How to test a migration to a new hardware platform ?

Hello members,
I read this procedure :
http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmrecov002.htm
But it's related to 10g.
I have a 9.2.0.7 platform and i'd like to restore database on a new platform without stopping production.
I didn't install instance on the new platform, only binaries have been installed.
What is the best method to do that ?
Many thanks for your help.
Guillaume

If the platforms are binary compatiable you can copy the database files from one server to another and start the database on the new server. You want to use the same version of the OS. This will not work for moving from Sun to HP or even on the same vendor hardware if the hardware uses a different chip set (processor HP owns vs Intel inside).
But I like exp/imp. This allows you to lay out and build the new version of the database to match you new disk setup and to rearrange you database objects as desired for managment. (Recreate dictionary managed tablespaces as locally managed, separate very large table to its own tablespace, etc ...)

I did not deactivate a photoshop cs6 before there was a new "C" hard drive installed on my computer and a Win7 Pro fresh install too. How can I activate photoshop on the new hardware if I can't deactivate it on the old hardware that is no longer available? Any help will be appreciated.

If it's the same machine (same CPU) there should not be any need to activate.  The actiovation is tied to your CPU.

  • How to test the migrated workflows in SharePoint 2013

Hi, we are migrated the portal from SharePoint (Moss) 2007 to SharePoint 2013 using Doc Ave tool.
Now my concern is how to test all (OOTB and SharePoint Designer) workflows are working properly in SharePoint 2013.
How to approach? Any ideas/help will be appreciated.

    Hi Ashok,
Have the business users that use them or the folks that created them test them in the DEV environment prior to the PRD migration...

  • Migrating cluster to new hardware

Does anyone know of any best practices/documentation on migrating an existing RAC cluster to new hardware and operating system? We do not use ASM, but OCFS2.
    Thanks!

I would say that Apple should be able to update your 36-months maintenance agreement with a OSXS 10.4 serial number.
As far as I know, the structure of 10.3 and 10.4 serial numbers is different (wasn't the case between 10.2 and 10.3) so I'm short of a technical answer here.
    Maybe you could try :
    /System/Library/ServerSetup/serversetup -setServerSerialNumber xxxx-xxx-xxx-x-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-x
in a Terminal window on the server. It's theorically the same as using Server Admin but maybe this could help.

  • Documentation Required: Migrate uPerform to New Hardware

    Hi All,
I am currently looking at what it would take to migrate the uPerform server to updated hardware that is still in compliance with the recommended specifications. So far I haven't found anything helpful in OSS notes or other documentation from the SAP support side. I did find what appears would help me on Ancile's support portal but the site requires login credentials: Online Guide to Moving uPerform Databases in Microsoft SQL in uPerform 4.30 or Higher .
Can anyone provide information on where to find any SAP documentation on hardware migration activities for uPerform? Can the software just be installed on the new target and databases restored from the source application server, or are other flat files etc. required? Any document or input would be appreciated.
    Thank you!

Thank you, I have opened an incident as directed. Additionally, I would still be interested for any info or issues encountered from others who migrated to new hardware.
    Thank you.

  • Unable to create a new hardware platform in SDK from Vivado

I have exported a simple Vivado 2015.1 Hardware design to SDK 2015.1. I then open SDK to the correct workspace and take the following steps:
    1) File -> New -> Application Project
    2) I then name the project and click "New..." to choose the exported hardware platform from Vivado.
    3) I then name the hardware project and browse for my hdf or xml file.
    4) I select the .hdf file and click finish.
    5) The dialog box does not go away.
    6) I then click "Cancel" and can see that my harware platform is still not an option to choose from.
What could I be doing incorrectly?
    Thanks for the help!

    Hi,
You can refer from page 27 of http://www.xilinx.com/support/documentation/sw_manuals/xilinx2015_1/ug940-vivado-tutorial-embedded-design.pdf to understand the export to SDK flow,

  • How to test Data migration/conversion?

I'm writing Java scripts to migrate a 8i database to 10g db with totally different schema. My question is after the migration is done, any process/tool that I can use to verify all the data has been migration successfully and completed?
    Thanks,
    Andy

Does "totally different schema" mean "totally different data model"? If so, there is no automatic way for any tool to ensure that the data in two different data models matches-- you would have to write custom scripts for that sort of thing since only you know how the data is supposed to be translated from one data model to another.

  • How to test iPad after restoring as new.

I updated my iPad 4 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) to iOS 7.0.6 in the last week of February. Some apps were earlier crashing to the home screen (Amerigo, dragon city, chess) . My home screen crashed to the apple logo a few times after the update and I saw that there was panic.plist in my diagnostics and usage data. As suggested by Apple I Updated to 7.1 (it crashed to Apple logo during restore) and restored my device as new thru iTunes and the camera app crashed to the home screen soon after. Have restored it again as new today. Now can u pls suggest which of my apps can be loaded to the iPad to see if it is working ok. My device is supported by Apple till the end of this month.

    Thanks Diavonex,
Do you suggest that I don't restore from iTunes backup as I believe all apps will be restored? Also is panic.plist a hardware problem? I got this message soon after my first restore in Diagnostics and Usage

  • How well does Parallels migrate into a new Mac?

Just bought an iMac and I'm planning on migrating everything currently in my Macbook, including the whole Parallels set-up, into the iMac. Just curious, does anyone here have experience with a similar scenario? Do the Windows / Parallels drive, setup etc. all migrate painlessly, or is there additional configuration to be done? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you must do a limited amount of configuration. Since Parallels is not an Apple product, I suggest you post further questions regarding Parallels on the Parallels forums:

  • Migrate (N)AMP server to new hardware

    Hi,
I have been looking for documentation on how to move an AMP configuration to
new hardware (practically same OS-install, NW65SP7).
Is there any info around 'cause I wasn't able to find any. And before I
start dumping MySQL databases and Apache virtual hosts, I thought i'd ask
    here.
On the origin server, webcontent and SQL db are placed on different volumes
than SYS. I looked at MigrationWizard as well, but my replacement server is
already in the same tree (new name).
Any info, links or directions, appreciated.
    Regards,
    Marcel

I'd transfer the database and adjust Apache and PHP settings manually.

  • 10gR2 to 11gR1 on win2k3R2 with new Hardware

I am going to upgrade from 10gR2 ee to 11gR1 ee on new hardware.
    Both are win2k3R2 32bit.
I would like to only install 11gR1 software on the new box and drives.
    My question.
Do I only have the exp/imp option to move the db or can I copy (backup/restore) the tablespaces and use DBUA?
Does anyone have any experiance with a bare metal upgrade? I have done the exp/imp before and it works but is very tedious.
    Thanks,
    Bob

if you use either export/import or the Datapump it is a feasible solution if the amount of data is reasonable manageable, otherwise you have a non-scalable solution.
If you don't want to install both 10g and 11g on your new hardware, you could install 11g on your old hardware, then perform the upgrade process there and move the database files to the new hardware platform.
You can also use the transportable tablespace feature to move create a 10g transportable set and plug it into the 11g database.

Photoshop elements 10 will not migrate to my new macbook pro/retina display.  There is no CD/DVD player on this machine.  Any suggestions on how to get Elements onto my machine?  Yes, I have the disk(s).  Am I going to have to buy an external CD/DVD player to load this one program:(

I have ordered a USB3 BluRay/DVD/CD player/burner and will use that both with my iMac ( in which the Superdrive seems to be failing ) and the MBPro Retina I just bought .

You can copy the iWeb application from the desktop machine to your new MBA.  But if it's iWeb 2 it won't work with Mavericks or Mt. Lion. Also  copy the Domain.sites file from the desktop to your MBA as that's the file with your webstite files in it.

  • How can I use migration assistant to load my new Macbook Air?

How do I use migration assistant to load my new Macbook Air?  Can this be done only wirelessly?

No, you can transfer from a Mac wirelessly, wired ethernet, Thunderbolt or Firewire. Your older Mac must have the same connection, but you can use adaptors if necessary. For example, you can use an Ethernet cable with an Ethernet-Thunderbolt adaptor if your older Mac has an ethernet port.
Wireless tends to be pretty slow (can take many hours) so it's recommended to choose a wired connection whenever you can.

  • How to test a new transaction type in Asset Accounting?

    Hello everybody,
I need to explain how to test if the creation of a new transaction type in Asset Accounting was correct.
In other words, under what condition what should be the expected result.
    The requirement was:
Create 2 new transaction types in asset accounting in order to book various business transactions:
    -     Create a new transaction type in asset accounting in order to book the credit memo.
    -     Create a new transaction type in asset accounting in order to book the scrapping cost.
And we make it throught AO73 transaction - Define Transaction Types for Acquisitions u2013 and OAYA transaction - Limit Transaction Types to Depreciation Areas u2013
    Many thanks in advance,
    Alvaro

    Hi Alvaro,
I think best is you test a posting with the standard transaction typ delivered by SAP first. For example for credit memo in the aqcuisition year the standard tty is 105. If you post with this transaction type you then can check the document and you will see what line items are posted in which way.
To create your own transaction type:
You can check the customizing in the standard transaction type and then you could copy it to your own transaction type and give it your own name, and which you may then want to limit to certain depreciation areas via OAYA as you rightly pointed out.
For retirement by scrapping I would suggest the same: make a posting using the standard delivered transaction types and then check the document to see how the system posts. The make the required admustments in your own created transaction type copied from the standard transaction type.
    I hope this helps,
    Kind regards,
    Brigitte
