How to take low-res pictures?

Is there a way to set the resolution lower? Because sometimes I just want a quick snapshot and I dont need 2MP for that.

They have a prioritized list of features to add. They can't get to them all. You can resize your pictures after you get them onto your computer if you want to eventually save disk space and bandwidth.
I certainly hope "cut/copy/paste" is way, way higher up the list than "allow lots of camera settings".

Low res pictures on iphoto

i have been trying to develop digital pictures from my iphoto library and when i develop them with snapfish or walgreens they are blurry (i.e. low res/low pixels). it's not the camera b/c i developed the same pics months ago and they were fine.
is there a way to change the resolution of the photos in my iphoto library? also, does it matter how many pics i have stored?

Just to be sure, check iPhoto's Preferences > Advanced and look where it says "Importing: copy files to iPhoto Library folder when adding to library." As long as there IS a checkmark in that box, you are running iPhoto in its default mode and all should be well. If that box has been UNchecked, please reply (and disregard the following), as there are some very big differences with the library in that case.
Once you have imported the photos into iPhoto it is safe to delete them from the camera. As long as you haven't deleted them in iPhoto or trashed the files in iPhoto Library/ Originals they are still there. You can check the size of the photos that are in your library. Click the little i near the lower left corner of the iPhoto window to open the info pane. Select a thumbnail from your library, and you'll see its info, including pixel dimensions, in the info pane. To double-check, select a thumbnail and right-click (Control-click). Then choose "Show File" or "Show Original File" (for edited photos). A Finder window should open with the file already selected. You can use that window to trace the path of the file. If this doesn't work for you, please post back with your results.
Be careful that you don't make any changes to the files and folders inside the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder (or any other application). iPhoto is a database application and has its own filing system, which must be left alone. Always manipulate your photos using iPhoto, or export copies from the library for use outside of iPhoto. If you think you may have damaged your library, you can spot check your photos. See if they display with the size slider all the way to the right (largest size). Double-click to see if they open in Edit mode. Right-click and choose "Show File" to see if iPhoto knows where they are. If these things function, then your library is in good shape. If not, post back for the steps to repair it (or start fresh).
what you said about the data folder is exactly what i did. can you explain again what the best thing for me to do is.
Step by step:
Use iPhoto to select the photos you want to upload for printing.
Tip: Shift-click the first and last photo to select a contiguous range;
Command-click to select or deselect discontiguous photos.
Tip: It can be convenient to create an album to gather your photos, then Select All photos in the album.
From the iPhoto File menu choose Export, then be sure the "File Export" tab is selected. Set the Format, Size, and Name options. You'll want the full-size images for best printing. Click the Export button.
A new dialog box will open so that you can choose the location for the exported copies. The easiest, most convenient place is the Desktop. Click the Desktop icon, then click the "New Folder" button. (Too many loose files on the Desktop can crash the Finder.) Name the folder, click Create, then click OK to export the photos to that folder.
When you are logged onto your Snapfish or Walgreens account, select the Desktop folder as your source when uploading the photos for printing.
When the upload is complete, you can drag that Desktop folder into the Finder Trash and delete it. Exports are copies - iPhoto retains your files.
If you wanted to burn a CD to take to a developer, the process is very similar. You would export to a Desktop folder, then burn that folder to the CD. You can use this method to back up your photos to disc. A disc made this way will only contain the photos, with no keywords, album info, or other iPhoto Library structures. It can be used with a computer that does not run iPhoto.
If you want to create a backup disc that does retain the iPhoto albums, keywords, and other metadata, you burn it using the iPhoto Share > Burn command. A better backup method is to save the entire iPhoto Library folder to an external hard drive.

Just upgraded to Flickr Pro: How to reupload full res pictures from Aperture

Hi,
I've been exporing the Aperture sync feature with my Flickr Account for some time now and finally decided to get Flickr Pro. As I already have some albums synced, I'd like to reupload the full resolution picture to Flickr now from Aperture. Can somebody please explain how to do this? I don't want to delete my current albums and create new ones ... I hope there is somewhere an option to reupload the ful res pictures.

See if you can get your hands on a firewire cable, and another Mac. If so, target disk mode should solve your problems.

VZ Messages - unknown error and low res pictures

I just installed VZ Messages on my iPhone 5 with IOS8. The app shows an "unknown error" message that doesn't seem to have any effect but it's hard to tell. What is this?
Also, all of the pictures I receive are low quality. In the native IOS message app, the pictures look great. It doesn't matter who sends it to me, iPhone or Android. Is there a setting that should be changed?

Replace low res footage with high res?

Can anyone tell me or is there a tutorial that shows how to take low res preview footage and replace it with the high res files for final output? In my case the high res file names have slightly different numbers. Is there a way to just change them to match the preview footage and be done? Doesn't seem to work for me. Tried relinking with no luck. I get: "Incompatible file. The original file and new file have no shared media range.Relinked files must have the same media type, same frame rate, and similar audio channels as the original files, and must be long enough to cover all the clips that reference the files." Seems like this shoould be a slam dunk!

I was using archival footage and only had low res previews to work with. Now that the project is approved I can buy the actual footage and complete for output. Is this different from replacing watermaked low stock footage with unmarked high res? Should I have set up the time stamped low res as proxie? Please don't tell me I'm back to square one.....

Album artwork-how do i get rid of old low res images and get new artwork?

Before apple introduced the new artwork download, I spent ages searching the internet for album sleeves and copied them to itunes, but the quality of the images in some cases was very bad. I am trying to replace this artwork with the downloadable high quality images but I can't work it out. I have tried going to the itunes folder in the music section of the finder and deleting all album artwork and then starting a new album artwork download, but all my old crappy low res pictures turn up again after I have done it. Any clues please? I am sure I am missing something.

Select all the muisic you want to remove artwork from.
Right click - Get info.
iTunes willask if you wan tot edit info for multiple items at once. Click OK.
ONLY tick the box next to Artwork then Apply.
It should delete all artwork in those songs.

How can I force all photos to be stored only in low-res on my MacBook

From reading the description on the Preferences in photos it says
"Optimize Mac Storage - Store full resolution photos and videos in iCloud. Originals will also be stored on this Mac if you have enough storage space"
The last sentence here is a big issue for me. I don't know how my Mac tried to determine what 'enough' is but basically I need free space desperately and I need ALL photos to be stored in iCloud, and low-res versions only on my Mac. No ifs ... no buts. This works fine it seems on iOS devices but the amount of space saved on my Mac has been really poor.
Is there any way to do this?

Aperture makes it easy to move any Image's Originals from inside the Library to outside the Library, and from any directly-connected location outside the Library to another directly-connected location, and to move any Image's Original from outside the Library to inside the Library, at any time, singly or in batch.
Select the Photos container near the top of the Library Inspector. In the Browser, select all Images. Use "File ▹ Relocate Original", and select a destination and a Finder folder scheme. Moving 1.5 TB of files will take some time. Let it run.

How To: Low-Res Timecode Hi-Res?

hi guys.
would anybody be so kind as to explain what the timecode-based workflow should be like?
i mean something along the lines of working with QT proxy files off RED cameras, for example.
i'm just not familiar with the technique.
say, i'm editing the low-quality version of a footage (QT file) and when i eventually get hold of the hi-res material (another QT file) in a week's time, i don't want to go through the whole editing procedure again - just need to set the high quality video on top of the already edited low-res material.

First, it is my impression that using the RED proxies is generally frowned on... That's why they expanded the offering of ProRes codecs. But I digress...
What you're asking to do used to be referred to as off-line/on-line editing. Any more, it seems like those terms have additional meanings. The easiest way to do this is to create a clone of your high resolution source in the suitable resolution. Both the source and the clone need to have exactly the same file names. Then you store the Source off line and cut away on the clone as you like.
In the case of RED footage, you could perhaps use one of the RED proxies (but only after you read the first line of this post again) but I would still clone the original and get it off line and safe.
When you've got the show locked, you simply take the Clone files off line and bring the original Source files online, then re-link the project.
That's pretty much it.

Then, open iPhoto, and you have two ways to export photos:
1. Select the photos you want to copy to Desktop with Command key (or go to Edit menu > Select All, if you want to copy all photos), and then, drag them to the folder on Desktop.
2. Select the photos you want to copy to Desktop with Command key, go to File menu > Export, and follow the steps.

The only cable I can find with lightning and usb is the apple camera adaptor but it is £25 from Apple which is a bit expensive if it will not work. Some peoples reviews seem to say this will not work, I can not use the camera reader by Apple as this only takes SD cards and my camera takes XD and compact flash cards. I have realised that you cannot use this cable on a card reader which is a shame and means taking more cables on holiday with you and more likely to get lost. This is so frustrating as one of the reasons of buying the iPad was to use, to transport photos whilst away instead of having lots of cards which do get lost and damaged. I hope someone can help as there seems to be a lot of confusion as to what works in cases like this.

Check the App Store for apps that allow you to change the pixel dimensions of the photo. I use PhotoForge2 and it does a wonderful job of that by allowing you to move a slider to change the dimensions of the photo. Unfortunately Google purchased the company that made photoforge and it is no longer in the App Store. Thee are undoubtedly some other apps that will do what you want.

Screen Saver Built in Pictures are Low Res

I just purchased this 30" Cinema Display. Really like it a lot. I wanted to use the Beach or Forest screen saver. All the pictures are low res. Is there a way to get HD picts to replace those for a great looking screen saver. The originals are very grainy. I didn't install the software in the box as I don't believe with the new systems you need to. I am hooking it up to a MacBook Pro.

The size of the photographs used in the Beach, Forest, Cosmos, etc., slideSavers is 1024*768 and is obviously so on my 23" ACD, let alone a 30".
Interface Lift has some great hi-res wallpapers.
In the past, I've copied the Beach.slideSaver (/System/Library/Screen Savers) to the desktop, right clicked on the copy to "Show Package Contents", burrowed down to "Resources" to find the photos, trashed those jpegs and replaced them with my own. You can rename the slideSaver to *.slideSaver, copy it back to the folder from whence it came (authenticate) and/or to /Library/Screen Savers and you now have hi-res slideSavers of your choice.
