How to tell if an HF100 clip was shot in 30p or 60i?

I have a bunch of old HF100 footage that I want to re-edit. Trouble is, I can't remember which ones are 30p and which are 60i (I want to tag them differently with iMakeFullHD). Other than looking at them, is there some quantitative way of telling which is which -- either from the mts file metadata or from the imported iMovie 09 movie metadata?
Thanks!

  • How to see when a video clip was shot?

I imported a couple of projects from iMovie HD. iMovie HD would usefully show the date a clip was taken.
(There's "Playhead Info", but that shows the date of import - today!
I have all these old movie clips with no way to see when the video was shot. Where can I see a clip's date in '08?

Correction to original post: the Playhead Info doesn't show the date imported into iMovie 08, it shows the date imported from the camera into iMovie HD. Still completely useless!
I swear iMovie HD showed the date & time the footage was shot.
Oddly, I have one movie event showing the correct date, shot in 2000. All the other videos from 2004-2006 show 2007 as the date! I have no idea what is different about the two unless I used an even older iMovie to originally read the 2000 footage from tape.
I still have the tapes so I can try importing one of the 2004 tapes into '08 to see if it gets the date correct.

  • How to tell which Mac the iPod was synced to?

I recently found an old iPod classic from 2009.  The last time it was used was likely around 2013 and it works just fine.   I'd used the iPod on a few long flights and "favorited" a large number of songs that I'd like to preserve the ratings for.  I assume the best way is to resync the iPod but I can't recall which of my Macs this was synced to.
Is there some way to tell which Mac this iPod was synced with?
Failing that, is there a recommended way to pull some of the metadata for songs I've rated off the iPod?
    Thanks
    MM

Look in the serial number. It's the 4th and 5th digits. I believe week 38 and 39 are good. I have week 38 and have had no problems other than a few software glitches.

  • How can I up-rez footage that was shot in DV-widescreen into an HDV project

We were shooting an HDV project this past week and one of the cameras we used (a Canon HV-20) was set to "DV-Widescreen" mode instead of HDV when recording. Obviously, this is a big screw up on our part, but I know the footage can still be captured in Final Cut and then "up-rezzed" for use in our HDV project to match all our other footage that was shot in HDV mode.
The question is, what settings (or method) is the best way to do this in FCP?
    Thanks

Good to know about the Compressor looking better. I didn't know that information.
That said, if I do DV/NTSC it does capture it but it squashes the aspect ratio into a 4x3 frame. Because this was shot in DV "Widescreen" the original video image is 16x9. How do I import it so that doesn't happen and the 16x9 ratio is preserved?
Actually, I just watched that video and I need to know the answer to the above question regardless. Whether I use FCP or Compressor (and obviously I'll probably use the latter) I need my initial footage to be in it's original 16x9 aspect ratio. So how do I get that when digitizing it initially?

  • How to tell when my iPad 2 was built?

Is there some indicator somewhere, like with Mac serial numbers, that gives away "what week" my new iPad 2 was built?
It must have been relatively recently, because out of the box it was running iOS 4.3.2.
    Thanks,
    doug

    Hi, Nathan.
That provides some interesting info, but unfortunately not when it was built:
    Model:
    - iPad 2 (WiFi + 3G)
    Codename:
    Build Country:
    - We have no clue where your Mac was built.
    Build Year:
    - We could not verify the build year of this machine.
    Build Week
    Production Nr.:
    - Your device was number 1380 to be built that week

  • How to tell if/when AFP logging was disabled?

Is there any record kept anywhere in the logs as to whether AFP logging was disabled or enabled? We're missing some AFP logs so trying to track down the reason.

There is a Script that can determine that (for files that have been saved from Photoshop at least).
Unfortunately the copy I have carries no credits and I can’t locate it on the web, either, so I don’t know who to give credit for it …
That being said I could send it to You if you want to give it a try.

  • How to tell the real bitrate of DV files?

I am not a movie man, the closest thing I have is iMovie (and I never use that), but I have some DV videos which I took from an old camera (a lot like a VHS to digital conversion) and they all show as 57600 kbps. This cannot be.
I am advised that when converting that 8000 kbps would suffice, but how do I actually tell the real bitrate of the DV files when everything shows it as such?
    Thanks.

they all show as 57600 kbps
Where are you getting the above information from?
The originals are analog tapes converted to DV, right? How did your convert the signal -playing through a DV camera, signal converter box, etc? Please tell us the manufacturer and model too.
I am advised that when converting that 8000 kbps would suffice
There's a screenshot from QuickTime Player's Inspector window, showing the info for a DV clip here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10858497#10858497
That clip was shot on a high end Canon XL2 DV camera and plays perfectly.

  • How do I edit a merged clip in Audition, that was created in premiere to correct the synchronisation, and have it all updated to the premiere clip?

    Hello,
How do I edit a merged clip in Audition, that was created in premiere to correct the synchronisation, and have it all updated to the premiere clip?
I have tried several tutorials but these either:
    - show correction in premiere sequence (which is not practical; given the huge number of files we have)
    - or show the editing in audition of a sequence, not the clip.
We have started merging audio and video (removing the original audio during merge) but some of the merged clips are out of sync, so we need to correct manually, BUT we want to correct the merged clip, which may or may not end up being used, so we do not want to take it to the sequence as all we are doing is prepare the synced files for editing.
Any idea how I can correct the synchronisation in Audition?, when I right click on clip and select "Edit in Adobe Audition" I get a list of files but not a multitrack session where I can see my video and audio tracks.

if premiere pro doesn't sync your footage properly, and you have a huge number of files, you may want to look at pluraleyes.  there is a demo, and if it works properly, it would save you time to have it done right the first time, instead of tracking down random merged clips with bad sync.
premiere will either export a complete sequence or "edit clip in audition". the edit clip will create a copy of the original audio and open that in audition. there is no dynamic link, its just an audio file open in two programs at the same time.  since there is no dynamic link, its not possible to bring merged clips into audition.
Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Synchronizing audio and video with Merge Clips
Once created, the merged clip cannot be re-synchronized, or adjusted. You must make a new merged clip.
Merged clip audio results in mono track audio only.Final Cut Pro XML and AAF interchange formats are not supported.
this doesn't give me much hope that audition or any other adobe program outside of premiere will help you fix the problem merged clips.

  • How to tell a swf file in web was made by flash or flex?

the swf file in web, how to tell it was made by Flash or
    Flex? accurately!

Im not sure, but I would think that right now the main way to
tell the difference would be to find out if it requires Flash
Player 8.5 or not. Currently, Flash swfs only go to 8.0. Another
way is to look at the source of the HTML file. I notice that Flex
puts an incredible amount of code into the HTML file.

How can I tell what week my computer was manufactured? My serial number is [..snipped...]. Week 19 translates to what month?

Someone, somewhere could theoretically, trace your serial number to your name, address and maybe even how you paid for your computer. I recently had my identity cloned in Mexico. I wouldn’t think of posting any unnecessary information on any website. But that’s just me.

There is only a limited amount of Compressor instruction available unless you purchase a subscription to something like Lynda.com or a tutorial from Ripple or Larry Jordan.
My advice to everyone who is interested in learning about Compressor is to read the first two chapters of the user manual – on basics and workflows. Those should provide enough of an understanding to cover the majority of things users need Compressor to accomplish. Of course there is plenty more for those who want to explore.
Here is a short write-up from Ken Stone on changing frame rates.
    Good luck.
