How to tell the quality/status of the tracks in my Match library?

Like many people, I'm sure, my history with digital music has been one of constantly raising the bit rate/quality of my music files.
I started ripping my cd's at 192, then moved to 256 vbr, then 320 vbr, and most recently to lossless. (Almost all the tracks in my library have been ripped from CD's, or bought from other digital services (eg Amazon) not purchased through iTunes).
Ideally, when 'Matching' I would have ben able to tell iTunes to match tracks where Apple have a higher quality file than is in my library, but where my copy is higher, to upload my copy to the cloud. Well, of course Apple would never give user this much control/flexibility, so I don't really know which ones are matched & which uploaded.
I think I'm supposed to know this from the iCloud icon in iTunes, but they pretty much all say 'error uploading', even though they are available in Match, so I don't really know what this means. On my iPhone, I don't think I have any way of telling the qualit of the file available in iCloud. I think I have about 13k tracks in my library.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to see the quality of the file in Match? And if it's possible to create playlists where the highest quality source is chosen?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi Jim - thanks so much for your detailed & helpful reply. I actually do already have those columns shown in my playlist views - my problem is that I don't believe what they are showing!
For instance, out of my c.13k tracks, my smart playlists count:
Matched - 42
Ineligable - 46
Purchased - 15
Not Matched - 121
Uploaded  - 27
Error - 13,060
When I first started using Match it spent several days uploading tracks, and now is having another incremental go, and showing 325 of 1464 Uploaded.
Ah - that's interesting - I just looked at my 'iCloud Matched' playlist on my iPhone, and it says there are 11,876 tracks in it, even though iTuns on my MacBookpro shows 42! But then my iPhone also shows 11,876 in the 'iCloud Error' list. And in my 'Ineligble' list. And my 'Purchased' list...so who knows! Which was the thinking behind my original query.
But I do appreciate your reply Jim, which has been helpful even with the above situation.
Cheers,
Mark

  • How to tell the current patchlevel

    Hello,
    does anyone know how to tell the curent patchlevel by for example using DI API or a select on SBO-Common?

    Hi,
    If what you are looking for the pachlevel for a DI API dll, then you can obtain it from the SAPbobsCOM.dll by right clicking the file in the Explorer and selecting properties -> Version tab -> Product Version & Special Build Description.
    In the SINF table of SBO_COMMON you can see the current B1 version.
    In the SRGC table of SBO_COMMON you can see the different companies you have defined + the version of each company.
    Hope it helps
    Trinidad.

    I have multiple users on my Mac and I was wondering how you tell the system to retain all the user names so they don't have to enter their email addresses every time ???

    Email addresses into what?
    Each user should have their own account and password to log in.  Each is independent of the other.  So for Mail each has their own Mail account if they set one up in Mail.
    That's the way it should be set up.  Are you using a single account and allowing multiple users to use that one single account?  If so then in Mail at least you could set up individual mail accounts.  But everything else in the system is shared.

    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
    If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
    Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

  • My Grandson has had his ipod touch stolen. The tracker device shows it in a front garden of another road - but it isn't. How accurate is the tracker device please?

    My Ipod touch has been stolen. The tracker shows it to be in a  front garden of a road nearby. But it is not there. How accurate is the tracker deviceand should I report it to the police please?

    The iPod touch does not have GPS, so the location accuracy is greatly reduced. It relies on the known location of nearby WiFi networks. As WiFi networks can extend for 100m or so, the iPod could be anywhere within a 100m radius of whichever WiFi router it is connected to.

  • How to tell the version of WRVS4400N

    How can I tell if I have a V1 or V2.  I bought what was advertized as a WRVS4400N V2, but the firmware shows as V1.  Given that the firmware was a V1 I only applied the V1.1.13 firmware update.  Can I use the V2 firmware upgrade on this model.   After installing the V1.1.13 firmware and changing the password I get asked to enter credentials every time I click something and many times it may ask 10 or 15 times before it displays.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The firmware version and the hardware version generally have nothing to do with each other. The firmware version tells the version of the software running on the router. The hardware version tells the version of the hardware built into the router.
    You must make sure that you only upgrade your router with firmware which is compatible with your router. The exact hardware version and model is printed on the label underneath the router. If it says WRVS4400N V2 there then you have a V2 router. If it shows shows no version number after the model name you have a V1 router.
    The version number of the firmware is not related with the hardware version. The latest version for a V2 router could be 1.50 and the latest version for a V1 router could be 4.30. Still would not make a change that you should only use firmware for a V2 router on a V2 router etc.
    Linksys occasionally ussd firmware version numbers "borrowing" from the hardware version, e.g. WRT54Gv7 firmware starts with v7. But this is not always the case. For the WRVS4400N it seems as if they do the same, though.
    Anyway, check the label on the router then you know the hardware version...

  • How to tell the number of licenses

    Is there any way (besides looking at the actual license.bea file) of telling how many IPs are being used. For instance, if I have the 5 IP eval license, can I tell how many are used and how many are free? Same with a PROD license? I know PROD licenses are unlimited, but it would still be nice to know.
    TIA

    No, we cannot use flist.length. That would return an
    exception of nullpointer...That means that file.list() returns null. That might result in if file.exists() returns false.
    Actually, this is a matter of how to get the number of
    elements in a String array.The member length of an array instance returns the length of the array (or the number of elements in the array, whichever way you want to express it). If the array is null, then you are trying to reference the length member of a null variable.
    You might want to do like so:
    File file = new File("c:\\");
    if(!file.exists())
    System.out.println("Non-existant file");
    else { File[] flist = file.listFiles(); // or String[] flist = file.list(); for JDK1.1
    System.out.println("Files: " + flist.length);
    }Tuomas Rinta

  • How to tell the real bitrate of DV files?

    I am not a movie man, the closest thing I have is iMovie (and I never use that), but I have some DV videos which I took from an old camera (a lot like a VHS to digital conversion) and they all show as 57600 kbps. This cannot be.
    I am advised that when converting that 8000 kbps would suffice, but how do I actually tell the real bitrate of the DV files when everything shows it as such?
    Thanks.

    they all show as 57600 kbps
    Where are you getting the above information from?
    The originals are analog tapes converted to DV, right? How did your convert the signal -playing through a DV camera, signal converter box, etc? Please tell us the manufacturer and model too.
    I am advised that when converting that 8000 kbps would suffice
    There's a screenshot from QuickTime Player's Inspector window, showing the info for a DV clip here: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10858497#10858497
    That clip was shot on a high end Canon XL2 DV camera and plays perfectly.

  • How to tell the difference between 10w and 12w?

    We have:
    2 iPhone 5s
    1 iPad
    1 iPad 2
    1 iPad (4) with Retina
    I know that the iPhones use the smaller 5w charger, but how do I tell the difference between the iPad/iPad 2's 10w charger and the iPad 4's 12w charger? They look exactly the same.
    The iPad 4 takes forever to charge, so I want to make sure I am using the 12w - and I don't want to damage the older iPads by accidentally using the 12w.
    Thanks!

    Read the fine print on the charger. My iPad 2 10W charger says 5.1V 2.1A. A 12W charger should have a higher number for A.
    You can use the iPad 4 charger on your other devices, without damage, to charge them faster.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
    Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
    How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
    At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night.   • How to tell the difference from a real Nokia N8 an...
    I was looking on this site and a few people are selling them for $150 US and some of the ones I have seen you can tell right away because of the specs are different specially the camera, they arn't 12mp, but this one is.
    So please give me some advice on how you can tell the differences as for this price it's really hard to turn down, but on the otherhand I don't want to be sold a fake, thanks.
  • How to tell the version of the ORacle 9iAS?
    How to find the version information about the Oracle 9iAS (Not OC4J) from Enterprise Manager? In windows, we can always use help-->about to get the version number, how do I know the version of the application server is 9.0.2 or 9.0.3?
    thanks
    AS rel 2 is 9.0.2, never 9.0.3. But AS suite has many many product components that has different version number strings depending on your installations and your set of installed Patch Sets (e.g. you could have Infrastructure 9.0.2.3.0 and Core RSFs 9.0.1.4.0a)
    OC4J has been released as 9.0.3, next full AS is 9.0.4 (according to Metalink but who knows, maybe it'll be 10.0.1, 10.1.4 or whatever sounds marketingishly good)
  • How to restore the link between on screen library item and audio file?
    Do you have a BORKEN LINKS problem?
    I'd like to share a useful discovery.
    I have read a number of posts both here and other forums concerning 'broken links' problem after moving iTunes music folder to an external drive.
    ie. In the iTunes window you see a long list of playlists on the left (blue tinted) column and song names and details in the other columns but when you try to play a song a message tells you the link is broken and ! appears to the left of song name.
    Broken links can easily be restored if you use SMART PLAYLISTS.
    Note: I'm not sure about manually created playlists, so take care.
    How to repair the broken links:
    Step one:
    Make a back up copy of 2 important files,
    the current iTunes library and iTunes Music Library.xml files
    place copies somewhere away from the iTunes folder.
    Preparation:
    first go to iTunes Preferences and in the advanced settings page, uncheck the two boxes, Keep iTunes Music folder organsied : and Copy files to files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library.
    Method A. only some links broken.
    Within iTunes highlight each of your playlists in turn**, highlight all the songs listed and hit the delete key on the keypad. Don't worry all the category info will not be lost, keep the playlist window open so you can monitor the link repair progress.
    In the FILE menu, click on 'add to library', and select the artist folder containing the songs you just deleted. Click on the choose button, and soon all the songs will appear once more in the song list window complete with all associated info that you have previously added like genre, comments, grouping.
    Method B. all links broken.
    If your entire song list has broken links like mine did (ie when you try to play the song a ! appears to the left of song name, restoring the entire list is easy, having made the settings mentioned above, click on 'add to library' then select the iTunes Music folder itself, in a short time all the songs will appear on screen as before you deleted them with links restored.
    NOTE
    **For this reason it is a good idea to create a smart playlist corresponding to every Artist folder that appears in Finder, this greatly facilitates any future repairs of broken links in batches. In fact there is an advantage in making all the playlists of the 'Smart' type and taking the time to fill in fields like Genre, Comments, and Grouping as this information allows the application to place every song into at least one category which can be named when setting up the smart playlist.
    Replying to my own post here
    Apologies, this question should have been placed in Apple Mac users section.
    If you are a windows user please ignore unless you use iTunes also on a Mac :o)
  • How to delete the tracks with exclamation marks?
    I have just moved about 10 gigabytes of music I don't listen to off my hard disk to an external hard drive. This was to declutter my hard drive and get me down to about 50% free. Itunes now has all the moved tracks still listed with exclamation marks next to them all now. I want rid of these songs from my Itunes view. How can I get rid of these moved tracks now without manually deleting the batches. Annoying that exclamation mark field is not sortable or would be easy to mass delete.
    Anyone got a neat solution out there?
    Thanks in advance.
    Lorne
    Yes, but now you have lost all your regular playlists, ratings, play counts, last played dates, non-embedded artwork etc.
    Hope you don't miss them. If you do it might be possible to restore an earlier version of your library file and then bring it up-to-date with the free scripts at Doug's site.
    An all iTunes, no loss of data approach would have been as follows:
    Create a playlist called Found, select everything in Music and drag it into the Found playlist. Create a smart playlist called Lost matching All the rules Playlist is Music and Playlist is not Found. Your lost tracks will be in this playlist. You can delete them all with a Command-A to select them and Option-Delete to remove them. You can then delete the Lost & Found playlists.
    I normally recommend the scripts as being an easier way to do things that you may want to do again.
