How to sync music/videos from iphone to computer - lost ext hard drive

I recently lost my external hard drive where I was storing all my music, videos and photos.  Long story, but the backup was not occurring.  I have precious video and music on my iphone (some original, not purchased) that I don't have the data for, but the iTunes libraries are still intact.  But the libraries are pointing to a drive that doesn't exist.  I have purchased a new hard drive that has the same drive letter as the original one.  Will iTunes create a new folder and sync my music and videos to the same place, or do I need to recreate exactly the same path?  Also, if something like this will work, will it sync, bringing the files from the iPhone to the new external hard drive? Please, can anyone help?

Thanks for your reply, KiltedTim!  After reading on some additional resource sites and evaluating suggestions and reviews, I did try a 3rd party software which worked beautifully!   The software allows the user to store the data into different folders by content type, including subfolders, too.  I completely understand Apple's theology to make the sync a one way deal for copyrighted content, but when the unthinkable happens, it sure is nice to at least have an option to preserve anything personal and legal that you have on your iPhone that you lost on your hard drive, mainly music, videos, voice memos, text messages and notes.  I am completely respectul of the protection of copyrighted music...I am just very glad that the people that created the software "had my back" this time for my precious family memories and the time saved trying to reimport all my music CD's!

  • How do I download videos from iPhone 4s to my iMac hard drive?

Great lens on 4s but this is my first iPhone, and when I plug it in to iMac it does not recognize it as a separate device, which is what happens when I connect a camera. So how do I get video/photos downloaded so i can edit in imovie etc ...  and also (reverse question) how do I upload address book to the iPhone. ITunes recognizes device and I can transfer music/podcasts to phone ....  iPhone btw is IOS 5.0.1 if that matters.
    All advice greatly appreciated.

Never mind ... just opened up iPhoto and they were already sitting there, waiting to be downloaded.... so simple I didn't know.....

  • How to sync music/video from 1 computer and contacts/calendar from another?

I have set iTune's iPhone preferences on both computers to "Disable automatic syncing for all iPhones".
On my laptop, I have only checked synchronization for contacts (address book) and calendar. On my Mac Pro, I have only checked music and video.
In spite of these settings, when I sync to the laptop, all my music and video is deleted from the iPhone! The settings are still set correctly: music and videos are completely unchecked on the laptap iTunes synchronization settings.
The only workaround is to re-sync to the Mac Pro to pick up the music/video, after syncing my contacts/calendar on the laptap. But this takes forever because all the music has to be reloaded. Not only that, but I cannot sync iPhone to laptop while on the road without giving up all of my music and video.
Does anybody out there know if this is a bug? Is there a workaround? Or is there some other hidden setting I am not aware of to control this?
    Thanks!

IIn my original post above, I said "I cannot sync iPhone to laptop while on the road without giving up all of my music and video". So while your suggestion for the opposite sync works, that doesn't solve my problem.
When I am not at home, especially on a trip, I have my laptop with me and my iPhone. All my contacts are in the laptop but while out and about I am entering contacts and syncing them later to the laptop, but that ends up deleting the music, including MY MUSIC which is the point of the trip: being able to share my compositions with anyone, anywhere and capturing contacts as I go.
Yes, syncing on my laptop for contacts only and then on the tower for music works but that simply is a useless type of sync for me, because while on the road, I would have to choose between backing up my new contacts and wiping out all music OR not syncing contacts while on the road and hoping the iPhone doesn't get messed (which has happened twice now so this is a reasonable fear) in order to keep my music.
I do appreciate your suggestion and those instructions could be useful for someone else who needs the opposite of the sync I need.
Now I understand why some people say it works and others say it doesn't: it depends on which computer gets sync'd first!
At this point, I can only write a letter to Apple and request that they fix this problem in the next release!
    Thanks everyone!

I don't believe OS X has the ability to receive AirPlay (which is what you're using).  There's some advice on the matter on the Wikipedia page, though:

I had a av cord that plugged into the iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 but its not compatible with the 5 connector. Right now i have to email myself the videos in small segments and open and save on the iPad 2 to burn them.  Is there an easier way to burn these from my iPhone 5 or through air play on apple tv?
    Thanks

Connect the phone by USB to the computer, import with image capture, iPhoto or whatever application you use to import movies, drop it into iTunes.

They're DEFINITELY pushing Apple users that way. I just saw yet ANOTHER new/incredible feature the Galaxay can do that Apple (I mean Tim Cook) can't even DREAM about doing.
At this point, it's becoming an embarrassement to even own an iPhone. *sigh*

  • All of my music was on a hard drive that failed. How do I download them from iTunes match to my new hard drive?

All of my music was on a hard drive that failed. How do I download them from iTunes match to my new hard drive? I know how to do it one song at a time, but I want to know if there is a way to do it for all 10,000 song files at once?

There are some recovery programs out there if you google them - many with free trials. I haven't tried them so I have no opinion.Read any professional tech and user reviews you can find before you try one. I have read here in the past that some have worked for people who have posted here.
To help in the future, have you considered using Jump Desktop - Remote Desktop? I know it won't solve the problem you're dealing with now (unless notes were taken on your computer.) It's in the app store. It's the #1 paid app in the business category and the reviews are great. It allows you to see anything that's on your computer on your ipad. If you take your notes on your ipad then you might want to email them to yourself, put them on Word in your computer, for example, and then if you need them in class, you remotely connect your ipad to your computer and you will see your notes. This way you won't have to rely so much on the cloud. The explanation would be too long here, but you might want to take a look at it. You can use the free trial on jumpdesk.com and then if it works for you, buy it in the app store.
Meanwhile, it's hours since you sent this post. Hopefully others who can help solve your problem who are on this forum now can help you. I hope you get your notes back. Don't give up too quickly.
    Hope this helps.
