How to tell what version of Mac OSX?
Hello;
I am a person who works for a university here in the US. Alot of the times, I have macs that dont boot, but I can see the data from the hard drive, via an external dock. Is there a way to tell what version of the OS is from a strictly file level? Without being booted into the OS?
Thanks,
Brian
If the computer's booted into an OS which doesn't support that(not all Mac OS X versions do), open the file /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist in any text editor.

How to tell what version of Acrobat or Reader was last used to save a PDF
How can I tell what version of Acrobat or Reader was last used to save a PDF file? My users are using fillable forms from grants.gov. We want them to use Adobe Reader 8.1.3 to fill these forms, but some accidentally use the Pro version of Acrobat. They need this to make PDFs from Word & other apps, but Pro will corrupt the fillable forms.
When I open a saved form in Reader 8.1.3 and click File > Properties it says Acrobat 7.x even though I know it was saved with 8.1.3.
Is there a way to know which version number and type (Reader or Pro) last saved a PDF?But it won't tell you what was used last. It just gives the original information.
It also won't differentiate between Pro and Standard and of course won't mention Reader at all. -
How to tell what version of a document the workflow ran against?
I am using the OOB Approval workflow and in the workflow information I see a Document field, but that links latest version of the document. How can I tell what version of the document the workflow actually ran against?
Hi,
Set a variable in the workflow to be equal to the version of the document.
Now you can use this variable to update a column in the document library with the version and date the workflow was ran. Next time the workflow runs, update this column with next run details.
OR write this variable to workflow history. Hope it helps.

How to tell which version of Mac OS X is installed?
I'm not sure this is the best category for this question but I wasn't sure which area would be the best.
Let's say I have a hard drive attached to my mac (via firewire or usb) and I want to ascertain what version of Mac OS X is installed on it. Is there some way I can look directly into the files to tell? I realize I could look at System Preferences-> Startup Disk. But let's say there is an early version of Mac OS X on the drive and it doesn't show up in the Preference Pane because it wont boot that particular machine.
I hope I haven't made this question more obtuse than it needs to be.
Thanks. If you open /System/Library/CoreServices, you'll find the Finder app. Get info on it and it will be close to the System version. There might be somewhere on the Web that cross-references the Finder version to the OS version.

coz my connectiv box driver approve only 10.5.8
According to Mactracker, given the size of the screen and the CPU speed your MBP could be one of these models:
- MacBookPro5,1, which originally shipped with OS X 10.5.5
- MacBookPro5,3, which originally shipped with OS X 10.5.7
Since they originally shipped with OS X 10.5, the system disc that came with your MBP may have 10.5 on it. If so, you should be able to do a reinstall from the original disc. If you do a full backup to another volume before you do that, you can recover your data from the backup to your MBP. However, some migrating some of the data (such as Mail messages) may be tricky due to format changes. -
How to tell what version and platform created an InDesign File
Is there any way to tell if the InDesign file is created/or last saved on a Mac or PC and what version it is?
We receive files from many customers and some InDesign files appear to be passed back and forth between PC and Mac. Some fonts used are definitely PC and some are definitely Mac.
But we are not finding anything to give us the above info.
Thank you,
Linda Nivinhold down the Command (apple) key as you click on About InDesign (with an open file) and you should see something like:
Scroll down through the Document History: and you will see a series of entries, starting with the creation. -

How to tell what version of Flash a FLA is saved as?
I can't find out what version of the Flash IDE my FLA file is compatible with. The only solution I have is to try opening it in earlier and earlier versions until it doesn't work. I've heard of a utility called "Flaver", which is used to detect the FLA version. Is there no way to do this otherwise?

How to tell what version of htmldb is running?
A while back I installed htmldb (now application express) on AIX 5.2.
I think I used the Companion CD 10gR2 so thought that I had installed version 2 of htmldb. But when you log in it appears to show that version 1.6 is running.
Is there a way I can tell for sure which version I have?David,
The 10gR2 companion CD has 1.6 on it. 2.0 is a separate download.
See: http://otn.oracle.com/apex
The version number you see at the bottom right on the login screen is what you have installed.

How to tell what OSX I have, while booted into BootCamp
Hello everybody. I'm currently booted into my Windows BootCamp partition, but have read access to the OSX partition. How can I tell what version of OSX I have while staying booted into my BootCamp Windows session. Is there a file I can look at on the OSX partition that has this info?
I know the easy answer is to boot into the Mac side and just look in About This Mac, but I can't reboot right now.Open the file /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist in any text editor. If needed, copy it to the Windows partition and change the copy's extension to txt.

Question
How do I tell what version (update / release level) of version 6 has been applied to my system? I have applied several different release levels to version 6 of FF but all the about feature tells me is Version 6.0. no version! This seems to be a change in the way updates are handled. Is that a bending because of the speed of which you're pushing out updates and new releases?

Nope, I never used Chrome, but I did try Chromium on my Windows desktop PC for a few months last year. I got tired of the Google updater. exe running all the time and Google's method of doing updates, so it's gone. I do have Chromium on my Linux EeePC since last summer, but Ubuntu handles all updates and gives the user the capability to accept or deny, any or all updates - much more to my liking, similar to the way Mozilla does it. I don't like software developers forcing to update until I am ready to proceed.
There's a lot more about this new Fast Release system, than just the lack of visible version numbers, that I don't like. The Nightly, Aurora, Beta, & Release sequence is dumb with the way it changes the version numbers. I prefer installing (for instance) what will become version 7 and have that installation progress thru the 4 stages, instead. Now it's like Nightly going from 7 to 8, Aurora going from 6 to 7, and Beta doing - hell, I won't know if it becomes a Release or if it just dies and I will have to install the Release version myself. ''Quite honestly I don't care, because I don't think this new "system" is going to last too long without major modifications. Too damn many users are so pissed off, that when Firefox starts losing large numbers of users, Chrome keeps growing and eventually passes Firefox in number of users and market share of usage - Mozilla will wake up and see the "light" and change back to the way things used to be done, to a certain extent.''
I also dislike the UI changes in 4/5/6/7 enough that I am still using Firefox 3.6 for almost everything and Firefox 2.0.0.20 for the rest. I have been setting my toolbars up almost like Mozilla did for Firefox 4, since Firefox '''0.7''' in 2003 and I haven't come up with a workable combination of mods and extensions to configure Firefox to look and work the way I have been doing for almost 8 years now. -
I have been told by NC Medicaid NC Tracks/Liberty that they only support Firefox 10. This is the program where all transactions and processes are conducted. How do I tell what version I have?
I have also tried to log in to NC Track with Firefox, but I get a screen that states I cant access the site?Hello,
At the top of the Firefox window, click the '''Help menu''' and select '''About Firefox.''' You will get a window like the one in image below.
For Installing older version of Firefox Go through [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-older-version-of-firefox?esab=a&s=checking+version+of+firefox&r=1&as=s Install an older version of Firefox] .
