ok, this is rather complicated. A few months ago, when I was using a previous version of Skype, this is what happened: 1. The user appeared as "Away" 2. I could no longer view his number of contacts (though he could have switched this to private)3. His photo on my contact list was replaced entirely by the "Away" status symbol, but when I clicked his name, his profile photo still appeared4. His time zone and location still appeared5. There was no mood message, but I don't remember if he ever had one...6. Our message history still appeared 7. When I filtered my contact list to show only users who had shared contact information, he still appeared8. "Last seen" status was still visible, but it appeared that he was constantly "Away"...I never saw it updated... 9. Most of the time, my own profile would show 0 contacts, even though he appeared on my contact list Had he blocked or deleted me at that point? Recently, I had to download a new version of Skype, 7.8.2015, I believe and this is how he now appears: 1. His photo appears in my contact list, along with the "Away" status symbol2. His location appears, but still no number of contacts3. His time zone no longer appears4. No "last seen" status appears 5. Our message history is gone, but that could be due to downloading a new version of Skype6. When I filtered my contact list to show only users who had shared contact information, he still appears 7. Still no mood message, but again I can't remember if he ever had one...8. Now, my profile consistently shows 1 contact What is going on? Have I been blocked? Have I been deleted? Please help! Oh, there is something else I just noticed: under the number of my contacts, the number "1" is greyed out. Any meaning to that? Could he have deleted or abandoned his account? But then he would appear as "Offline", not "Away", no?

First, turn off using iCloud for your contacts. Go to:
Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendars --> (your iCloud account)
Switch "Contacts" to OFF.
You should get a dialog box asking you if you want to keep the contacts on the phone or not -- choose the option to keep them.
Now you can delete the iCloud account but retain the contact information.

How can I restore a contact which was deleted from Contacts?

I opened Contacts on OS X 10.9.1. I noticed there was a duplicate contact. I deleted the duplicate, then added some information to the remaining copy of the contact. I closed contacts. When I returned a few minutes later, the remaining copy was also gone, now I would like to restore it, but there is no information on how to do that.

I have Facetime on my iMac (27 inch with built-in camera, running OS 10.7.3).
If I try to use Facetime with my wife on her iPhone (where her number has a blue star by it), it connects and works fine. However, if I try to use Facetime to talk with with her through her new MacBook Pro (using her email address as the contact), Facetime reverts back to the phone number and calls her iPhone.
How can I force Facetime to contact her Macbook instead of her iPhone?

OK, I think I figured this out by myself. The short answer is that you cannot specify a particular device, unless you set up Facetime (or iMessage) only for that device. If you have multiple devices with the same Apple ID, they all respond to an incoming iMessage or Facetime call.
In my case, I've set up my iPhone, iPad, and Macs to use Facetime and iMessage with the same Apple ID. When someone wants to do a Facetime call with me, or send me an iMessage, all the devices respond simultaneously. It's kinda funny to hear the Phone, iPad, and iMac going off, telling me I have an iMessage, or asking me to accept a Facetime call. From there, I simply choose whatever device I want to use.
I would add that with iMessage, the way I have my gear set up, all the messages are synced, meaning I can be doing an iMessage chat on my iPad, stop for a while, and pick it up again on my iPhone -- the same message string will be in the Message app (synced by iCloud I assume). Anyway, it's kinda neat.

Yesterday I setup my mom's account for icloud so she could have the find my iphone app on her and my brother's account. They both share the same account, so when I set it up all of my mom's contacts went onto my brothers phone. After I deleted her contacts off of his phone, all of her contacts were gone on her phone. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get her contacts back because when I went onto icloud.com the contacts were also gone. I backed up her phone yesterday on icloud when she had her original contacts, but I'm afraid to erase all the content and settings on her phone and rely on the backup. Does the backup for icloud work? Or is there another way to find the contacts without erasing her content on her phone! PLEASE REPLY ASAP! Thanks

While I do believe that it's possible for a program to restore your contacts from an iTunes backup, (inapplicable in your iCloud backup situation) I doubt it can actually do it from the phone, once they are removed from the phone anything claiming to be able to recover them seems suspicious to me.

you can sync your contacts and things under your own itunes and your wife can have her own... or both in one as long as you have it synced in the same computer they will be there
if you name ur phones its easier to tell which is which
my husband kids and i all have our names and then iphone next to it and it creates a different backup for each and then we update and we restore from there it lets you choose which backup you want...

Selected guides should become light blue when they're selected. My guides are using the default color of cyan and the guide on the right is selected in the image below.
If you have your guides set to the light blue selection inside the Guides Color drop down menu then you won't see a difference because that specific light blue is the color the guide changes to when it's selected. Use your back up on your mac/PC and re-add your contacts to Address Book or whatever contact software you use.

I have multiple address books (gmail, Outlook, work, etc...).
As each address book has over 100+ entries, I look for contacts by searching (Simply starting typing their name!)
When viewing the contact, how can one tell which address book they belong to?
When I try editing, unable to edit which address book they belong to.
I'm sure I'm not the only one. Search here ... nothing yet ... at least I do not see it

Open the contact in question. At the bottom click on Links. It will tell you the contacts list(s) it belongs to.
