  • Importing contacts from iPhone to MacBook Pro's address book

Do I need to download and install iTunes onto my MacBook Pro, in order to transfer contacts from my iPhone into my MacBook Pro's address book? If I simply plug my iPhone into my MacBook Pro's USB port, is there a way to get it to sync to my address book? Or do I need to first install iTunes; as is the case for syncing to Outlook running under Windows?

You need iTunes (it should already be on your MBP, though!).
Also, if your goal is to transfer the contacts from the iPhone to the computer, you must have at least one new contact in the MBP's Address Book app. If it's empty, the contacts on the phone will be wiped. Create a new (dummy) contact, then sync the iPhone and you'll be prompted to Merge or Replace the data - choose the Merge option.

  • How to sync contacts and Address Book with New IPad?

    Hello!
I'm having no luck syncing Contacts. I've set iCloud settings to sync Contacts, as shown in the iPad manual. I want to sync Contacts on my new iPad with Address Book (5.0.3) on my laptop (10.6.8) and with Address Book on my iMac (10.5.8).
I've had some success by 'manually' using iTunes on the iMac and the laptop (iTunes>Devices>iPad>Info button>Sync Contacts>All Contacts). But this is not pulling contacts from the iPad to the iMac or laptop; not syncing, just one-way traffic.
    Thanks
    Potty

You'll have to update to Mac OS X Lion.
It's in the requirements listed at the bottom of this page -> Apple - iCloud - Your info up to date on all your devices.

  • Cannot sync iphone 3G contacts and address book using MacBook Pro.  What can i do?

I have an iPhone 3G and a MacBook Pro with latest operating system.  Have also set up iCloud on Mac.  iPhone is not on IOS5.  Within the last day, the contacts disappeard from phone.  Tried to sync using itunes, including the option to copy contact content to phone.  Also powered off the phone to see if a reset would work.
Does anyone have an idea as to how to copy / sync contacts to phone when the software does not seem interested in doing it automatically?
    Thanks

To gain Internet access for the MacBook Pro, you will either need your own Internet service provided by an ISP or access to another Wi-Fi network that has Internet service.
Your MBP has a built-in wireless adapter, called an AirPort Extreme Card. This adapter is able to connect to just about any Wi-Fi network available today.
If you opt to get your own Internet service, most ISPs will provide you as a minimum an Internet modem. Some also offer a wireless version of this device. For those that do not, you will also need an Internet router (wired or combination wired/wireless) in order for your MBP's wireless to connect.

  • How to restore mail messages and address book?

Recently the hard drive on my eMac failed. The drive would no longer mount. Fortunately, my entire user folder has been recovered. While I see the files such as AddressBook.data and Incoming_Mail they are showing up as generic documents. I can't seem to import these files or open them with their respective applications (Address Book and Mail). How can I restore these previous messages and prior address book? I want to add this recovered data to the new address book and mailboxes that I have created in the interim after the hard drive crashed and I began using another Mac.
    17" iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
20" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

the new version of Mail is not recognizing the mbox files and therefore I can't import them.
Again, this is wrong. Not only does Mail 2.x recognize Mail 1.x mailboxes, but can import them as either Mail for Mac OS X or as Other. The exact procedure is slightly different in each case.
I need a way to bring these old mbox message files into Tiger.
And I need that you explain what exactly it is that you’re doing and what exactly is the problem in order to be able to determine what exactly it is that you’re doing wrong...

  • Contacts and address book wiped out when syncing iphone

HELP!! All my address book contacts on my computer and all my iphone contacts were wiped out after syncing. Sadly, I have never backed up. I've gotten as far as library>app support>address book, but the files are computer mumbo jumbo with bits and pieces of my old info thrown in. Is there any way to convert this to human speak??? Thanks,
    Desperately seeking my info back

Contact info is included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated if needed as the first step during the sync process - if any of the data on your iPhone that is included with the backup has changed since the last sync.
If you haven't synced your iPhone again since the contact info was lost with the last sync, do not sync again and try restoring your iPhone with iTunes from your iPhone's backup.
If this restores your contact info, before syncing contact info with the Address Book on your Mac, enter one unique contact in the Address Book on your Mac. Make the contact up if needed, which can be deleted later. This should provide a merge prompt when syncing contact info, which you want to select.

  • How to move Mail and Address book content from 10.3 emac to 10.5 iMac

How do I move Mail and Address book content from my old 10.3 emac to my new 10.5 Leopard iMac directly, or do I have to move the names etc, one by one?
    Richard

I cannot find a migration assistant. I have copied the Mail and Address Book applications over from 10.3 to 10.5 and tried using mailboxes import, but 10.5 Mail will not accept any of the options. The same for address book. Can you give more specific instructions?
The applications, Mail and Address Book, don't actually store your data in the application. So, moving the applications over to your new computer will have no useful effect and could be detrimental if you replaced the newer versions with the old.
Migration Assistant is in you Utilities folder and should have asked to be run during the installation.
Your Mail data is stored in yourUserName/Library/Mail. The Address Book data is stored in yourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook. If your new installation is blank with no data, you can actually replace those directories on the 10.5 version with the old. For Mail, you also have to get the com.apple.mail.plist file from your old username/Library/Preferences/ folder and put it in the new 10.5 folder of the same name. Once that is done, when you open Mail and Address Book, they will update the data to the new format.
Migration Assistant will do all of this for you.
EDIT: Based on roam's comments, you may have to move the Mail manually. You can also just bring the Mail directory over to the 10.5 machine and use Mail's Import command to get all the mail out of the old Mail directory.

  • New phone does everything but sync iCal and Address Book

I have Leopard on my MacBook Pro; my new iPhone works fine - except for sync of iCal and Address Book. iTunes behaves as if it is syncing; but then there is nothing on the phone.
I've scanned the other sync-related messages, and nothing suggested there has helped (restarting both devices; clearing the iSync cache; etc.). I called Apple, and a nice young man walked me through many possibilities, ultimately suggesting I archive & reinstall Leopard. (He assured me it was like starting from scratch, and I'd have to reinstall my apps; of course that is not the case.) I did that; it didn't help.
Sync does work with a new user I created; but I can't figure out how to get my iCal and Address Book files over there.
    Any suggestions appreciated!

Sorry, missed it in the previous post.
    Couple of more items.
Export all contacts from address book. vcards would work.
Delete all contacts from address book.
    Quit out of address book.
Open finder and go to your home directory/library/preferences.
Drag the com.apple.AddressBook.plist file to your desktop.
Open isync preferences and reset sync history.
Open address book back up and enter a test contact into address book.
Connect the iphone to the computer and try just syncing contacts replacing contacts on iphone.
If this works, import all your contacts back into address book and sync back to iphone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Backup software, difference between "address book" and "address book - all"

    Hey sheepshead,
Welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
    Thanks for the question.
This is caused by having multiple address books on the BlackBerry smartphone.  This can also cause syncrhonization issues, I would suggest following the steps in this KB article to make address book number the same as address book all: www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB19704
Let me know if you have any more questions.
    Cheers.

  • How to sync bb/outlook/gmail contacts and calendar

i have a bb 9530 and outlook 2007 running on a 64-bit windows 7 pc.  i use outlook to view my gmail.  i also have the bb gmail app on my phone and that keeps email in sync between gmail servers and the phone as well as outlook since it is setup for an imap account.  so that's all good.
the problem is that i need to know the best way to keep my contacts and calendar in sync as well.  since i can't "imap" my gmail contacts and calendar, there are 3 different locations to sync for those.
also, the gmail sync app for outlook has alot of problems on windows 7 and 64-bit vista or 7 so that didn't work either.
    any suggestions would be appreciated.
    thanks...  dave

I have the same problem.  Did you learn how to solve this?
    Thanks,
    Tracy

  • How to sync calendar and contact with Galaxy S2 and iCal and Address Book, how to sync calendar and contact with Galaxy S2 and iCal and Address Book

I have a Galaxy S2, gmail account, hotmail account and want to know the best way to be able to sync calendar and contacts from the Galaxy S2 with iCal and Address Book. I want to be able to make changes on any device and be able to sync the changes.  Hotmail is my main email account and would prefer to use tha account but I know that the Galaxy prefers Google.  Any ideas?

You have several ways to sync your phone to a mac.
You can use Samsung Kies for mac. You can download it here.
You can also use Google for it. Open Adress Book, click Adress Book on the left top of the screen, click Prefferences and open the Accounts tab. You'll see a "Synchronize with Google" checkbox, click it, enter you mail and password and you are good to go.
On iCal go to Preferences (top left, click iCal to see it), open the Accounts Tab, you'll see a blank list on the left, at the bottom of it there is a "+" sign, click on it and select Google on the Account Type dropdown list, enter your account details and you are done.
Third way to do it is by using third party software such as SyncMate.
Hope any of these alternatives solve your problem!
(The iCal and Address Book instructions are for Snow Leopard, but it should be almost the same on Lion)

  • HT4872 My gmail contacts and my iphone contacts are synced.  I want to un-sync them

My gmail contacts and my iphone contacts are synced.  I want to disconnect this function from my phone and be able to edit and remove all those contacts that are just email addresses.  How can I do this?

Settings > mail, contacts, calendars > Gmail > contacts > off > select "delete from my iPhone."  This will delete all of them.
If you want to selectively edit out what you don't want, keep them and manually edit your contact.
