you don't like it, don't respond.
And not everyone can afford to replace this type of investment on a whim.
    Copied from the OP's post.

Or the iPhone can be sold to someone else with the proceeds used to purchase a different phone. I haven't read any reports about someone having trouble selling their iPhone used at a good price even if damaged.

  • What is the best way to sync media onto the iPhone using iTunes?

I know of two ways- one is be simply dragging items onto the iphone folder. The other is by clicking the iphone folder and selecting which playlists, artists, ect I want to sync.
Is there any difference between the two?

I have the same question: what is the best way to sync documents between mac devices?
But I want to be clear:  normally when we use the word "synchronize" or "sync" we are referring to an automatic update to the latest version of the document, whatever the document.
Just to be clear:  to "transfer" documents is not really the same as to "synchronize".  I will add to the question here with my thoughts. Please excuse me if the om only wants to transfer documents.
We have tried, over many months, to use SugarSync.  It worked great when I only put in about 10 files to be synced.  It took the latest version and updated it on the other computers that were connected.  But when we tried to sync the whole disk ... we just could NOT get it to work right. Meaning it would scan absolutely ALL of the files on the computer looking for the ones that were modified rather than just taking the lastest ones modified and syncing those.  Their tech department was not much help: I followed all of the steps they told me to do but we just could not get it to work right.  What a disapointment (and a loss of money).
I would love to find a software that automatically detects what the last modified files were and it will update ONLY that on the other devices (no matter what kind of files they are).
Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

  • How to Sync music & put the music from iPhone onto computer?

I am trying to get the songs off my iPhone and onto my iMac. But when I try and Sync it it says that if I continue, it will erase ALL my songs from the phone and replace it with the songs on my computer (which is just a few.) So how do I get all the songs off my phone and onto my computer without losing any of them in the process???

Is this the computer you normally sync with? By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. To put your purchased content on your computer, disable auto sync when an ipod/iphone is connected, under preferences in itunes. Connect your phone, do not sync. Go up to Store>Authorize this computer to make sure your computer is authorized. Next, File>Transfer Purchases. All of your purchased content(music/apps) will be transferred. From there, select your content & sync.

  • My mac and pc both died. How do sync music from our iphone and 3 ipods onto a new pc?

A year ago my MAC just up and died.I have all the music that was on that mac on my iphone.
We couldn't buy a new mac, so we started using an old pc. My kids built a large itunes library on that computer which now has died.
We have another new pc. How do we combine all the music on 1 iphone (last syched for music on a mac) and 3 ipods (last synch on a different pc) onto this new computer?
When I want to sync,it wants to erase what is on my phone!
    Help!

Apps are 'registered' to a particular account so if they won't transfer this is suggestive of them being downloaded to the phone from another account.
If you are 100% sure they were bought on the relevant account active on iTunes and the iPhone (check in the account purchase history) then you can download them again for free.
If you get charged again, then its fairly certain that they were not bought on that account.

  • Does anyone know how not to sync "faces" onto the iPhone?

is there a way to leave out the faces feature on the iphone when transferring pictures? it is taking up too much space on my phone.

I believe that's a feature of the software you're using to transfer the pics, not the iPhone's.

  • How to sync music to the N8's MicroSD card

I bought a 32GB MicroSD card for my N8 so that I had enough capacity to store all of my MP3s. Unfortunately I can't convince Ovi Music Player to sync music to that location. It always tries to sync the music to the N8's 16GB internal storage area despite there not being enough capacity to do so.
Is there any way to configure either Ovi Music Player or the N8 to use the MicroSD card exclusively for the music library? It's making me very frustrated.

Putting Music on ANY Nokia phone is very simple !! All you need to do is make sure the music has artwork embedded before transfer  and the track and album info is correct. Once the music is in a state where it is fit to be put on the phone, it doesn't matter if you sync with Ovi Suite, Ovi Music, Windows Media Player or whatever. !!

Whilst I hear what you say, carman, just search for the number of threads relating to the problems many people have (and I have had corrupted libraries, album art missing, etc, and I am a fairly experienced user) just trying to get music into a library.  IF it was working, as it should, then the facilities provided by Nokia should just transfer the music in a easy standard way, complete with artwork, to your desired location, and you should end up with a working music system and a completely updated working library.  There should be ONE recommended way of doing it, which should be fairly automatic, simple, reliable, safe and should just work.  That situation does not exist.
Now, I am not saying providing flexibility by providing other alternatives is not desirable. What I AM saying is that Nokia should be able to say - "if you do it this way, then it will work correctly."  From the number of people who have problems with music transfer and libraries, it is obvious that this message has not reached the mass of the users. Whether that is an inability to provide such a feature, or an inability to communicate what it is, and how to use it, Nokia is falling down somewhere. To be honest, after trying to transfer my music to my sd card, unsuccessfully, and then getting advice to go into the file structure and delete files, I gave up and just loaded it onto the phone.  Why should an end user (most of whom, like my mother, are not as technically competent as me) need to start searching for and deleting files just to get their music library working? No wonder the restrictive practices implemented by Apple have been lauded (although I don't like that company because of it!).  At least they have made their product relatively user-friendly, which is a BIG plus when you are dealing in this sort of area. Not everybody is capable of dealing with the sort of problems people seem to encounter doing something as simple as loading music (in fact, probably the majority ....). It should just work!  This lack of ability to 'keep it simple' has been the downfall of Nokia. Their developers provide superb bells and whistles, but seem not to have grasped the fact that bells and whistles are fantastic to have, AS LONG AS THE BASICS ARE ROCK SOLID. And from my experience, transferring music to an sd card is no way a simple or rock solid process, without you doing a lot of digging to find out how to do it successfully - hence all the posts. KISS!

  • How to sync music/videos from iphone to computer - lost ext hard drive

I recently lost my external hard drive where I was storing all my music, videos and photos.  Long story, but the backup was not occurring.  I have precious video and music on my iphone (some original, not purchased) that I don't have the data for, but the iTunes libraries are still intact.  But the libraries are pointing to a drive that doesn't exist.  I have purchased a new hard drive that has the same drive letter as the original one.  Will iTunes create a new folder and sync my music and videos to the same place, or do I need to recreate exactly the same path?  Also, if something like this will work, will it sync, bringing the files from the iPhone to the new external hard drive? Please, can anyone help?

Thanks for your reply, KiltedTim!  After reading on some additional resource sites and evaluating suggestions and reviews, I did try a 3rd party software which worked beautifully!   The software allows the user to store the data into different folders by content type, including subfolders, too.  I completely understand Apple's theology to make the sync a one way deal for copyrighted content, but when the unthinkable happens, it sure is nice to at least have an option to preserve anything personal and legal that you have on your iPhone that you lost on your hard drive, mainly music, videos, voice memos, text messages and notes.  I am completely respectul of the protection of copyrighted music...I am just very glad that the people that created the software "had my back" this time for my precious family memories and the time saved trying to reimport all my music CD's!

  • How to sync music on my iphone across to my new itunes library

I don't have access to the iTunes library on my old computer as it is broken so I have no way of retrieving my music from there. I have an iPhone which has all of my music on, is there any way of syncing the music on my phone across to my new library? I'm worried that when I connect my phone it will wipe whatever is on there and just replace it with my purchased music from iTunes please help!! Don't want to risk losing all of my old music.

The iPhone is not a backup/storage device.  The sync is one way - computer to iPhone.  The exception is iTunes purchases.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for jut such an occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything on your new computer.

  • How to sync music to the ipod 80gb

it is saying it syncing the song but when i eject the songs are not pulling up

A Sync is just that. A particular song will only be added to your iPod if it is actually in your iTunes Library (and stored on your computer) and not simply listed with a cloud icon next to it (which means it's in the cloud, but not on your computer). Once on your computer, it needs to be in a compatible format and be included in things to be Synced.
Is the song stored on your computer or, does it have a cloud icon next to the title?
Is there any other symbol next to the song, such as this one...
What format is the song in (MP3, AAC, etc)?
Does it play in your iTunes Library?
Do you use Sync Entire Library or Sync selected Playlists etc.? If you do, is the song included in a list that will be Synced to your iPod?
Do you use Sync only ticked songs and videos? If you do, does the song have a tick in the box next to the title?

  • ITunes will not manually sync music onto my iPhone 5. When I drag my music onto the iPhone, the icon "bounces" and then the sidebar closes, not syncing the music.

I've tried restarting my computer, iTunes, unplugging my iPhone and nothing will fix it.

Also, some of the music I want to add to my iPhone will sync but some won't.

  • Itunes not syncing music onto my Iphone 5

If I buy music straight from itunes on my phone it syncs Into my music library, though in the past week I've imported 2 new CDs on to my computers itunes and it works but it won't sync to my phone? I finally found the section 'on my phone' (or whatever it is) and I have over 100 songs that are 'greyed out' with a little circle next to them that are not on my phone. Why is this happening and how do I fix this problem? My won't my CDs transfer to my phone?
I hope that made sense :)

Also, some of the music I want to add to my iPhone will sync but some won't.

  • I recently purchased songs from itunes via my pc and I dont know how to get them onto my iphone? When I click the sync button it says I will lose all the music currently on my iphone.. Help :(

I recently purchased songs from itunes via my pc and I dont know how to get them onto my iphone? When I click the sync button it says I will lose all the music currently on my iphone.. Help

If you're syncing with a different iTunes library than the one you previously synced with, then there is no way around it. You're gonna loose the old data. The only way round it would be to make sure that all the music files on your iPhone is also in your iTunes library. If you still have access to the computer with the old library, you could copy the files on to an external harddrive, and then import them into your new iTunes library.
If it is in fact the same library, then the music currently on your iphone, is also in your itunes library. Just make sure that the artists/albums/playlists, or whatever you sync contains these tracks, that you allready have on your phone and don't want deleted. What i do is, i create a playlist specifically for my iPhone, and i set it up to only sync with this playlist. Whenever i hear a track from my iTunes library or buy a new track that i want on my phone, i just drag it to this playlist and next time i synchronize, it's there without deleting anything else.
