How to synchronize iPad with an existing iTunes Library

Hye to all,
I've got the following issue (strage to a new Apple user having Windows backgroud):
after reinstallation my Win7 PC (only System Partition updated) the old iTunes Library (stored on my Data Partition) and automatically created by previously connecting my iPad to the PC is not longer recognized any.
I've tried the trick to start iTunes with the SHIFT key pushed simultaneously, but seems like iTunes really wants to delete my iPad content in order to do the synchronization. I do not really understand this behaviour since the iTunes Library ist untouched at all by the Win7 installation.
Can somebody give me a piece of advice regarding this issue?
Thx in advance for any help!

  • How do I sync my iPad with a new iTunes library without erasing all the previously purchased apps & data on my iPad?

I'm sure this is a common issue, and I've google-searched for solutions but I cannot find a straight forward answer anywhere. I really hope an expert here can help me out.
I purchased an iPad last year and synced it with my iTunes library on my old PC laptop. Well, my PC laptop harddrive crashed last week and I cannot access anything on my laptop anymore. I did not make a back-up for my PC harddrive either. I know, next time I should make a back-up and I will. But that's irrelevant. The PC is gone now.
I replaced my PC this week with a brand new Mac Book Pro. Excited about my new purchase, I quickly hooked up my iPad with the hopes of easily transferring and accessing my iPages, iNumbers, and other productivity iPad apps seamlessly to my new beautiful Mac Book Pro. But now I've run into the nightmarish dilemma of not being able to sync my beloved Ipad with my new MAC without getting the warning that basically says "your iPad is already synced with another iTunes Library. You may only sync to one iTunes Library at a time. You will lose all your data if you sync to this new computer."
Can someone give me a straightfoward answer as to how I can sync my iPad with my new iTunes Library on my new Mac Book Pro without losing any of the apps that I previously purchased? I want to be able to access the apps I downloaded on my iPad on my Mac Book Pro.
    Thanks so much!!!!!!

While it isn't as easy to just use a Mac iDevice as media storage as Android and Windows, you can add documents and such like Word, PDF and others manually in iTunes to have them sync as well.

  • I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone as well, will I be able to sync my iPhone with my existing iTunes library?

Hi, I have an iPod touch and am thinking of getting an iPhone to use as well, will I be able to use them both from the same computer or will there be some problems?

Yes.  There is no limit to the number of iPads, iPods, or iPhones you can sync with one computer, iTunes library, or account.  See this article for different ways to manage multiple devices.

  • I would like to erase my ipod touch and then resync it with my existing itunes library, is this possible?

I have a ipod touch that has a different library on it from an old (no longer usable) computer. I have another itunes library on my laptop that is very similiar but not exactly the same as the one on the ipod. Can I erase the ipod and sync it to the existing itunes library on this computer?
And once I do that can I also load my itunes library from my ipod to my new mac??
    thanks

You can restore (via iTunes on your computer) your iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and sync it to any library you want.
You can transfer iTunes purchases from an iPod to any computer w/iTunes by:

You can use one of the third-party programs discussion this previous discussion to transfer non-iTunes purchases to a computer:

  • How to sync photos currently on ipad with new pc/itunes library?

Hi - old laptop crashed and just got new pc. how do i get photos on ipad onto new itunes library? thank you!

Read this thread for help. Apparently you need a 3rd party app to transfer photos from the iPad to your PC.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12969179&#12969179
I just found this as well. I didn't read it closely, but maybe you don't need a 3rd party app after all. Read it closely. There is a section for transferring to a Windows PC.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
I tried the Apple Support advice. It will only work for the Saved Photos on your iPad - not the ones that were previously in your iTunes library. You DO need an app to transfer those.

  • HT202213 what steps do I need to set up a new pc with my existing itunes library?

I just purchased a new PC.  I have itunes set up on my old PC.  How can I bring iTunes into my new pc?  Do I need to start with installing/downloading iTunes and then transfer over the libraries?

    Additionally...
These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
If you have an iOS device that syncs with contact & calendar data on your computer you should migrate this information too. If that isn't possible create a dummy entry of each type in your new profile and iTunes should offer to merge the existing data from the device into the computer, otherwise the danger is that it will wipe the information from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • How to add link with mp3 to iTunes library?

I purchased a song which is actually a link ending in mp3. I want to save it to my itunes library, but when I highlight and right-click on it, it only gives me the option to "save as itunes spoken word." Also how do I make itunes as my default audio player instead of Quicktime?
I am using Mac OS 10.7.4 and itunes 10.6.3.

    Jim,
I appreciate your quick response. I'm not able to do what you suggest. The only way to "select" it, since it is a URL ending in mp3, is to highlight it in Quicktime, which is the program that opens when I click on the URL from the website I downloaded the audio file from. From there I can't figure out how to paste it/get it over to itunes by importing it or selecting from another file, and I cannot figure out how to make itunes the default audio program to open all audio files from the internet.

  • Setting up new iPod with my existing iTunes library?

    Hello all --
This may be a simple question, but I just wanted to play it safe. My original iPod (a classic) has more or less died, so I think I'm going to have to buy a new one. I have a rather large iTunes library and want to make sure I can move my song collection to my new iPod (I haven't purchased it yet).
Is there any trick to it? Or, once my computer recognizes the new iPod, can I just simply click-and-drag the songs to the new, empty iPod?
I'm not going to lose any songs, right? The last thing I'd want to do is have to copy all of my songs from my CD to my computer again.
Please let me know. Thanks so much!

You just connect the new iPod. iTunes will actually bring up a dialog asking if you want to sync your iTunes library to the new iPod, and let you name the iPod.
once my computer recognizes the new iPod, can I just simply click-and-drag the songs to the new, empty iPod?
If you want to do it manually and set the iPod to +manually manage music+, you can. Just say no when iTunes asks if you want to sync. But I suggesting using the automatic sync, unless you have a reason for using the manual "drag and drop" method.
Also, you should go into the iPod DEVICE tabs (in iTunes) to set up how you want to handle videos, podcasts, contacts, etc.

  • IPad with a second iTunes library sync: all apps don't work any more...how can I fix the problem?

I was used to sync my iPad (iOs 4.3.5) with my main personal computer (with windows 7 64 bit on it) but after the pc went off I synchronized the iPad to my laptop (windows vista 32 bit) just for searching iOs update...the result was that any apps work anymore!!!!! How can I fix the problem?
    Thank you in advance,
    Paolo

If it's happening on all the apps that you've downloaded from the App Store, but not the Apple built-in ones, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted.
If it's happening on all apps then try closing them all completely and then see if they work when you re-open them : from the home screen (i.e.not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close them, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • HT1349 Added a new (additional) computer to my home network.  How do I get my current, existing iTunes library to appear on the new computer?

I just added a new computer (additional device) to my home network, then followed the steps to share the device.  Can't see my iTunes music library.  What did I do wrong?

  • How to use "Notes" on my iPad with my existing iCloud address?

How to use "Notes" on my iPad with my existing iCloud address? It asks me to create a new one...

Did I overlook some critical info here? I'm having the same problem described by Henry5, but I'm signed in to iCloud with my AppleID which is not the same as my Mobile Me/iCloud email. I keep being asked to create an account (which it won't allow me to do since the account already exists) but no where do I see an option to use the existing account. I also tried logging out with my AppleID account, and using the iCloud email, but that doesn't work.
I just want to sync my notes and mail... this is really irritating!
