How to synchronize a graphic on one layer with an effect on another

Hi. I'd like to use the bulge effect on my main layer to create distortions in the underlying graphic. I'd also like to synchronize this with the image of a magnifying glass or other lens so that when I mover the lens around, the main image distorts / bulges beneath it. Not sure if I should place the magnifying glass on its own layer (or the same layer as the main image). Also not sure how to go about parenting an effect (like bulge) to an object / image (like a magnifying glass).

As to the Search function, I usually do try to search first because I understand these forums are pretty much run by volunteers who are giving freely of their time and expertise. That said, I rarely find what I need. Probably has to do with how the info is indexed, plus my overall lack of familiarity with After Effects at this point. For instance, I just tried putting in "linking a layer to an effect on another layer" or something like that. That pulled up a list of 20 or so items. There were a couple of links to Expressions, and that probably would have tipped me off to the right answer.
Anyway, I appreciate the link you provided, and I'll try to work on my searches.

Please follow the below steps.
Step 1
Create the separate layer. Select the content you want to move.
Step 2
Go to check layer panel, near the pen symbol icon, the below box drag to move up to the image layer, see sample

I have tried to find a soloution to this in the forum, but perhaps my english not being native prevents me from using the correct search terms - so here it is for you to solve
Layer one: background with some rocks
Layer two: a person standing in front of green screen.
The person in layer two is "placed" on a rock
Now, in layer one the camera is slowly turning left to right.
I want the person in layer two to still stand on the rock, even though the rock is "moving"
I have solved it by manually moving the person frame by frame so his position on the rock is the same in every frame, but this is very hard work, and also very hard to do well.
Question:; Is there a way to make PP understand that the person in layer two should be in the same position related to the rock, even if the rock is moving?

This is called tracking, and this is the job for a compositing application, e.g. for After Effects, rather than a non-linear editor.
In After Effects you can track objects with legacy point tracker or with Mocha, which is a separate application included with After Effects.

It doesn't go in there at all. Style rules should go in a style block in the head of the page like this:

Yes sir. It w was really hard to explain. It is discontiguous segments that are separated by transparent areas. And I want those non transparent areas to be on their own layer. I have a photo shop file that has a bunch of buttons on them and they are on a transparent background. It is one layer. I want to select all the buttons and put them on their own layers. I can do this manually by selecting a button and cmd Just to a new layer, but when I have 200 buttons it is a daunting task.

How do I copy text from one layer to another?

I have Googled this but not a single answer seems to work.
I am using Photoshop CS4 on OS X 10.6.7.
OK, so I have a layer that has some text in it. I would like to be able to simply copy that text from one layer to another, but this seems to be impossible as the Edit Paste menu item is grayed out after I have copied it in to the clipboard. I can paste it into the SAME layer, but not into another layer.
This is how I am trying to do this.
In the layer with the text, click on the "T" icon to the left.
Click on the text, in the layer that I want to copy.
I select the text (either by clicking and dragging or pressing Command-A).
Next I press Command-C.
Then I click on the layer In the Layer Panel) where I want to paste the text.
Pressing Command-V is impossible because the Edit-Paste menu option is grayed out!!!!

First thing you can simply right click on the Text Layer and choose Duplicate Layer. But that will create a new Text Lay
er identical to the one you have.
To answer your question in your case.... Create the Text Layer. Make a New Layer. Or have the layer you want to paste into visible.
Highlight the text layer in the Layer Palette and Ctrl+Click (Win) Cmd+Click(Mac) so that you see marching ants walking around your text.
Edit>Copy.
Then highlight your Layer you want to paste into and hit Edit>Paste or Cmd+V / Ctrl+V.

Frank gave you the exact answer to your question.
However, I would like to ask if you are indeed asking the right question. Do you really want different libraries? The implications are that you have to "switch" libraries to see what's in the others, and so that your searches don't work across all of your pictures? If so, then you asked the right question. If not, you may be more interested in relocating your masters to multiple hard drives so your library gets smaller, instead of breaking up the library.

Might be a good idea to also post over in the iPhoto forum if you haven't tried this yet as this is a common topic on their boards.
You may be able to get your iPhoto library back by rebuilding it. I've done it, but's it's been a long time, so don't want to mislead you on anything. The guys over in the iPhoto forum are real experts and should have some fixes for you.

They sometimes have that information on the label. Otherwise, it's trial and error. The model you have is a Late 2009 13" MacBook. It came with a special version of 10.6.1 pre-installed.

Masking a Solid Layer with an Effect

Should be easy, you would think.
I have a solid layer (white) with a radio waves effect applied to it. I've got the effect dialed in and it's what I want, but I want to mask off just a triangular portion of this layer, creating a beam shape (not eminating in 360 degrees.)
But my mask has no effect on the effect, if you know what I mean. I've tried inverting the mask and changing the mask modes but nothing works.
Isn't there a way of masking a shape layer with an effect on it?

Precompose or nest.
Apply the triangular masking to the nest.
Think of it this way, your'e making a movie of the radio wave effect then importing the movie and applying a mask to the movie.
You can also set Radio Waves to use closed but custom shapes as the emission source but that's often more trouble than simply masking a nested pr precomposed sequence.

Grabbing one layer... but moving another?

I'm using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac. I'm having a strange thing happen that hasn't always happened. When I click on a layer to move it... suddenly when I go to move it, it switches to another layer and moves THAT (wrong) layer. It's really annoying. They are not linked.
Along similar lines, something else weird is happening. When I create a group... I can't move just one layer within that group. ALL layers in the group move. This also didn't used to happen.
I guess I somehow changed a preference, but I can't for the life of me figure out what is causing this.

I always use the move tool in that mode. It is the best way to find what from your image is on which layer. Most of the time I have dozens of layers with generic names and you can imagine how hard it would be to figure out what layer certain part of the image is on.
Holding Ctrl toggles this option. So if you are in one of the modes and you need the other occasionally just hold Ctrl while using the Move tool.

How do I add keyframes to adjustment layer with DirectLink?

I created a project in Premiere CC. I have one video layer, I added an adjustment layer, I send the project to Speedgrade via DirectLink. When I select the adjustment layer in Speedgrade I'm unable to add any keyframes to it, they are greyed out. I can add them to the video layer with clips just fine. What am I doing wrong? How can I add keyframes to an adjustment layer?

Right now it's impossible to add keyframes to an adjustment layer with Direct Link.

How to synchronize several compiled LabVIEW VIs with trigger?

- We have a timer (LabVIEW-VI).
- We also have several different other files who should listen to the timer.
Triggering with notifications wont work because copilation gives an own thread for each app. Notifications work only in the same thread...
Triggering with a global doesnt work also!
Seems to be the same problem...
Someone have an idea how to send a trigger from one compiled VI to another?
(We dont want to communicate over a file by the way.. )

I'm assuming that you're talking about built applications (.exe files) since all VIs are compiled. To communicate between applications, you can use ActiveX, TCP/IP, or datasocket. Datasocket might be the easiest. Set the time program to be a datasocket writer and have a datasocket read in the other programs.
