How to sync with Mac in OS X 10.7 Lion?

I just installed OS X 10.7 Lion and noticed the iSync app is gone? How do I sync my contacts and calendar between my Nokia N8 and my MacBook Pro?

If you're feeling intrepid, here's a way to manually install the plugin:
1-Obtain the plug-in installer from Nokia. Open the dmg archive.
2-Right-click on the installer package itself (not the dmg archive). Select "show package contents" from the contextual menu.
3-Open the Contents folder.
4-Drag the item "Archive.pax.gz" to the desktop.
5-Right-click on Archive.pax.gz and open it with "Archive Utility"
6-You'll see a folder called "Library" on the desktop. Inside this Library folder you'll see a "PhonePlugins" folder. Inside this PhonePlugins folder is a folder with a name that probably begins with "Nokia_" (For instance, for my n79, the name of this folder is "Nokia_N79_isync_plugin_2v1.phoneplugin"). Drag the Nokia_ folder to a pre-existing folder in the following location:
Mac HD (or whatever you name your primary hard drive)/Library/PhonePlugins. If the PhonePlugins folder doesn't already exist, you may create one in the path above.
7- So, what you should end up with is: Mac HD/Library/PhonePlugins/Nokia_...

How can I STOP mail from syncing with .mac????

I don't have a .mac account, I will never have a .mac account, I have in mail prefs BOTH boxes under "synchronize with other computers using .mac" unchecked, and yet Mac Mail tries to tie up my entire system "synchronizing with .mac" all the time, especially when traffic is heavy (downloading or uploading). I've got activity viewer on and the stop sign is ghosted, there appears to be no way to stop Mail from doing this useless tie up time wasting process that manages to completely freeze up mail until it's completed and sometimes slow up other programs as well. I only have POP accounts, no IMAP accounts that have to be synced.
This didn't start happening until I upgraded to 10.4.11. Prior to that Mail blazed through everything, and it NEVER tried to sync with .mac.
Is there any way to turn this useless "feature" (for me) OFF?

I was on Tiger earlier, but just got home to a Leopard machine... and a power outage during the day seems to have blown my Tiger's Monitor, but look for...

I'd try dragging the whole folder, if it exists...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/SyncServices
to the Desktop & reboot, we can always move it back if need be.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.DotMacSync.<ethernet MAC address>.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DotMacSync.plist
are both other good choices to drag to the desktop.
We might even have to go in and Copy this to the Desktop then Trash the originl...
/System/Library/CoreServices/dotmacsyncclient

Entourage Tasks and iCal "To dos" have disappeared during sync with .Mac

All of my “tasks” (both completed and incomplete) in Entourage and "to dos" iCal have disappeared, apparently during a sync with dot Mac. This problem has happened twice in the past two weeks (the first time I lost all of my Entourage “notes” too, but I haven’t put any back).
The tasks show no problems for a week and then all of a sudden disappear from both Entourage and iCal. My calendar and address book (which I also sync) seem not to be affected. Entourage doesn’t seem to offer a way to sync the calendar without syncing the tasks as well.
Here are my questions:
Why did my tasks disappear?
How do I prevent their disappearance again?
has anyone else experienced this problem?
My Entourage database is fine. I’m running Entourage 11.2.3 (which rencently added a feature "sync services" that allows syncing with .Mac and iCal).

I had the same problem and I got my To Dos to appear when I clicked on the To Dos by Priority column header and checked/unchecked the Hide Items outside Calendar View option. (Doesn't seem to make any difference whether it is checked or unchecked ... it displays all of the items ... at least until restart iCal ... then it is a bit unpredictable.)
I also have intermittent problems when I create or change a new Event. Sometimes the change does not appear until I move off the page that I am displaying and come back (e.g. move forward a week in week view and then back.)

Gmail not syncing with .Mac

Hi,
I am having an issue with Gmail and Mail that I can't find a solution to anywhere and I am hoping that someone here can provide some insight.
I use Mail.app on a G5 and an iBook and use .Mac to keep mail, calendar and addresses in-sync b/w the two. I have 4 email accounts set up in Mail.app: DotMac, Gmail, Qwest.net and another POP account. All of them work sync fine b/w the two machines except for Gmail. I can receive Gmail on either machine without any problem. The trouble begins when I receive Gmail on one machine, sync with .Mac, and then go to the other machine and sync with .Mac there. The Gmail email that I received on the first machine and already read doesn't show up on the new machine. However, the other email addresses all do this just fine. Does it have something to do with the way Gmail's POP service works? I have Gmail set to archive emails. Does that matter?
I would greatly appreciate any help. This has been killing me!

Hi Brian.
First of all, .Mac doesn’t synchronize locally stored mail between computers. Only mail stored on the server can be synchronized, and you don’t need .Mac for that; any IMAP account would do. If you can see mail received on your POP accounts on both computers, it’s because they’re both downloading it from the server, not because of any .Mac synchronization.
Moreover, Gmail POP access doesn’t work as a normal POP mail server would. Here are some of its idiosyncrasies:
1. Messages downloaded by any conventional POP mail client are marked as downloaded at the server (but not as read on the web), and no longer available to either the same or any other POP mail client.
2. To make already downloaded Gmail messages available for POP access again, you must log into your Gmail account with a web browser and re-enable POP downloading for all your messages, which will cause everything (and I mean everything) still there to be downloaded again.
3. Any Mail > Preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Remove copy from server settings have absolutely no effect on the messages stored on Gmail’s server. The reason is that, after being downloaded, those messages are no longer available to any mail client, not even to the same client that has just downloaded them, not even for deleting them or checking whether they are still there.
4. Messages created and sent using the web interface will be downloaded by your POP mail client as if they were incoming messages. You can set up a rule in Mail to automatically route those messages to the appropriate Sent mailbox (or to any other mailbox for that matter) if that's what you want. Although this may seem weird, it's good because it allows archiving all messages locally in Mail, regardless of how they were sent -- as long as you don't access the same Gmail account with more than one POP mail client, that is.
5. Messages created and sent using a POP mail client such as Mail are also treated as if they were incoming messages for POP purposes, just as in 4. What prevents them from being downloaded is that Gmail marks them as already downloaded immediately. They would, however, be downloaded if Gmail settings were changed as described in 2 above.
6. As a particular case of 5, messages sent to yourself will appear in your Inbox on the web, but cannot be downloaded by either the same or any other POP mail client.

How to sync with two computers not at the same time, I'm registerd with one computer

How to sync with two computers (not at the same time), I'm registered with one computer and am trying to connect with second computer with same iPhone. To sync the first time with the second PC "Firefox Sync Option tells me Create New account or Connect, when I connect it gives me a Passcode and on iPhone it also gives me a Passcode, than how do I connect? Both the iPhone and PC gives me a Passcode and have now idea what to do with them.

Problem : IPad Mini connects to iTunes OK, can be seen in iTunes and I can select which movies to sync to it etc. When I hit the "apply" button after making a change (ie deleting or adding a movie) the sync lasts just a second then the "sync" button remains greyed out, and I can't make them sync.

Whenever I connect iPhone 3GS to sync with Mac sync fails to open. Brand new are there any upates I am unaware of?

"sync" fails to open? Do you mean, iTunes?
If you manually open iTunes, does your iPhone show up in the left column?
If so...
Click on your iPhone in the left column of iTunes.
Click on the "Summary" tab in the right colum of iTunes.
Scroll down to "Options"
Select "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected"

GMail accounts no longer sync with Mac in Mountain Lion

GMail accounts no longer sync with Mac in Mountain Lion. Should I upgrade to the latest operating system - I'm not sure if it will slow down my laptop as its quite a few years old now.
If I long in on Safari it works fine so L know that my password is correct. It also works fine on my phone and iPad.

How to sync 2 macs with apple TV

We have apple TV and it's already synced with my boyfriend's macbook and his iTunes and iphoto libraries. Is it possible to sync with my libraries too? Both iTunes and iPhoto?

I would actually make an addendum to the above question but I fear I already know the answer since I looked in the Support section for the Apple TV. So...there is no way...what so ever...to have multiple iTunes Accounts set up to Home Share on one Apple TV, correct? This, honestly, makes me very angry because the original Apple TV, while you could only sync one iTunes Library, would allow you to stream from multiple libraries. Now I'm unable to stream my iTunes content to the Apple TV in the living room, only the one in my bedroom as the living room is signed in with my room mate's information.
Like I said, I probably know the answer, I just always like to check to be sure. Thanks for your help and have a great day!

Multiple email accounts got synced on accident when I synced with .Mac

Yesterday when I did the sync with my .Mac account it gave me a warning that it was going to update alot of emails... thinking nothing of it I said yes. What I did not realize it that it synced all of my roommates email accounts and contacts that he has in his own user profile on my computer. Does anyone know how to go about reversing a Sync? I need to get his email accounts out of mine, and all that good stuff.

I have set-up all 5 accounts on the iPhone but due to wanting all my emails in one single inbox (.Mac inbox) it doesn't give me the option to choose which account I wish to reply from, therefore if I do send from one of the other accounts it doesn't show the sent item in my .Mac account which kind of defeats the object of trying to synch my email!

Sync with Mac and Windows issue

I bought my wife an iPod (our first). I use a MacBook Pro and she uses a Windows desktop. I copied all of my iTunes music onto the new iPod for her from my Mac. I downloaded iTunes to her Windows machine and tried to sync with it, but it says the iPod must be reformatted for Windows and that will wipe out all of her music files. Is there a way that I can copy the music files to the Windows machine so that she doesn't have to use my computer to sync? These are not protected files. All were copied from our CDs.

OK first thing to know is that Windows machines can not (without $$$ software) read Mac formatted iPod. However Macs can read and use Windows formatted iPods just fine. So go ahead and format the iPod on the windows machine.
Next, you will want to transfer your library from the Mac to the Windows machine. If your library is smaller than the total capacity of the iPod, then you can plug the iPod into her Windows machine and then configure it (a checkbox) to enable disk mode. Eject the iPod and plug into the Mac. The iPod should show up in the Mac's iTunes, but also on the desk top as a disk drive.
At this point it is a simple matter to copy the iTunes folder from the Mac onto the iPod. Eject the iPod, then plug it back into the Windows machine, and copy the stuff off the iPod (as a disk drive) to the Windows hard drive.

Sync with .mac to update bookmarks on two PCs

I have a mac mini and a mac book. I want to keep my bookmarks updated on both. I used to have the ability to sync the two, but now I can't since I installed 10.4.7. How do I update my bookmarks so that they are all the same on .mac and the two PCs?

You have posted your query in the iSync forum, and are unlikely to receive the attention you issue requires, as iSync has had nothing at all to do with .Mac Sync since the release of Mac OS X 10.4 more than a year ago. You should instead have posted in the .Mac Sync forum, here:

To reset sync history, do this:
• launch the System Preferences application
• select the .Mac pane
• press the Advanced tab
• once your registered computers appear in the list, press the Reset Sync Data… button
• select Bookmarks from the Replace: drop-down menu
• press the right facing arrow so that the orange animated arrow moves from left to right
• press the Replace button
This will move a copy of your Safari bookmarks on that machine to .Mac, and through it, to the other computer in your pool. You may then have to go to the .Mac bookmarks area and either turn on synchronization—or turn it off and turn it back on once again—by first pressing the Open Bookmarks button, and the the switch icon in the page which then appears.
