How to synchronize my Imac at work and macbook at home

I use a iMac at work and just got a Macbook to use at home. I am wondering if there is a way to make the two computers synchronized to each other, such as folders, files...
Also, I want to get the 10.6 for my new Macbook, but my iMac still runs 10.5. Can I still make them synchronized if they are running different versions of OS?
Thanks!

you can not completely sync two computers. for syncing particular data folders, mail, ical and addess book data you can use mobileme. if you just need to sync some data folders you can use something like DropBox

Follow these instructions step by step to prepare a Mac for sale:
Step One - Back up your data:
           A. If you have any Virtual PCs shut them down. They cannot be in their "fast saved" state. They must be shut down from inside Windows.
           B. Clone to an external drive using using Carbon Copy Cloner.
              1. Open Carbon Copy Cloner.
              2. Select the Source volume from the Select a source drop down menu on the left side.
              3. Select the Destination volume from the Select a destination drop down menu on the right
                  side.
              4. Click on the Clone button. If you are prompted about creating a clone of the Recovery HD be
                  sure to opt for that.
Destination means a freshly erased external backup drive. Source means the internal
                   startup drive.
Step Two - Prepare the machine for the new buyer:
              1. De-authorize the computer in iTunes! De-authorize both iTunes and Audible accounts.
2, Remove any Open Firmware passwords or Firmware passwords.
              3. Turn the brightness full up and volume nearly so.
              4. Turn off File Vault, if enabled.
              5. Disable iCloud, if enabled: See.What to do with iCloud before selling your computer
Step Three - Install a fresh OS:
         A. Snow Leopard and earlier versions of OS X
              1. Insert the original OS X install CD/DVD that came with your computer.
              2. Restart the computer while holding down the C key to boot from the CD/DVD.
              3. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu; repartition and reformat the internal hard drive.
Optionally, click on the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              4. Install OS X.
              5. Upon completion DO NOT restart the computer.
              6. Shutdown the computer.
         B. Lion and Mountain Lion (if pre-installed on the computer at purchase*)
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because
it is three times faster than wireless.
              1. Restart the computer while holding down the COMMAND and R keys until the Mac OS X
                  Utilities window appears.
              2. Select Disk Utility from the Mac OS X Utilities window and click on the Continue button.
              3. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click
on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
              4. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on the Security button
and set the Zero Data option to one-pass.
              5. Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
              6. Quit DU and return to the Mac OS X Utilities window.
              7. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
              8. Upon completion shutdown the computer.
*If your computer came with Lion or Mountain Lion pre-installed then you are entitled to transfer your license once. If you purchased Lion or Mountain Lion from the App Store then you cannot transfer your license to another party. In the case of the latter you should install the original version of OS X that came with your computer. You need to repartition the hard drive as well as reformat it; this will assure that the Recovery HD partition is removed. See Step Three above. You may verify these requirements by reviewing your OS X Software License.

  • I'm on an iMac for work and I'm having network/user account issues?

I'm on an iMac for work and have my own user account.  I usually shut down the mac at the end of the day.  Recently, in the morning its started to not let me login at all.  When I enter the *correct* password, the box does the shakey thing and not let me in.  The IT people here are primarily PC, but they've discovered if I unplug the network cable for a couple seconds and plug it back in, it will then accept my password and let me in.  It only happened once in awhile, now it happens every time I log off and try to log back onto my user account.  What is causing this and why do I need to constantly unplug and replug the network cable?

You can red this article about transfering your tunes - http://www.myfirstmac.com/index.php/mac/articles/how-do-i-move-my-itunes-library -from-pc-to-mac-and-keep-my-settings-intact

  • I have two time capsules, one for work and one for home, how do I set up the work time capsule to only back up my work files?

I have two time capsules, one for work and one for home, how do I set up the work time capsule to only back up my work files?  Also, how do I add co-workers to my work time capsule and wife to my home time capsule?  Thank you!

You cannot have two different TC setups.. at least until Mountain Lion.. it did introduce some changes but I am not sure if you can setup two different configurations for TM.. you can use two different devices to back up to. I doubt this will help you.
You might be better using a real backup software.. superduper, CCC, chronosync etc.
The TC by default is available to any Mac in the network to do backups. TM will sort itself out and put each computer on a different backup. These are kept in separate sparsebundles.. so that is all fine.

  • How to synchronize between DHCP binding table and DHCP snooping table ?

I clear DHCP snooping table with command "clear ip dhcp snooping binding " , and PC can't communicate with other any more. So how to synchronize between DHCP binding table and DHCP snooping table ?
    dhcp-test#sh ip dhcp bind
IP address Client-ID/ Lease expiration Type
    Hardware address
    99.1.65.32 0100.1125.353c.25 Mar 02 1993 01:05 AM Automatic
    99.1.65.33 0100.1438.059f.85 Mar 02 1993 12:01 AM Automatic
    dhcp-test#sh ip dhcp snooping binding
MacAddress IpAddress Lease(sec) Type VLAN Interface
    Total number of bindings: 0
    thanks!

ip dhcp snooping binding mac-address vlan vlan-id ip-address interface interface-id expiry seconds
Add binding entries to the DHCP snooping binding database. The vlan-id range is from 1 to 4904. The seconds range is from 1 to 4294967295.
Enter the above command for each entry that you add
To delete the database agent or binding file, use the no ip dhcp snooping database interface configuration command. To reset the timeout or delay values, use the ip dhcp snooping database timeout seconds or the ip dhcp snooping database write-delay seconds global configuration command. To renew the database, use the renew ip dhcp snooping database privileged EXEC command.

how can i can connect imac 24 pouce and macbook to use the screen of the imac ?

You can't. It requires a 2009 or later 27" iMac to use Target Display Mode. You could try using software like ScreenRecycler.

  • After downloading ISO8 my USB Ports on my IMAC arnt working and now my iPad2 will not charge?

after downloading ISO8 my USB Ports on my IMAC arnt working and now my iPad2 will not charge? even tried to use 240v charger? both my iMac and iPad have been updated, my mini iPad is working on old iso7 so that won't be updated in a hurry, any help would be great.

First is the most USB ports do not provide enough power to charge an iPad. Do not try and charge your iPad from such USB ports.
There is no 240v charger. There is one charger that will work with US voltages and European voltages. If your iPad is not charger with the charger, make certain that is an iPad charger, not an iPhone charger. If the charger does not work try swapping the cable as the cable may be bad. If that does not work try another charger. All simple steps that should be attempted before pinning the problem on IOS 8.

  • How do you sync the iPhone, iPad and MacBook calendar in one calendar.

How do you sync the iPhone, iPad and MacBook calendar in one calendar?

Iphone 5 seems unable to sync calendars with ITunes! The genius bar set mine to sync via Icloud, but it only worked once (?).
Finally I fixed it like this.
First, I merged the multiple calendars from ICal thanks to http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_merge_ical_calendars and I called it “only.”
Second, I unchecked the gmail calendar (seems iCloud had a problem with it): On the Iphone, open the calendar, go to the bottom of the page, click on calendars and uncheck the gmail calendar. Click Done.
Third, every time I want to sync, I go to the Iphone  Settings, iCloud, and uncheck calendars. I respond “keep on my Iphone”. Then, check calendars on again, click merge, and.… voila!

I would like to start fresh with a new firefox for my work only so I can keep my work related bookmarks etc separate from my at home browsing.

Yes - are you wanting to run 2 profiles on the same machine? See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles on how to create a new profile. You then just choose which profile you want to use each time you open Firefox.

I have a new iMac using Pages and Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. for mac.  I'd like to transfer older ClarisWorks and AppleWorks files to my new computer.  Can this be done?

Additionally, Numbers can read/open spreadsheets. However, anything done in the drawing/painting part cannot be read by any application - you would have to export those (on the old machine) as a .jpg or pdf. You could then open them, but no longer edit or change the content.
