How to sync only one group of contacts

I have created a "Group" of contacts in Address Book that are just those that I would like to carry on my iPhone 4. How can I set-up/sync only that group. Also, the bluetooth system on my auto, grabs the whole contact list, rather than the group that is "up front" on the iPhone.
Normally, I sync my iPhone thru Mobile Me, and when I try to sync through iTunes, I get a message warning me that this could create duplicates.  Of course, I would like to avoid this. Would appreciate suggestions.

Page 10 of the manual:
"You can sync contacts with applications such as Mac OS X Address Book, Microsoft
Entourage, Yahoo! Address Book, and Google Address Book on a Mac, or with Yahoo!
Address Book, Google Address Book, Windows Address Book (Outlook Express),
Vista Contacts, or Microsoft Outlook 2003 or 2007 on a PC. (On a Mac, you can sync
contacts with multiple applications. On a PC, you can sync contacts with only one
application at a time.) "
Are you trying to sync with two different applications?

Can we control syncing at all? I can't seem to make a Local/On My Mac group in Address Book.

  • Syncing just one 'group' of contacts from Address Book

I've just bought a 3GS iPhone and have transferred the contact numbers from my SIM card to the iPhone.
However, I use Address Book on both a MacBook and an iMac - the entries in these are not always identical. Is it possible for me to 'sync' just one group of contacts from the Address Book on my MacBook to my iPhone and then another group of contacts from my iMac to the iPhone? If any of these contacts have partial details transferred from my old SIM card will that mean I have duplicates or does the iPhone recognise that the SIM has only transferred, say, one contact number and will then go ahead and complete details for email address and home address?
Sorry if this is a very basic question but I don't want to end up with lots of duplicate entries and couldn't find the answer elsewhere
    Cheers
    Tricia

Yes, true for iPhoto as well. Note that even though the iTunes content is the same, you will want to turn off syncing of media on one of the computers. The restriction of syncing to one library means that even if the libraries have the same content, every time you sync to the other computer, all of the iPhone content will be erased and replaced (with the same content, but it will take quite some time if the amount of content is significant).

You can boot the entire remote machine (after booting the Master machine) as follows:
    tmboot -B <lmid of remote machine> -l <lmid of remote machine>.

  • Sync only specific groups for contacts mobileme on iphone

How do I only sync specific contact groups via mobileme on my iphone 3G?

With over 4000 contacts in my Address Book this is an important issue for me.
I am currently syncing my all my contacts via MobieMe having set up 20 or so Groups in address book. I have split my contacts amongst the Groups which makes it easier to sort/search on my iphone. It is also a **** of a lot quicker to search for a name in a group than looking for it amongst 4000 entries in 'All Contacts'
Some of my Groups change on a daily or weekly basis. For instance if I have a list of people that I know I want to call during the day, one group is called simply 'Calls', other groups my relate to Key Contacts and Key Projects, people that I am currently working with. When I job is done , I remove them from that Group but they remain in their Sector Group.
I found a App called ABContacts which displays the Groups, but also adds either the contact name or Organisation name beneath the key data. Handy
The only way to actually select specific groups is to sync your contacts with iTunes and select the groups that appear in the Sync Window. To do this you must first switch off Contact syncing with MobileMe on the iPhone. Make sure you are uptodate on MobileMe before you do this and back up your iPhone prior to doing this as you will lose all your Contact info of your phone prior to syncing Contacts with iTunes/AB
    Hope that helps
    Regards
    Dewi

  • HT1386 How do you sync only one way?

I want to know how to sync only one way because there are some photos from our previous apple devices and I don't want those photos to appear onto my new one when I sync to put the photos or videos onto the computer. Does anyone know how to do it without messing up the system?

The photos are now on your computer and you don't want them on your new iPad?
Then move this photos on your computer to another location (folder) first and then sync.

  • MobileMe Contacts Sync - only some groups ?

    Hi,
I know I can sync only selected groups via iTunes. But what about through MobileMe wireless Sync ? I have several big Groups I really only need on my home iMac and don't want to clutter up my Contacts on my 3G.
When I go to the MobileMe preferences I can only find a single button for Contacts, nothing to select individual Groups.

Pretty sure MobileMe doesn't offer that....
Just FYI: the price of MobileMe includes one-to-one chat support--the link will show up at the MM support site after a little pause or following some links.

The advantage of asking them is that hopefully it gets tracked as a feature request. You can also send feedback at

  • Issue with sync'ing Google contact: how to sync only contacts in My Contact

I tried to sync my Google contacts on my PC to iPhone using iTune: Info->Contacts, select Sync contacts with "Google Contacts" from the drop down list.
However, I am only allowed to select "All contacts" as the choice. The "Selected groups" radio button is grayed out and cannot be selected. As such, all the contact info in my Google contact are synced to my iPhone, which include all the "garbage" contact info Gmail has cached, e.g. all the e-mail addresses from whom you have received e-mails from, including junk e-mails. I only want to sync contacts listed in "My Contacts". But looks like this feature (sync only Selected Groups) is not enabled or yet to be implemented? Can somebody confirm this, i.e. feature not enable vs. some config issue on my part?
Does anybody know if there is a way around it?

OK. I have just figured out how you can sync the contacts only in My Contact subgroup using Google sync over the air.
The procedure is described in detail at Google Help:
Google Sync: Set Up Your iPhone or iPod Touch for Google Sync
    http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138740&topic=14252
I followed the steps there and it synced all my contact in My Contacts subgroup within a minutes.
However, I then edit a few contacts in my Google contacts just to see whether it will be synced automatically to my iPhone. So far after about 5 min, it hasn't happened.
So I am wondering how often it gets updated (or pushed) and if there are other settings I can twig this (I do have the setting Fetch New Data set to Push)?

  • How do I create a group in contacts for texting?

How do I create a group in contacts for texting to several people?

Create your group on your computer, and sync it on your iPhone. But you cannot use this group for texting. You need an application for this. Easy Group is a free one I have developped.

  • Sync only a group on iPhone via iCloud

On an iPhone 4s, how do I sync only contacts of a group?
In AddressBook I have "All contacts" and I created a group called "IPhone" and I want to sync only this group in my iPhone via iCloud.
Is it possible? I don't see any option but maybe there's a workaround somewhere
    iPhone 4s, iOS 5.0.1, OS X Lion 10.7.2
    Thanks

Ok, I've figured out what's happened but I don't know how to correct it. This is what I did: when I joined icloud I named the email account eg  [email protected] when I should have used [email protected] could someone please explain how to change it. I have tried to open a new account on icloud called [email protected] but it tells me I have already done that but the emails to that address are not coming to my phone only if I look on my PC. Any suggestions very gratefully received

  • Group Vote only one group

    Hi,
I'm designing a human task where there needs to be a group vote of the users of only one group. If I select Group Vote, group -> "Name of the Group", the task is sent to the users of the group. One of them claims it and answers for the all group. Not what I want.
What I want is, the users of the group receive the task, for example, 70% agree with the vote and the human task is finished. This behaviour happens when I select group vote and manually add all users of the group. How can I achieve this?
    Thanks,
    João

Tasks can be assigned to both users and groups. In a group vote, if you assign the task to a group, there is only one assignment, which is to the group.
If you want to create a group task for each user in the group, please assign dynamically the users of the group task using the xpath extension function, ids:getUsersInGroup(groupName, direct, realm). Please see section D.7.8 in the developer's guide for details of this function.

  • My iPhone calendar and iCloud sync only one way

My iPhone 4 (iOS 5) calendar and iCloud sync only one way -- from iCloud to the phone. Any ideas why I can't sync from my iPhone calendar to iCloud?

When you add an event on Iphone, 3rd fields down from bottom, select calender > iCloud. Voila!!
I am not sure everybody understand really the intention with iCloud. It is one single calender residing on a Apple server somewhere. Selecting iCloud from any device will show this calender. Then how to sync this with other calenders is to me a mystery, or not possible, especially on Lion iCal. Please anyone.

  • Purposefully NOT syncing only one calendar in iCal, possibility?

Does anyone know of a way to purposefully NOT sync only one of my ical calendars across MobileMe, while still syncing the rest?
I'm using the calendar in question to automatically run an application every hour on my home computer using ical alarms. I have my home computer and work computers synced through mobileme so that my calendars will show up on my work computer. Problems is I do not want the application to be run every hour on my work computer. Unchecking the calendar did not seem to stop the alarms from going off on the work computer. Can anyone think of a way I can keep the calendar at home but not have it sync to mobileme?
    Thanks!

I bought and have used BusySync with great success http://www.busymac.com/
My only caveat is that I've had problems recently that are probably due to the fact I've also installed Appigo Sync, and with syncing via MobileMe I may have had too many cooks in the kitchen.
    Good luck!
