How to tell Address Book hacked and how to fix?

Someone said they received an email from us but we didn't send it. Looks like someone, somehow, intruded into our system and did this. Can this have been a one time intrusion or is my system corrupted? On the other hand, someone else that has our email address might have had their system violated and used our email address from there. How can I tell?
If it originated from our computer, how can I fix it?

Your computer was not hacked. Your mail service was compromised in some way. This is a common occurence these days. (Happened to me some time ago and my service provider admitted it happened on their end.)
You should immediately change your mail password (not the login password for your computer), the one you used when you set up your mail.

  • HT4759 Address book hacked and virus problem since using iCloud

Had my address book hacked, and virus emails sent to all since using icloud.  Help!! none available on line!

You're posting in the "iCloud on my Mac" forum, but your profile just says "PC"... are you accessing iCloud from a Mac or a PC? If it's a PC, they get hit by viruses that do this sort of thing all the time. If you're using a Mac, it's almost certainly not malware of any kind. In the latter case, see Someone is sending messages from my e-mail address!

  • How to Sync Address Book, iCal and Safari bookmarks with Blackberry Storm

I recently purchased a Blackberry Storm and have been trying to sync my Address Book, iCal and Safari bookmarks without any luck. I downloaded the PocketMac SyncManager from BlackBerry but the sync fails when I connect the Storm to my MacBook Pro. Any suggestions as to how one gets this to work?

I read that Mark/space had problems and wasn't working very good..

  • Why did my Address Book disappear and how can I get it back?

The Address Book application has simply disappeared on two of my MacBook Pros. I thought the first one (work laptop) was a fluke but now that it's happened on my own MacBook I think something is wrong.
The app is no longer available anywhere on my hard drive. It's as if I threw it away, but I didn't. I can't open any associated files, so I don't even know if the data has been preserved.
Can anyone help me figure out why it disappeared, where it went, and how to get it back, short of reinstalling OS X 10.5.8 (the version I'm currently using)? I want to upgrade to Snow Leopard (not Lion -- no one seems to like it), but I'd like to fix this problem first. And I can't upgrade on the work MacBook because I have to use the enterprise-approved OS version.
    Thanks!

Amy, is there a chance they could both be Syncing to another device that has the data erased?
What are the sizes & modification dates on the files you found?
Could be many things, we should start with this to be safe, though 2 different ones would seem unlikely to be this problem...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • How to mass-edit contacts in Address Book? and how to group them?

    Hi
I have many contacts I imported from Excel in csv or I hurriedly added to my Palm cellular, so as many phone numbers have the area code and others dont't. I would like to edit them, to have the area code in all of them. I could do that easily in excel, but a can't find an export option to do that. Who could suggest me a way?
Another thing is that a used smart groups to group my contacts, but I can't assign a color to each group, nor make Mail recognize contacts in incoming or outgoing emails as pertaining to one of those groups.
    Helps welcome.
    João

There is a shareware application Address Book Exporter which should allow you to export your contacts so that you can edit them in Excel and then re-import them.
No, you can't assign a colour to a group, whether smart or normal. If you would like Mail to colour the messages by group set up a rule for each group in Mail's Preferences/Rules. Each rule would be something like "If sender is a member of group Friends set background colour to green"

  • How to make address book larger and more readable?

extra large isn't big enough. is there a way to make the address book interface larger and more readable?

This won't cover the entire interface (although there is a somewhat experimental way to do that as well), but try quitting "Address Book.app" if it is running, opening "/Applications" > "Utilities" > "Terminal.app" and entering this command:<pre>defaults write com.apple.AddressBook ABTextSizeIncrement -int 10</pre>Then relaunch "Address Book.app". Substitute whatever integer value you prefer in place of "10" (the default sizes are 1, 2 and 3 respectively for "regular", "large" and "extra large").

  • How to sync  Address Book - Desktop and iPhone

    Hi!
Thank you in advance for you help.
This is the problem I've been experiencing with Os X 10.4-10.5 and now 10.6 so I think it's a problem of settings.
When I'm on the go, sometime I do any changes to a contact (i.e. changing name, company or number) on my address book on iPhone. After syncronizing it, on my MacBook I don't find that record changed but another record with the new details (so basically I have two record for the same person). It happens the same on my iPhone when I do changes on my desktop's Address Book.
    Ciao!

  • How can I delete ALL of my Address Book entries and start fresh?

Yes. I know that sounds extreme, but……
I use Outlook on a PC at my office, and I have an sbcglobal/Yahoo mail account. I look upon my office Outlook as my ultimate contacts list (over 1,100 entries) and my calendar.
I use the sbc supplied free Intellisync software to sync all of my calendar and contacts from my office PC into sbc/Yahoo. That way I actually get e-mail reminders of appointments, etc. in addition to my Outlook notifications. It is actually pretty nifty.
I have also successfully signed-on to my Yahoo account at home on my MAC and exported all of my contacts from Yahoo (which had been populated by the PC Outlook listings via Intellisync) onto my desktop and then imported them into Address Book. But I did that some time ago and now my Outlook listings have been updated rather substantially. I would like to able to do a complete re-install of the new and improved contacts from the Yahoo repository.
Again - I certainly do not want to delete the Address Book app itself – I just want to start with a clean slate so there are no conflicts or duplicate entries (which in fact is seemingly a bug in the Yahoo/Intellisync. Is there a way to completely wipe clean all of my Address Book entries?
    Thanks

    Hello Allan -
Your help on a previous post was great re: my wanting to know how to delete the Address Book contents so I can re-import an updated list form my office Outlook, via my yahho/sbcglobal import.
Well - here is an interesting quandary:
I have successfully exported my yahoo address book/contacts as a .vcf file Yet - once I have expunged the prior Address Book data and want to now import the NEW Yahoo data to rebuild the database it only takes (enters) the phone numbers and does NOT import ANY of the address information. I am positive I did this once since our original exchange and everything transferred just fine, but now….?!
What I cannot determine is where the fault may be: does the export NOT include the addresses (in which case I am doing something fundamentally stupid wit the export) or the vcf cards are complete, but Address Book is not “seeing” anything other than the phone #s and e-mail addresses.
    Any thoughts?
    Dazed and confused

my old email address was hacked and I am no longer able to access it. How can i reset my icloud ID without losing all of my pictures and more importantly contacts? I have created a new ID but i cannot seem to use it until I delete the old account

You need to use the old ID and password to delete the iCloud account. After you delete the old account, you can sign in with the new ID in iCloud.
    Have you seen this.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5796
    iCloud
iOS 6 and later: Go to Settings > iCloud.
If you signed out before changing your Apple ID, enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download to your device.
If you're still signed in with your previous Apple ID:
Scroll down and tap Delete Account. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked to confirm that you want to delete data from your device. To confirm, tap Delete. (If you're using iOS 7 and have Find My iPhone turned on, you'll be asked to enter the password for your previous Apple ID. Enter the password, then tap Turn Off.) The data will be deleted from your device, but not from iCloud.
Enter your current Apple ID to sign in. The data from your iCloud account will download again to your device.

  • How to sync Address book with iphone(iOS 6) and 10.7.4?

How to sync Address book with iphone(iOS 6) and 10.7.4

i'm having this issue too.  it's a bit more complex though i think so i'll give the details:
a few days ago i added some people to my contacts using my phone. the thing they have in common is they're all new contacts.
they synced over to my macbook address book ok.
then a few days later i had to do a full restore of my iphone for various reasons (the new one, already!) which i did. when i then looked in my iphone contacts, these contacts were no longer there. they WERE however, still in my macbook address book.
so i figured i'd switch icloud syncing off for contacts and then resync to get them back on my phone. it didn't work. so i then turned off icloud sync and tried a good old manual sync via itunes, making sure to check the box for syncing contacts.  it still didn't work.
now i'm at that odd place where the contacts are in my macbook address book but not in my phone and i can't seem to get them onto my phone (which is frustrating as ultimately they are phone numbers and in my phone is the best place for them!)
    any ideas?

    Thanx for any help!

    Hello,
if you need to sync your media files as well, you might want to have a look at FoneSync for Android. It features an iTunes like interface and syncs contacts, calendars, music and photos.
    Kind regards

  • How to migrate Address book and Stickies without using Migration Assistant

Can anyone direct me on how I can copy over my address book and all of my stickies from one OSx HDD to a new HDD?
I noticed when I went into the Migration Assistant, that some of the options were greyed out such as "Other Data" in my profile and seemed to be pretty huge. So I don't want to use the Migration Assistant because I did a clean install on this machine and I am worried about migrating garbage from my old installation.
    Thanks.

    Hi
With Address Book you can simply open the application, go to File/Export/Address Book Archive, and save. To import on the target Mac/Installation go to File/Import/Address Book Archive.
If the system has become a non bootable system but you can mount the drive then simply go to the relevant users home folder ~/Library/Application Support/ and copy the Address Book folder to the same location on the target Mac/Installation.
For Stickies data simple go to the relevant users home folder ~/Library/ and copy the file entitled StickiesDatabase to the same location on the target Mac/Installation.

  • How to recover address book and all mailbox data

How to recover address book and all mailbox data, from mounted drive that had OS10.4.11 now has bad blocks, and is not boot-able.
Any help would be appreciated.... hermann

The drive is mounted (appears as a drive on the desktop)? You can't just copy the files, or is it not really mounted?
It would help to have more details on the status of this drive since I am obviously confused as to whether or not it is mounted and appears on the desktop. Is this an internal or external drive? If internal, how are you booting your computer now?
There are data recovery tools such as [Data Rescue II|http://www.prosofteng.com/products/data_rescue.php] or [FileSalvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1]. Both have free trial versions that let you see if the software will help before you decide to buy. You will also need a second hard drive equal to or larger in size than your first drive as a destination drive for recovered files. If the critical files are located on the bad blocks then there isn't much hope other than to send the drive out to a professional data recovery service which could cost $1000.
The easiest way to recover the files is to get them off a backup drive.
