How to tell what physical disk is an ASM volume?

Hello all,
I'm trying to install some clusterware. I have attached, a SAN unit, that was previously used for ASM.
After I installed the ASM libs/drivers...I ran oracleasm scandisks, and it found all of them.
I have ASM1,ASM2....ASMn
I thought, "great"..saves me time having to go through, find each disk device and configure them. I don't mind losing data on them.
I'm in the middle of the OUI for cluster install (11Gr2 on RHEL5)...and on the ASM portion (getting ready to create a disk group for the cluster for voting disk, etc)...well, under candidate disks...it shows nothing.
If I click the all disks option..it shows all my oracle volumes...but their status is 'member'. It will not allow me to add them to my to be new disk group.
I'm not sure what to do.
One problem...is that I can't seem to find a way to find out what physical disk device is associated with each ASM disk.
For instance:
oracleasm querydisk ASM33
Disk "ASM33" is a valid ASM disk
It just shows it's a valid disk...but if I wanted to release it, reconfigure it..etc, I don't know what physical disk it is, and I'd like to use the same layout that was used before.
Is there a way to find out what disk (example: /dev/sda12) is associated with ASM33?
I don't see any options listed for this in the man page for oracleasm, and I can't seem to find much documentation for this either...
Thanks in advance,
cayenne

Well for this you can use oracleasm querydisk.Using this you can identify which device as marked for asm or not. for example you can see this below example.

Occasionally, after start up, I'll see something that looks like a package that quickly runs.  I have no idea where to look for information to figure out what ran.  I've ran searches trying to find out how to tell what packages have recently run but have not found anything useful.  If anyone knows or has any ideas on what I can do to figure that out, I'd love the help.

The time capsule though blinks amber and the Airport Utility shows blinking amber light and has a red circle with the number 1 in it.
There is an error.. probably trivial.. firmware update, default password..
Open the airport utility and find out what the error is.
Simply click the TC and see status in the summary page.. it will list all the errors and what you should do.. fix or ignore them. ie this TC has an error.. default password.. I chose to ignore.. when I "fix" the problem the LED goes green.
Here is additional TC.. it is blinking amber with faults.
Click the fault. eg default password.
You can ignore or edit .. if you click edit it will take you to the full setup where you can change the settings.
I ignored my errors and now it is green..

  • How to tell what template is applied to a Framemaker file?

I'm new to Framemaker...so please excuse if this is a silly question.
We are trying to figure out how to tell what template has been applied to a Framemaker file. We are using the structured view in Framemaker 7.2.
Perhaps I am thinking too much like a Microsoft Word user -- in which case I can look at what template has been applied to a document.
Does Framemaker work the same way -- or are templates associated with Framemaker files in some other way?
    Thank you --
    J-Ha

    J-Ha,
FrameMaker works differently. Strictly speaking, there is no way to tell which template was used last. A FrameMaker template is just a FrameMaker document which you call "template". Using File > Import > Formats you can import all or selected formats from one document to another. The main benefit: Each document is completely self-contained and does not require any other document.
Many solutions I know of include a user variable named something like "template-version" into their template document or put the version information on one of the reference pages. When importing user variables or reference pages, this can tell you version imported last.

  • Azure Storage - How to tell what vhd is attached to what?

On our storage account in our vhd container we have vhd blobs. The issue is that it looks like some where renamed from what I manually named to them to some incomprehensible name. I'm not sure when this took place but sometime in the last month. So I now
have no idea what base OS vhd goes where.
How can tell which vhd is attached to which VM?
How do I rename these VHD's without taking down the server?
How can I find out which ones are not being used? It looks like 2 vhd's (30GB) haven't been modified for a month but how do I actually know they are not being attached to anything and being used? (Note: we only have vhd's no other blobs.)
How do I get Azure to stop renaming the blobs to some meaningless name?
    Thanks,
    Chris

How can tell which vhd is attached to which VM?
Since a VHD is essentially a page blob and is stored as a disk (OS disk or Data disk), you can list all disks and the result will include the URL of the blob. If you're using
Windows Azure PowerShell Cmdlets, you can find this information by executing Get-AzureDisk cmdlet. Also see this link for more details:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/jj157176.aspx
How do I rename these VHD's without taking down the server?
I don't think you can do that. Again because these VHDs are page blobs and blob storage do not support "Rename" operation natively, you would need to copy the VHD first and once the copy is complete, you can delete the original one.
How can I find out which ones are not being used? It looks like 2 vhd's (30GB) haven't been modified for a month but how do I actually know they are not being attached to anything and being used? (Note: we only have vhd's no other blobs.)
When a VHD is attached to a VM, Windows Azure puts a lock (lease) on the blob holding the VHD. Easiest way for you to check is by listing the blobs in that container and find out which blob has active lease on it. Other way obviously is to get all disks
and get the URLs and comparing them with all blobs in that container.
How do I get Azure to stop renaming the blobs to some meaningless name?
Not sure what you mean. Could you please explain?
    Hope this helps.

  • How to tell what fonts are missing in a Photosohp CS5 document?

Hello!  I have received some work from a graphic designer.  I need to modify some of the text in the document.  When I open the document I get an error message:
Some text layers might need to be updated before they can be used for vector based output.  Do you want to update these layers now?  [Update] [No]
If I click [Update] it replaces the font with Myriad Pro.  If I click [No] the text looks the way the designer intended, but I have the exclamation mark-triangle symbol over the layer with the text.  If I try to edit the text I get another warning:
Editing or rendering the text layer "Text Layer" will cause its layout to change.  Continue?  [Cancel]  [OK]
The same behavior described above occurs.  If I click [Cancel] I obviously can't edit the text.  If I click [OK] it changes the font to Myriad Pro.
I would like to determine what font the layer is using.  I could swear that previous versions of Photoshop would tell me what fonts were missing when I opened a document.  I can't use the text tool to select the text without it changing the font.  Other posts have mentioned using the text tool to look at the text drop-down to find a greyed-out font which indicates the missing font.  I do not have that.  I only have perhaps 200 fonts installed.  Can anyone tell me how to determine what fonts a .PSD document is using?  I would prefer not to bug the graphic designer if possible.  Thanks much!
    ~ Dan

Not sure why you are getting ""Font is present on the system but requires a layout change.", usually you do not get that instead the name of the font shows.
We use extensis Universal Type Client, so the fonts load automatically upon opening files, and never really get missing fonts in Photoshop.
Actually fontbook has auto font loading if you want to give that a try. Fontbook >> Preferences

  • How to tell what version of Acrobat or Reader was last used to save a PDF

How can I tell what version of Acrobat or Reader was last used to save a PDF file? My users are using fillable forms from grants.gov. We want them to use Adobe Reader 8.1.3 to fill these forms, but some accidentally use the Pro version of Acrobat. They need this to make PDFs from Word & other apps, but Pro will corrupt the fillable forms.
When I open a saved form in Reader 8.1.3 and click File > Properties it says Acrobat 7.x even though I know it was saved with 8.1.3.
Is there a way to know which version number and type (Reader or Pro) last saved a PDF?

But it won't tell you what was used last. It just gives the original information.
It also won't differentiate between Pro and Standard and of course won't mention Reader at all.

  • How to tell what version of a document the workflow ran against?

I am using the OOB Approval workflow and in the workflow information I see a Document field, but that links latest version of the document. How can I tell what version of the document the workflow actually ran against?

    Hi,
Set a variable in the workflow to be equal to the version of the document.
Now you can use this variable to update a column in the document library with the version and date the workflow was ran. Next time the workflow runs, update this column with next run details.
OR write this variable to workflow history. Hope it helps.

  • How to use several physical disk ??

    Hi,
I'll use BerkleyDB to store millions and millions of records.
These records will need at least XXX Go on physical hard drive.
Currently, 300 millions of records = 60 Go.
But the number of records will grow exponentially
Is it a way to use several physical disk to store BerkleyDB environement and associated DBs ?
If is not possible, what is the best practice ?
Using several environment on different disk ?
    Tks for your answers !!
    Regards

Is it a way to use several physical disk to store BerkleyDB environement and associated DBs ?You can to spread a BDB deployment across multiple disks by using multiple environments in your application. Each environment would specify a distinct environment home. Preferably this would be configured to share a common cache, in order to have the most effective use of memory. See EnvironmentConfig.setSharedCache in JE 3.3
Note that transactions are per-environment; you can't include operations from different environments in a single transaction.

Hello everybody.  I'm currently booted into my Windows BootCamp partition, but have read access to the OSX partition.  How can I tell what version of OSX I have while staying booted into my BootCamp Windows session.  Is there a file I can look at on the OSX partition that has this info?
I know the easy answer is to boot into the Mac side and just look in About This Mac, but I can't reboot right now.

Open the file /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist in any text editor. If needed, copy it to the Windows partition and change the copy's extension to txt.
