How to sync my iPhone to my new laptop without losing my data

I have a new lap top I need to connect my iPhone to.  It states when I do, it will replace my phone with the new itunes which is empty.  How do I transfer apps and info from my iphone to the itunes on my new lap top.

After tinkering for flipping ages I've finally found the best way to do this. It's not really that hard now I think back to all of the fuss I made figuring this out.
1. You want to move your iTunes library from your old computer to your new computer.
You need to buy a hardrive or a USB pen (cheap ones are available). You need to do this because you are going to copy your whole iTunes folder and place it in this new hardrive or pen drive. Locate your iTunes folder in your old computer's files and copy it. Make sure you copy the whole iTunes folder and not just the library or something. Now just paste the folder into your plugged in hardrive.
NOTE: If you dont have a pen drive or external hardrive then you can make this step cheaper. To do this check the size of your iTunes folder by right clicking on it and looking at its properties. Then buy as small a hardrive as possible that can fit your iTunes folder into it.
Safely unplug your hardrive and connect it to your new computer. You should have a folder for music that was there when you got your computer so copy and paste your iTunes into this music folder. Now when you open up yur iTunes programme you should see all your old songs and playlists in there.
2. Syncing your iPod or whatever you have.
Just plug in the iPod like usual. Since you have copied your whole iTunes the setting should already allow your iPod to sync. If your iPod isn't syncing then click on your device on the sidebar on the left. Now you will see buttons to click on at the top of the screen such as 'Music' or 'Films'. Click on these and make sure the 'Sync Music' or 'Sync Films' box is ticked.

  • How can I sync my iPhone to a new PC without losing app data?

My laptop has died completely and no back up. I am not concerned with music or photos as they're all online somewhere. I do have a couple of apps with data on them which I cannot lose if I sync my iPhone with iTunes on a new laptop. Will my data be lost if I sync it and if so is there an (easy) way to keep my apps/app data?

To be sure you don't lose any App data
             Create an iCloud backup
    2nd
    Prevent syncing automatically in iTunes
Windows    Edit > Preferences > Devices
√ Prevent iPods, iPhone .... syncing automatically
    3rd
Connect the iPhone to the PC
Setup as new.  This just tells the PC to treat the iPhone as a new device
    4th
    From the summary screen
    Create a backup
      Transfer apps
      Save App data.

  • My laptop was stolen how can I re-sync my iphone to the new laptop without losing all of my data?

    Hi to all,
I hope someone can help me.  I know this question has been asked in various formats but I can't seem to find exactly what I am looking for, so please forgive me if this type of question is asked again.
My laptop was stolen a few months ago and I have finally been able to replace it.  The common issue of course is that I can only sync it to one iTunes library at a time, which was on my laptop that some thief is currently enjoying the use of.
I don't have a lot of money so all of my backups were on the stolen laptop as I don't have an external hard drive.  I understand you can authorize iTunes or the iPhone to go on upto 5 computers at a time?
As soon as I plugged in my phone (on the new laptop) I created a backup of everything on there using iTunes.  I guess my question is, if I plug in my iphone and ask it to restore from back up, will it wipe the phone and replace it with the first back up on the new laptop or will it still delete everything altogether as the original content is not on the new laptop?
As much as it would be a pain, the music content is the least of my concern.  It's more a case of making sure I keep my contacts, photos and purchases from the app store.  I have read somewhere that you can transfer your purchases but I'm not sure how to do this.
I really hope someone can help and apologies for the repeat topic!
Thanks in advance to any who take the time to read and reply, I will appreciate any input/insight you may be able to provide.

Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

A few weeks ago I bought a Mac Pro from Ebay. I'm trying to sync my iPhone to it, but I can't figure out how to sync without losing my son's data on the apps he plays. • Old laptop died, syncing an iPhone 4s to new laptop without losing data.

Hi, my laptop recently died, I have an iphone 4s thats about a month old and never made a backup to my external HD before the laptop broke. I have my music library saved to the external HD from a couple of months ago, but no back up of the phone itself. I don't want to lose things like my contacts, pictures and messages when synching to my new laptop- is there any way to avoid this happening? Would using the iCloud feature help to avoid this, as I am unsure if it will.
Also with the laptop breaking unexpectedly I didn't de-authorize the laptop for itunes, will this effect things?
    Thanks for any help.

Just because the laptop "died" does not mean the harddrive is dead.  Unless the harddrive actually failed, it should be possible to simply extract it and put it into a drive case to access the data.
Then the iTunes folder can be copied to the new system and salvage everything.
If that is not possible, contacts should be synced with a supported application on the computer or to a cloud service.  Unless you are solely dependent upon the iPhone for your contacts, they are not included in the backup.
All media and apps should be in your backup on your external drive, granted some will not be there.  If you are in the US, the music can be re-downloaded via iCloud.  Apps can always be re-downloaded at no additional cost.

  • How do I sync my iPhone to my new computer without losing App data?

Okay, I just recently got a black 13" MacBook & did a clean install of everything on it. I also just updated my iPhone 3G to iOS4, which erased all my music but left my apps & other data in place. When I click the "manually manage" checkbox in the summary tab for the phone & click Apply, I get the error message "The iPhone " " is synced with another iTunes library. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library? Well of course not! I have already authorized the account on the new computer & transferred purchases from the phone. My question is, if I go ahead & do this, will all my apps be reset as if they were brand new? I know it sounds silly, but I have HOURS invested into my Angry Birds game & would rather live without music on the phone than lose that game's progress. Obviously, I shouldn't have to choose, it should "just work"....... Where do I go from here? My old computer is long gone but I do still have a Time Machine backup of it on an external drive if I need to pull a file from the old iTunes folder or anything (which I hope not because I already spent hours sorting through & figuring out what I wanted to add to my new computer's library). Any help on this would be much appreciated!

Any luck? I have this exact problem, only I prob have days invested in angry birds LOL. Scares the poop out of me to see that warning.

If the answer to the above question is "yes", FIRST, set up a backup of your new computer before you do anything else so the next time your computer breaks you will not be in the same situation. Backup solutions are numerous and inexpensive, and there is absolutely no excuse in the Third Millennium not to have one.

  • How can I sync my iphone to a new computer without losing music

I have heaps of music from my old work computer on my phone. I want to sync to my computer at home now. How can I do this without losing the music and other data???

To sync to a new computer without losing your data follow the steps outlined by Ingo2711 in this post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3801263?tstart=0.  However, as pointed out in this post, music not purchased from iTunes syncs only one way: computer --> phone.  (Music purchased from iTunes can always be redownloaded for free (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519).  You will have to purchase 3rd party software in order to transfer non-purchased music from your phone to your computer, such as Touch Copy.

  • How do I sync my iPhone to a new computer without losing all my data?

I hooked up my iPhone to my new computer and was able to transfer songs etc to my iPhone with no problems, just clicked and dragged like normal. Suddenly it wont let me do so, wont let me drag a song or anything over to my device. I noticed that the "manually manage music and video" check box was unchecked, so I clicked it and got the prompt to restore my iPhone and delete all the data on it. Obviously I clicked cancel. I have read a few other discussions about this issue but am confused and need a dummies approach please as most people seem to be referring to certain things, for example they are worried about losing their applications, or just their music....I want to be able to sync my iPhone to my new computer, without ANYTHING changing. I dont want to lose any music, apps photos, contacts, purchases....anything....
    Please help. Thank you!

By design, the iphone will sync itunes content with one computer at a time. Any attempt to sync such content with a second computer will result in ALL itunes content being first erased from her phone & then replaced with the content from the second computer. This is a design feature and cannot be overridden. Because you are replacing your computer, your phone will see this computer as a "new" computer. The itunes content sync is one way: computer to phone. If you have photos that were synced to your phone or music ripped on her own that were not backed up, you will first have to extract them from your phone using third party software, before you do anything else, as Apple makes no provision to do so:
    http://www.wideanglesoftware.com/touchcopy/index.php
Once you've done that, do the following in the order specified:
    1. Disable auto sync when an iPod/iPhone is connected under Preferences>Devices in itunes(under the edit menu if using Windows).
    2. Make sure you have one contact & one event in the supported applications(Outlook, Windows Address Book) on your computer. These entries can be fake, doesn't matter, the important point is that these programs not be empty.
    3. Connect her phone, iTunes running, do not sync at this point.
    4. Store>Authorize this computer.
    5. File>Transfer Purchases(To make sure all purchased content on your phone will be in your itunes library).
    6. Right click in the device pane & select reset warnings.
    7. Right click again and select backup.
    8. Right click again & select restore from backup, select the backup you just made. When prompted to create another backup, decline.
    9. This MUST be followed by a sync to restore your itunes content, which you select from the various tabs, You'll get a popup regarding her contacts & calendars asking to merge or replace, select merge.
You should be good to go.

  • How do i sync the iphone with a new computer without losing pictures?

my laptop was stolen and i've recently replaced it. now when i try to sync my iphone with the new laptop, it gives me messages saying that it will replace what's on the iphone by whatever it currently has on the itunes library. i can't have this happen because i have several photos that were uploaded to my iphone via the old laptop. i'd like to find a way to download the pictures and then place them back in my itunes library for sync in the future. at the very least, just be able to download them off my iphone to back them up. please help!

There is no way to get pictures off the phone or to move them from folders to the camera roll. The format on the phone is proprietary, so even if you could get them off you couldn't use them. Having said that, search the Internet; there are some apps that can access some files on the iPhone without hacking it. There may be one that can get the photos off. The only other option is to email them to yourself. This will reduce the resolution, however.
I'm afraid you have pointed out the importance of frequent computer backups.
