How to tell how much space your checked songs take up?

Trying to determine how much space my checked music will take up on my iphone.... any ways of quickly checking that on 10.7?

Assuming a mix of song lengths and 256kbps media an average of around 10Mb per song is reasonable.  700 songs at that size would be around 7Gb* .. though obviously this would vary based on the types of song you have ... lots of 2 minute classic singles would make it less, 700 live versions of the Grateful Dead's "Dark Star" would make it a lot more!
* I was curious whether my estimate was correct so selected a group of folders within my iTunes library and used Windows Explorer to show number of files and data size - 704 files, 7.00Gb exactly

  • How much space does 1 song take up if it is in multiple playlists?

If I have one song in multiple playlists on my iPhone, does it take up for disc space, or is there a single file that playlist utilizes once the song is queued? Thanks. If it's not obvious, my objective is to free up disc space.

An entry in a playlist is just a pointer to a single copy of a track, so you can have a given track in multiple playlists and it won't take up any extra space.

  • How much space does time machine take up on hard drive?

Can anyone let me know how much hard drive space time machine takes up?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
Time Machine keeps copies of everything on your system (except a few things like system work files, most caches and logs, and trash), so the first backup will be a bit smaller than the amount of data on your system.
Subsequent backups will copy things you've added or changed, but doesn't delete the copies of the old versions, or of things you've deleted, so you can restore them if you find you've deleted or changed something in error, or something has gotten corrupted. Thus Time Machine will need considerably more space. IIn most cases, it won't delete it's copies until it runs out of room.
It varies depending on how you use your Mac, but a "rule of thumb" is, it needs 2-3 times the space of the data it's backing-up to be able to keep a reasonable "depth" of backups for you.
You might want to review the [Time Machine Tutorial|http://www.apple.com/findouthow/mac/#timemachinebasics] and perhaps browse [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum).

    Hi.
I know an integer primitives takes 32 bits
how many bits does the java boolean takes up. 2 bits
also, would it be the same as the Boolean object ?
Anyone can help answer this question ? thank you :)Why 2 bits? One bit is enough, but I doubt this would be an
efficient way to store it from an access time point of view.
I think it should take some minimum number of full bytes that
are eficiently accessible on a given architecture(4 or perhaps 2 or 1). The language specification does not prescribe any particular size.
Allocate yourself a huge boolean[] and check the increase of size of the
VM, this should give you an idea. Boolean, on the other hand, is an object, pretty sure it's a small one (as small as a boolean), but the overhead of a Boolean[] should be bigger (the objects and the references to them).

  • Can you monitor how much space the site takes up?

I'm building my website and I don't have server space yet. Before I buy some, I want to know how much space my site would take up on said server.
I'm probably going to host my videos elsewhere, but I have a lot of photos on the site and I don't know if iWeb automatically reformats them to be smaller files. If it doesn't, those pictures will add up.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Publish the site to a folder, and then check how much space the folder takes up in the Finder.

  • How much space does iOS takes?

    Dear Apple Support Community,
I want to know how much space does the iOS takes (installed) on a default iPhone 4 for all it's versions (eg. latest iOS 3, latest iOS 4 and iOS 5).
Watching the 2011 WWDC keynote on iOS 5, you will see a handful of new functionalities being added that will take the user experience even further, which is great!
But if you have minimum technical background, you know that more features means more lines of code, and this WILL take some extra space on your device. Also, iOS is an ever-changing product distributed over the web, but the iPhones have always the same hard-fixed ammount of storage space (only changes if you buy a new device).
This is what I'm looking for:
    iOS 3.5.1 -> 1,2 Gb
    iOS 4.3.3 -> 2,1 Gb
    iOS 5.0.0 -> 2,9 Gb
** those are fictitious values, most probably not the actual ones **
Important: I'm just curious about it, I don't find this being a big issue as 16 or 32 gb of space is pretty much. Even if the OS takes 2~3 gigs out of it, there's still plenty space for everything you need on the go.
    Thank you very much!!

    Something like 660MB, apparently:

  • How much space does ios6 take on iPhone4

Considering iphone 4s, Will 16GB be enough?  How much space does the OS take?

iOS uses roughly ~ 1GB for the system partition, with roughly 800MB's actually used, depending on iOS version.

  • How much space does OS X Mountain Lion take?

I am considering a MacBook Air 128 GB for my next laptop, but I'm not sure if that's enough. How much space does the OS take up?

OS X Mountain Lion, without any third-party app, takes about 9 GB of hard disk. The minimum requirement is 8 GB of hard drive space, so if you have to store a lot of data, you may have to buy an external drive to store all the files you want

  • How can you tell how much space is taken by checked items?

I have a large iTunes library (over 270 gb) and managed what goes onto my 160 gb iPod using the checked items.  It took me a long time to get it right and I would make changes (unchecking items) to accomodate new songs as I loaded them.  Somehow recently I managed to lose that information so that now everything is checked and I need to start all over.  So two questions:
Is there anyway to "recover" what had been checked/unchecked at a given point in time?
And, what would be most useful, is there anyway to track the amount of space taken by checked items?
As to the last question, currently at the bottom is a status bar that tells you how many items, how much space and how many (days/hours) are taken by the full library.  It would be incredibly useful if that status bar also included the same information for checked items.  It would make it so much easier to manage the iTunes library content.

As above use playlists. If you really need to recover the checked/unchecked status from earlier in time then I have a script that can be tweaked to do this called ExportImport, as long as earlier in time is the last time your library database got archived into the Previous iTunes Libraries folder. It is currently set up to export and then import playcounts, but adapting it to do Checked would be quite easy.

  • How much space does all of my "checked" songs take up?

I now have more music than my iPod can hold. I had to uncheck the songs that I don't want transferred to the iPod. At the bottom of the screen in iTunes, it shows how many songs I have and how much disk space they take up, however, those values don't change when I uncheck songs. Is there a way to view those values only for my checked selections? This would be very helpful so I can get as much on my iPod as possible. Perhaps there is a way to sort by checked songs only?
To the iTunes programmers that browse these forums: THIS IS A MUST for the next version of iTunes. If it is already possible, make it easier for people to find!
    -Jonathan-

I use checked tracks for updating my iPod too. I find that this works better than the Smart Playlist method, for me.
In any case, if you don't have a video iPod, you may want to change your checked tracks playlist to have these rules as instead:
    Kind does not contain "video"
    Kind does not contain "movie"
This prevents videos you may download or add to iTunes from showing up in that list, since they won't be sent to non-video iPod's anyway.
One more thing: Every once in a while, you might want to make a "backup" of what your checked songs are. This way, if you are checking/unchecking songs and accidentally screw them up, you can restore your checkmarks easily. I do this before I make changed to what tracks I have checked. To do this, select that Checked tracks playlist, then in there hit CTRL-A to select all the songs. Now pick File->New Playlist from Selection. This creates a normal playlist with all those tracks. Name it something like "checked backup". Now, if you screw up your checkmarks, you can look at the library, uncheck everything (hold CTRL while unchecking something to uncheck all), then look at the backup playlist and check everything in that playlist (same deal, hold CTRL). This has the effect of restoring your checkmarks to their "backed up" state. Comes in handy.
