How to sync new iPod Touch to replaced Hard Drive?

Okay, so I dropped my MB Pro and had to replace the hard drive... tragically, at the moment when my newest Time Machine backup is June 6 (long story, but I kept having the "Time Machine Drive is full" problem and never figured out how to get around it without buying lots of new drives).
So... here I am with a new drive that, after I go buy a Torx 6 screwdriver, I'll have to reload with a fresh install of 10.6... and then piece together with what files I could salvage from the damaged drive... but then I just realized I'll have another problem.
I have an iPad that I bought before the backup date, but which has changed content considerably since... and I have an iPod Touch that's only about two weeks old, but loaded with all my old songs, etc. and several new apps.
HOW do I sync up the iPad and iPod Touch to the computer once the new but "June 6" drive is up and running? Is there a way to have all the changes on the iPad and iPod added back to the Mac, rather than forcing those two units to also go back to my June 6 backup profile?

Google "Pod to Mac". It is available as both a freeware and paid software. It will copy the content of your iPod touch and most likely your iPad as well back to your Mac. Somethings, like photos, may not get copied back.
As another potential backup, try Carbon Copy Cloner. You can use it to clone your hard drive making a restore much easier.

  • Using the new ipod touch as a hard drive and so enabling indexing

    Hi,
is it possible to mount the ipod touch as a hard drive and then search this using spotlight.
I have the 5 th generation ipod at the mo and after enabling indexing I can search this using spotlight.
    Cheers,
    Steve

How do you tell your computer to see your iPod touch as a drive?
You can't from within iTunes with the iPod touch. You have to use third-party App such as:

    http://www.itunes.com/App/AirSharing
    http://www.itunes.com/App/Files

  • How to sync an iPod Touch after replacing the hard drive

    Hello,
The hard drive on my second MacBook Pro failed, so we had a new one fitted.
I recovered most of the data using Data Rescue, so I can grab the music files, photos, Pages files, etc.
However I can't get the User data from the damaged drive, nor any of the software programs and serial numbers so I'm effectively starting again with just the software that comes with a 'new' Mac.
The Apple ID on the iPod Touch is very similar to [email protected]
When I launched iTunes for the first time on the MacBook Pro I entered that email address, but it seemed like a new account was started (?).
I connected the iPod Touch to the MacBook Pro.
    The message I got was...
"The iPod "Toby's iPod Touch" is synced with another itUnes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?"
    I clicked Cancel.
What do I need to do to get iTunes to recognise this iPod Touch so it finds all the apps we bought for it?
I have a funny feeling that we are logged in as [email protected] in iTunes, but this isn't the same account as the Apple ID of [email protected] on the iPod Touch. Or have I misunderstood something?
Extra info: I think this computer was working with a User name of Chris Payne, but since it's had a new internal drive we've only set up an account called Toby Payne.
I'd appreciate your help! Thank you!

""The iPod "Toby's iPod Touch" is synced with another itUnes library. Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?""
This is correct. There is no way around this. The ipod touch will sync with one and only one computer/library at a time. If you sync to another, it will indeed erase the current content and replace with the content from the new drive/library.
You can transfer itunes purchases ( including apps) from the ipod. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases

  • I bought a new ipod touch to replace my old one that did not have icloud.  How do I erase my old ipod?

I just purchased a new ipod touch to replace my old ipod touch.  The reason I bought a new one is I wanted one that had the icloud that I could sync to my ipad and iphone.  I am going to give my old one to my husband.  I plugged my new ipod touch into my computer and put my musice library on it.  I then tried to clear my old ipod touch.  I went to General Settings and told it that I wanted to clear the ipod touch.  It went thru a few things and then it said to plug it into itunes.  I do not understand why?  On my itunes it does not list two ipod touch's on there as devices, so I am scared it I plug the new one into itunes it will clear both.  Please help!

    Yeah, what planb77 said.
Just connect your iPod to your computer, let iTunes come up, and then select Restore to Factory Settings.  This will clear off every thing and install the current version of iOS for that generation.  You can name the device and then set up iTunes to synch the items you choose.
If you have more than one computer, let hubby set up his own iTunes account and Apple ID so you don't get your stuff mixed up.

Same basic way as if you connect it to your syncing computer.  However, you ned to restore to factory defaults/new iPod since there is not backup on the foreign computer.
In both cases you have to place the iPod in recovery mode to bypass (an erase) the iPod.  For recovery mode see:

That is because you cannot sync the iPod Touch to the iPad. It's not possible to connect the two devices in any way at all for any reason whatsoever.
if you want to download the same music that is on the iPod to the iPad, you can do that in iTunes in the purchased tab. If you want to have the same apps on the iPad, go to the purchased tab of the App Store and download the apps again. You can do the same with books in the iBooks app.
If you want to sync, Notes, Contacts, calendars, you can so that in Settings>iCloud - as long as you set up an icloud email account and turn those features on in the settings.
Perhaps, if you were to explain exactly what you want to do, we might be able to offer specific instructions.

  • Need help syncing new ipod touch to Itunes.

I recently bought a brand new Ipod touch 5th gen. I have the latest update for itunes, I want to start syncing music to my Ipod. My computer will not bring any info for this ipod touch into itunes. I had a 4th gen and I know that I seen on the right hand corner, under the search store, there should be a little icon with your Ipod below. No where is my Ipod been found. Every time I plug the USB cord into the computer, I don't see anything come on the screen. All I see is the battery charging on my Ipod. I'm getting frustrated with this Ipod not allowing me to get any music. What am I doing wrong? I also don't see any summary pane for me to reset to factory settings and start all over. how can someone help me on this? I tried turning on and off both the Ipod and computer, nothing, still the same and no Ipod is to be found on itunes.  PLEASE HELP!!

Just what version of iTunes do you have? For a 5G iPod/iOS 7 you need iTunes 11.1 or later.. If you have a Mac yo need OSX 10.6.8 or later.

  • Can't Sync New IPod Touch

I have just purchased the IPod Touch. I have an 80 gig classic. I can't get the touch to sync with my ITunes library. I keep getting the message "The Ipod "Ron's Touch" cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to. I have called support but to date I have not been able to get a solution to this problem. I can sync the Touch to other PC's so I know it is not a problem with the Touch. I am running an EMachine with XP Media Center Ed. Version 2002 SP2. It is an Intel Pentium D CPC 2.66 ghz. with 2 gig of RAM. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

My husband just got a new iPod touch 16 GB. He uses an HP Pavilion running Windows XP Home Edition (Service Pack 3) and the latest iTunes. Last night he tried updating his iPod touch (for the first time) and kept getting an error window (couldn't connect to the update server... check your network settings...). I figured it was because we were on Wi-Fi so I had him plug directly into one of the router's ethernet ports. It still didn't work. I did some googling and found a thread about re-checking the automatically detect LAN settings box in the internet options/connections. After that we were able to download and install the new software (even though it seemed to take a really long time). But anytime we checked for updates we would have to re-check the LAN settings box to get it to connect.
We tried syncing the iPod again after updating the software, but kept getting another error window (disc could not be found). We get the same error window when we try restoring the iPod touch.
Does anyone know what this means or how we can fix it? He just bought the thing and is having problems already (he is incredibly frustrated). Please help.
(I just realized how old the posts in this forum are... I may try posting elsewhere)

  • How to sync from ipod touch

how do i sync my ipod touch with music on it from a diferent computer without deleteing the music on it.

You need to move your music from your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computers files/docs/pics/music/etc for this very reason.
What's more, you can refer this article about how to transfer or copy music from iPod to computer, which included an easy guide to work out that.
    Cheers.

  • How to sync a ipod touch to a different computer?

    Hi,
I have a ipod touch and i used to sync it with a computer, then, the computer broked, so i tried to sync my ipod touch to another computer, but i can't (using same itune account). It said that if for example I sync the apps, then it would delete everything.
    Thank You

If you sync your iPod with a different/empty library iTunes will only give you the option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from the iPod to the computer and everything else on it will be erased. You'll find details on transferring purchases in this article: iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
Purchased applications can be downloaded over again, see this article for details: How to redownload purchased applications from the App Store
If you want to recover the music from CDs etc that is on the iPod and transfer it to your new computer there are a few things you can do. music from CDs etc.) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod Touch or iPhone. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer data (such as playcounts and ratings), movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well.
A selection of iPod/iPhone to iTunes utilities:
Senuti Mac Only (iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
One last thing, you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok before connecting your device.
Once you have recovered everything from the iPod and your iTunes library has been rebuilt it will be safe to sync again.

  • Connecting and syncing new iPod Touch to iTunes v10.1

I have several downloaded albums from the iTunes Store, along with some ripped cd's, and some downloaded albums that have been imported into iTunes, along with about 100 apps. I did have many of the albums on my previous iPod Nano 8gb, but in preparation for my iPod Touch 32gb 3g, I downloaded many free iPod apps, and bought a few.
Now, I forget all the things I checked in iTunes, but know it's set now to only sync on command, not automatically. When I connect the new iPod Touch 32gb 3g, I may also need to update the iOS to 4.2 also. First, can I do the iOS update with iTunes set to manual sync? Next, what options need to be set in iTunes to a)let this happen, and b)allow me to either manually or automatically sync my new iPod?
I realize now that when I do sync the new Touch, with that many apps (over 100) it might take a minute or two.
