How to temporarily turn off firewall to allow download of Adobe

Tried to download new Adobe Flash Player. Started to download but stopped asking to turn off my Firefox firewall. Don't know if I should and how to do it.

Firefox is a browser, not a firewall. Follow the instructions below.
There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash:
*an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only
*a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox
*On a Windows system, you should always update both individually.
'''''You do not appear to have the Plugin version for Firefox installed. ''''' If you did, in Add-ons > Plugins you would see "Shockwave Flash ''(version)''". If "Shockwave Flash" is there and is disabled, click the "Enable" button.
Check your Plugins often --> http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
*only the most popular/used Plugins are known by this page
*page will detect only installed, '''''enabled''''' Plugins
'''<u>Install or update Adobe Flash</u>'''<br />
#'''<u>Using Firefox</u>''', go to the following link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later. Un-check any items on that page that you do not want to download (i.e., "McAfee Security Scan Plus":
#When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
#*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
#*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
#*The installation is quick.
#Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
#To update/install the ActiveX version for IE '''''only''''', repeat the process, '''<u>but use IE to go to the above website</u>'''.

Some folks have discovered that changing their DNS service fixes FaceTime connection issues.
    The ideal way is to configure your modem/router with DNS service, but often settings in System Preferences/Network/Advanced/DNS on your Mac will override the router settings. Try either of these;
    OpenDNS
    208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
    Google Public DNS
    8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4

  • ITunes U: how do I turn off the 50 MB download limit for mobile data connections?

Since I rarely have access to Wi-Fi networks I do actually want to download iTunes U content using mobile data. Videos (and even some slide decks) exceed the 50 MB limit that iTunes U will allow you to download over mobile data connections. How do I turn off the 50 MB download limit for mobile data connections?

You can't unless the phone is jailbroken (which in turn voids your warranty)

  • How to temporarily turn OFF Spotlight Indexing?

It was suggested to me that it is best to turn off spotlight indexing for the duration of an initial clone backup of your system drive. How can this be done? Thanks.

The advice you have been given is incorrect. There is no need whatsoever to turn Spotlight off even temporarily. Just prior to the cloning you should check that indexing of your boot volume is not occurring - simply because the competition for CPU will slow the cloning down. Just click on the Spotlight symbol at the right hand end of your menubar to see that you only have the text entry box.
Also, there is usually no need to have a clone indexed, and so you should put the target volume into the Privacy tab of System Preference / Spotlight -- that will ensure that your target does not start to be indexed during the cloning and that the target volume does not become indexed later. Should you ever need to work on the clone and want it to be indexed, just remove that volume from 'Privacy'.

  • How do I turn off antivirus software to upgrade to Adobe Acrobat Professional from the Standard?

I need to turn off antivirus software on my computer at work.  It has Kaspersky, McAfee, and Norton, believe it or not.  I have not installed or used these antivirus programs, but I am required to know how to disable them temporarily to do this upgrade.  Please help!

Why do you need to disable the antivirus program to upgrade Adobe Acrobat?
Are you facing some issues while upgrading?

  • How can I turn off alert that Safari downloaded this application?

A simple question, with what I'm sure will be a simple answer, but I just can't work it out. I have only just bought an iMac, running Leopard. Using Safari, I downloaded Firefox. Now every time I open Firefox, I receive an alert that says something like "You are about to open Firefox which is an application Safari downloaded from the internet". Usually with these sort of alerts there's a box that you can check that says "don't remind me about this again", but not so in this case.
Where do I go, please, to turn off this alert. As friendly as it is, I don't feel I need to be reminded that I downloaded this application from the internet via Safari, every time I open it up...
    Many thanks.

    Security.
You can check a box in Safari preferences to open "Safe" files after downloading but Applications are not one of them.

  • Turning off Firewall's allows for VPN, iCal and other services to work.

    Hello All,
Today I decided to spend the day playing around with our new Mac Leopard Server on the bench. Here is what I found today and I was hoping someone might have some insight. We setup our MacPro with one NIC to ISP via static IP and the other to our switch running the LAN. Our DNS is setup so that apple.ourdomain.com points to the static NIC. And on the inside it's running the standard 192.168.1.1/24 for the LAN. Well all services seem to be running and setup fine today but after setting up one test MacBook Pro and then connecting to dialup outside our LAN/WAN we could not gain access to iCal (kept telling us network connection failed) or to VPN. But after about an hour of playing with the Standard config I found that if I disable the firewall in server admin and server prefs then I can VPN in via PPTP and L2TP as well as connect to iCal and to the Wiki/Webservices.
I had been trying for an hour and watching the logs for all services to find a failure as to why this remote workstation could not gain access to services inside but now I know for sure it's the built in firewall. Has anyone else seen this and do any of you regulars have any suggestions? I can put a Cisco PIX in front of the MacPro but the built in IP Chains firewall that I have disabled to give me remote services should be more than suffice to protect my calendar. I mean it's not like I am hiding the cure for cancer here...

  • When installing third party software, how do I temporarily turn off the factory installed virus sw and firewall?

when installing third party software, how do I temporarily turn off the factory installed virus sw and firewall?  Is it necessary on a Mac to do so?  I come from the Windows world and am still in the learning curve on the Mac.

Correct.  I have not installed ANY other software for anti-virus, etc.  I want to install a Synch app for my HTC phone to sych with MS Outlook 2011 installed on my Mac.    HTC will not synch with it otherwise.  That was really the basis for my question....if installing a non Apple app can be done without messing with factory settings on the Mac.  In Windows I remember that I needed to disable Norton and the Firewall in order for installation to occur.
    Thanks.

  • How do I temporarily turn off my Mac's firewall and/or virus protection so Carbonite can upload my data?

I downloaded Carbonite software to periodically back-up my data.  But my Mac cannot contact the Carbonite server.  I think this is because of my firewall or virus protection.  How can I temporarily turn off my firewall and/or virus protection so Carbonite can upload all the data on my Mac?  How will Carbonite be able to periodically upload my data when my firewall and virus protection are back on?
    Zev

    Watch out with Carbonite!
I found that it is not able to return many of the database for Apple products are not returned in a usable format.
I highly recommend that if you are going to use Carbonite that you test everything before commiting to it as your backup solution.

  • How do I turn off the feature that allows the duplication of App downloads to more than one phone? As in my wife downloads an app and I get a dulpicate download on my phone.

How do I turn off the feature that allows the duplication of App downloads to more than one phone? As in my wife downloads an app and I get a dulpicate download on my phone.

To disable that feature it will depend on whether or not you sync everything in the cloud using Apple's iCloud, OR if you both use the same desktop/laptop computer with iTunes. Here is a link to the Apple support page in regards to the automatic download feature included with your iPhone and corresponding softwares such as iTunes.

Follow those instructions and it will all be taken care of.
