How to tell if my ipod charger is broken, or my ipod itself is broken?

Recently, I've been trying to charge my ipod.
I bought one from best buy a few months ago that plugs into the wall, and I never had a problem.
When I plug it into the wall or my computer it doesn't charge.
At all.

Have you tried putting your iPod in Disk Mode, then connecting it to your computer again? For more info, read here -> Putting your iPod into Disk Mode
This may be a case of drive letter confusino in Windows. Follow these steps below to try assigning your iPod a different drive letter
Log off of any other users on your computer.
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet.
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).

How to tell when it is charged.

I just plugged my ipod into the usb port to charge,and the front light is blinking orange. Does that mean it's charging? And if so, will the front light turn green when it is done charging?
The reason why I'm asking this is because when my ipod is disconnected and I push the battery light button,it's green. I was just wondering if the front and battery light are supposed to be that color when it's charged as well.

"When the battery is charging, the iPod shuffle status light is amber. When the battery is fully charged, the light is green until you disconnect iPod shuffle. ...
Note: If iPod shuffle is being used as a disk (see page 18), the status light blinks amber continuously. "

The battery status light gives you an indication of the charge level of the battery... page 17 of the iPod Shuffle User Guide:
"If the battery status light is green when you press the battery status button, iPod shuffle has a good charge. If the light is amber, iPod shuffle is low on charge, and if it’s red, very little charge is left and you should recharge iPod shuffle soon. If no light is visible, the battery is out of power and you must recharge iPod shuffle to use it. "

Can I use my G3 ipod charger with my new G5 ipod?

I have just bought a new G5 ipod (80gig). As the new ones no longer ship with a charger in the box I was wondering whether I can still use the one that came with my old gen 3 ipod. The G3 charger is for a firewire connection and the G5 is now usb but if I connect the new ipod to the charger using the firewire cable that came with the G3 ipod using the dock connection will this work, or more importantly, do any damage. The link up would be : charger with firewire socket - firewire to dock cable- new 5G ipod dock connection socket.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. The appointment is free.

Apple could not tell you who else might be using your credit card, so there's no point in trying to contact them. All they could discuss with you is your own iTunes Store account, and if there's nothing in your purchase history, the charges almost certainly aren't coming from there. Again, you should take this up with your bank/credit card company and report these charges as fraudulent. They probably will cancel your card and issue you a new one.

My mistake, it was nothing to do with format. It woldn't sync because my movies were HD. HD movies won't sync to an iopd classic 160 GB but when you purchase a HD movie, itunes gives you a SD vervsion of the movie which is compatible with the ipod. Just needed to go to store, click movies, click purchased and untick the HD box and there you have the SD versions. Download the SD versions and then sync your ipod and bobs you uncle, movies are on the ipod

To eject iPod:
Select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
Click the eject icon next to the iPod in the Source list or choose Eject iPod from the Controls menu.

My ipod charges fine, but it all of a sudden just stopped telling me when it was charging, i plug it in and the screen turns itself off instead of changing to the screen that has the picture of the battery and how full it is, it also does not show up on the corner battery picture that doesnt change either. what do i do? how do i fix it?

Did you already try to reset the ipod by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches after installing new apps of software.

Apple does not specify any special initial charging time. I would use the iPod without charging if the indicator indicates about 50% or greater. There is no % battery on the iPod. You just have to look at the battery icon in upper right and judge the % battery.

Have two a1299 and two a1399.
Three made by Emerson and one by Salcomp.
One a1399 by Emerdon has Apple symbol near earth pin. None of the others has the Apple symbol.

I have a couple genuine of european chargers and one if done by Flextronics and the other by Salcomp (models A1400). None of them have the apple symbol and all say "Designed by Apple in California". Try to search for pictures and compare, sometimes it´s hard to tell.
@joeyman2 FYI Apple's charger are done in China by other companies. Just search for images in the internet (search for the Apple replacement program for A1300) and you will see in the downright corner that it says Flextronics.
