How to test if a QT movie is Self-contained?

I have had difficulties in DVD SP because some movies produced in FCE were (inadvertently) created with the box "Make Movie Self-contained" unchecked. I had lost some of my files on my Scratch Disc (render files I think) on which the movies depended and so they would not open and DVD SP itself refused to launch. I recovered from that by devious methods.
However, I now want to confirm or otherwise that each of my movie files is Self-contained, and if not, to re-create them in FCE (if I still have the Capture Scratch for their FCE projects). How can I confirm that please?
Two possible tests:
1. Open the movie and do Window -> Show Movie Properties. Select "Video Track" and the "Resources" tab. If the only resource listed is the movie itself, that means the movie is Self-Contained (because it is not listed as relying on any part of FCE's Scratch Disc);
2. Close the movie. Dismount my (external) FCE Scratch Disc and try to reopen the movie. If it opens, it is Self-Contained (again, because it cannot possibly be reliant on FCE's Scratch Disc).
Is each of these tests definitive and reliable?
Thanks.

If your render files are definitely on the external drive only, then method 2 is reliable. Depending on the file method 1 may not be. QuickTime still treats it as a complete movie file.

  • FCP quits when exporting ref movie or self contained

This one has be pulling my hair out. When I try to export an hour long project, FCP quits about half way in. Doesn't seem to matter if it is a ref movie or self contained. I get the unexpectedly quit window. I have no idea how to fix this. It is extremely frustrating. Any ideas?
    Best.

Don't use an XDCAM sequence setting. Mixing that format with ANY OTHER FORMAT causes issues. I have had 3 jobs in the last 2 weeks that were HDV and XDCAM, and when they were in their native timeline settings, with other footage and graphics mixed in, I had HORRID times exporting and outputting. The solution? Changing the sequence compressor to ProRes, and rendering again. Then the projects exported fine.
So my rule #1 when dealing with HDV or XDCAM, is to edit in a ProRes sequence...all the time. No matter what. Dealing with GOP native, when you add other things like stills or other footage, is cause for nightmare issues. That GOP format is just too whacky to deal with.

  • FCP 5.1 keeps trying to export movie as self-contained

Not sure if this is a bug or this is just user error, but in 5.1 i'm trying to export a sequence as a reference movie so that i can send it to iDVD. Can't do self-contained since I don't have the HD space. Regardless of whether or not I hit "make self-contained movie" it crunches, maxes out the read/write meter in Activity Monitor, and starts trying to export the whole movie.
Am I setting something wrong in a weird pref pane?

How do you know the program is creating a self-contained movie? It doesn't sound as though you are letting it finish.
If there are a great number of effects that are unrendered when you export as a reference, FCP must render them to be included with the pointers and ther result is the reference movie can be nearly as large as a self-contained movie.
FWIW - if you don't have enough space for a self contained movie on your internal harddrive, you are probably operating without enough space, period ....

  • Exporting Quicktime Movie not self contained

I exported a QT file withought adding the .mov extension to it. I am exporting a movie that is not self contained so that I can create a QT movie (jpegA) in QT. The Process I used: file>export>QTmovie. It does not create an extension automaticaly so I didn't add it. The file has the FCPlogo with the QT logo inside, but neither FCP or QT will recognize it. I tried just adding the .mov, didn't work do I have to recreate the file and add the .mov manually during creation? It is huge and took 5-6 hrs to create, Is there a way to use the file that was created?
This seems counter intuitive. Never used a program that created a file that I needed to add the extension for without it prompting me to set it, especially when I am asking specifically for a QT movie. Please telll me there is a way to use this 4.5 gig file, I don't have the time to recreate it. Thanks Marc

The movie is completely rendered as far as I can tell(no red lines above sequence, how can I check or make sure it's rendered by rendering in a specific way other than render needs render). It is 94 min, shot in HDV, up to 4-6 tacks of video in some cases with 9 tracks of audio so that may account for size and length of time?
Same machine is being used and I didnt't move the render files. No red lines on project.
You can easily recreate the problem by going through my steps. It is stupid that the .mov doesnt show up. My question is, can I add it afterwards in some way? Make it a smart file or whatever. It is the same type of file just without the extension it didn't ask me to designate or auto designate like would make sense. Sorry for the frustration, I really appreciate your help

  • Files in MOV-Container missing, although MOV is self-containing

    Hello everybody,
I've got a strange problem here. We are capturing MPEG4-Files with a camera and cutting those files with quicktime pro (so that we don't have do re-encode those files in order to gain time). The files consist of a few MPEG4-Movie-Sequences (that are copy/pasted from the original files) and a small Signation-MPEG4 from the harddisk. Then the files are saved as self-contained quicktime-files and transfered to another computer.
But a few files will not contain the signation, although the moviefiles from the camera are in the container.
Is there a difference in Quicktime if a file is added by drag'n'drop, by "Insert" or "add to movie"?
I can't reproduce the problem (it comes up on a Mac and on Win with Quicktime 7.1.3) and it scares me
Thank you very much, i would appreciate your help.

Could it be a solution that the file is - during editing the video - "Saved As" a self containing movie... But afterwards, when the last file is insertet and when the video is finished just "Saved". Maybe if you save a video through "Save" (and not "Save as"), for new, added files just the references will be saved in a self contained-video.

If you wish to test only the delta feature then, post documents in the source system and extract deltas. Keep changing the fields in the document and test how the delta gets captured by checking the delta queue and also the delta loads in BW side.

  • How can I export an SD 16:9 self contained file from FCX?

    Hi folks,
I'm playing with the trial.  Used another thread to figure out how to import mts files (Loving the fact I don't have to clipwrap them!
Original footage is in HD - 1920 x 1080.  Upon importing it looks like it converts to ProRes422 1440 x 1080 - is that correct?
Regardless, my client doesn't want blu ray. They want DVD and I used BitVice to compress mpeg2s (much better than compressor 3 for quality imho).
Plus, I don't want to pay for compressor 4 or x (whatever it's called).
I've tried Share - Export Media, but can't see any option for outputting to an SD file (720x480 16:9) ?
Thanks in advance for reading and possibly helping me out!
    Cheers,
    Keebler

Original footage is in HD - 1920 x 1080.  Upon importing it looks like it converts to ProRes422 1440 x 1080 - is that correct?
No, that's not correct, but it depends on the exact type of HD media and your import settings.
You can't export to that without compressor 4. You'll have to export a ProRes master and take that to BitVice.

  • Reference movie or self-contained

which is the better workflow from fcp into compressor. making a dvd of about 12 minutes which will eventually go into dvdsp. i took a reference movie and about 60 percent through it keeps stalling. no idea why. bit rate is normal..as i used the best settings for dvd (under 90 minutes) and didnt change anything. ideas? help? thanks

Sue, you've been around here long enough, go out and get a couple more drives, and clean the junk off your system drive. That ought to be OS, Apps only.

  • How to test the PMS/apprisal template

    Hi experts,
We have completed the configuration of Apprisal templete.
With OOHAP_BASIC,PHAP_CATALOG_PA we have completed the process along with status and substatus, staus flow.
    I struckup at this juncture.
How to test the entire process after the configuration.
    Please advice.
    Regards,
    Sairam.

    Hi Sairam,
To test the PMS process, please follow the below steps :
    1. Go to PHAP_CREATE_PA and select your template. Enter the details for appraisee, appraiser, reviewer ( if applicable ) and also the start date and end date. Save the document.
    2. Go to PHAP_ADMIN_PA and select the template/appraisee id in the appraisee column in the selection screen and execute. Select your appraisal document and then select from Menu- Appraisal Document->Change Status and select your initial status and sub status.
Now you can login to Portal/R3 with the user and start testing. The substatus will move automatically based on your workflow. Once you complete a particular status say 'In Planning' you need to manually change the status again from PHAP_ADMIN_PA to 'In Review'.
Get back to me in case of any queries.

By using testing tool we can test the entire business process, and we can also use this tool with a third party testing tool (I am not covering this topic). Execution of every test script ends with a log, which explains the results of the test script.
By using eCATT we can do following operations,
    ·        Test transactions, reports, and scenarios
    ·        Call BAPIs and function modules
    ·        Test remote systems
    ·        Check authorizations (user profiles)
    ·        Test updates (database, applications, GUI)
    ·        Test the effect of changes to customizing settings
    ·        Check system messages

  • How to Test AIR 1.5

Sorry if this seems slightly off center, but I blame Adobe, not myself. Trying to determine the true status and positioning of AIR amongst the various Flex forums and projects for an outsider is practically impossible. So, I will be brief. In September Mr. Chambers sent opened the flow by telling us that we could find FP10 integrated with Flex SDK in something you call 1.5 or Cosmo, or both. He was properly circumspect, so I didn't rush into it -- there was not even an ADL binary when I checked. Now it is November, the Trunk is at 4005, and ostensibly, everything we need to start trying to take advantage of FP support of 3D operations is out there. But where? Where do we get a version of AIR 1.5 that can be installed on a target desktop, so that we can try to run the ADT test cycle?
Call it Gumbo, call it Flex4, call it whatever, but can someone tell us how to start testing it for AIR application deployment?
    Thank you.

My user <br />    cares.<BR><BR>My user will get frequent updates to an ever-growing body of <br />    software called an application, and he will get them over those same slow <br />    bandwidth network links that the Flex user sees.  What's "good for the <br />    goose is good for the gander".  There is simply no reason not to <br />    architect the library of code that we use to cobble together the application <br />    and use the same intelligent caching mechanism in both environments.  I <br />    looked for a month for a white paper or discussion of how to 'modularize' an <br />    AIR app but all that you wanted to publish were white papers on how to <br />    'modularize' a Flex app.<BR><BR>I'm sure that you guys have a bunch of <br />    object diagrams and product architecture blueprints that you have memorized <br />    -- but that is not what we see 'outside the black box'.  What we see is <br />    a confusing distinction between the AIR efforts and the Flex efforts <br />    although the code base and efforts are substantially the same.  And if <br />    that is true from an internals point of view, put on your end-user hat and <br />    look at how we view a AIR/Flex app -- it is all one.<BR><BR>So, I develop <br />    the worlds greatest Juke Box and get it all going in Flex, then I move that <br />    into one Tab on one Screen in the AIR 'shell'.  Then some guys go off <br />    and mostly use AIR-unique code to add a Tab that allows Drag and Drop <br />    creation of Slide Shows accompanied by voice overs, and another set of my <br />    guys go off to add the 'Sudoku' module in just plain old Flex.  At some <br />    point in time in some ant task, we've got 10MB of code and X MBs of that is <br />    in one of our present [or future] swz files.  Where is the distinction <br />    that says I should just ask my users to download the whole shooting match, <br />    when what he really wants to do is just download whatever updated or new <br />    application modules [including any upgrades to your frameworks] when <br />    required.<BR><BR>So, it took some time, but today, my application is <br />    compiled with dynamic linking to the framework.swz, and when the user <br />    launches his AIR application on the desktop, the Flash Player, embedded in <br />    the AIR environment, is smart enough to find that it already has the <br />    necessary framework code and does not need to go back to the network to get <br />    it refreshed.  Actually, since I could never figure out how to use <br />    Module and ModuleManager, the method for solving the framework caching <br />    problem ended up just being an extension of what I developed for version <br />    management 'with continuous update' of my own swf files.  So, when the <br />    AIR shell starts up, it needs to test to see whether there is any updating <br />    to be done, or whether it already has locally available the 'latest and <br />    greatest' and that works the same for MyCute3DWizBang.swf or <br />    framework_3.1.0.2710.swz or framework_4.0.0.3988.swf.<BR><BR>If you take the <br />    point of view that a 'desktop application' doesn't need to do anything <br />    special to solve the problem of 'large file downloads', you end up thinking <br />    that there is no reason for an AIR application to take advantage of the <br />    frameworked cache when, in fact, almost all of that code is needed whether <br />    the execution thread starts in a 'WindowApplication' or just a plain old <br />    'Application'.  At least thats the cockamaymee point of view that I <br />    came to in the absence of any 'best practice' discussion of these key topics <br />    --  so far, it seems to be working pretty well, but as you can guess, <br />    testing across a network to a remote host that may or may not have the right <br />    version of AIR, or the right version of framework, or the right version of <br />    MyCute3DWizBang  is really more important than just testing against <br />    ADL. <BR><BR><BR>----- Original Message ----- From: "Matt Chotin" &lt;<A <br />    href="mailto:[email protected]" <br />    target=_blank>[email protected]</A>&gt;<BR>To: &lt;<A <br />    href="mailto:[email protected]" <br />    target=_blank>[email protected]</A>&gt;<BR>Sent: Monday, November <br />    03, 2008 8:39 PM<BR>Subject: Re: How to Test AIR 1.5<BR><BR><BR><br />    <BLOCKQUOTE class=gmail_quote <br />    style="PADDING-LEFT: 1ex; flash remoting is built-in in CF7, and unless you need to
    enable
integration of webs services, you do not need to change
    anything
to test if fr is enabled, just go to
    http://localhost/flashservices/gateway
    - if you see a blank page in
response you are good to go
you will obviously need MM/Adobe Flash to make flash movies
    that
get/post data with remoting... keep in mind, though, that
    flash
remoting components were included with Flash only up to ver 8
    (Flash CS3
does not have them at all, since it uses a different approach
altogether; though you can still make it work with components
    for
previous flash versions, it is a bit of a PIA...)
i am sure others will add a lot to this (i am just a casual
    flash
remoting coder/user - it is not my sharpest knife...)
a few websites that helped me get going were:

  • In elements 11 how do I make a finished movie return to the start menu?

In Elements 11 how do I make a finished movie return to the start menu?

    Maud23
I just got through a run through of your issue using Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 and Premiere Elements 11 on Windows 7 64 bit and my TV DVD player.
Whether it was Premiere Elements 8.0/8.0.1 or Premiere Elements 11 with or without menu markers on the project's Timeline, the DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc produced played back the same on my TV DVD Player.
    Results...
No disc menus and with or without scene markers on the Timeline
    Timeline - color matte - jpg 1, jpg 2, jpg3, jpg 4, jp5
Hitting Play, played back was from the color matte to the jp5 and then back to the DVD player logo, not the color matte.
If I applied a disc menu (just main menu page, no scene markers on the Timeline)
    Timeline - color matte - jpg1, jpg2, jpg3, jpg4, jp5
The main menu would automatically appear. When I hit Play (only option since no scene markers/no Scene Selection button on the main menu), the playback would start at the color matte, continue to jpg5, and then return to the main menu page, not the DVD player logo nor the color matte.
Again, it did not matter if the DVD-VIDEO described above was created in version 8.0/8.0.1 or 11, same results.
I did not explore fully TV DVD settings to determine if answers could be found on the TV DVD player side of things. I have not found them.
Could you elaborate on what you wrote
At the start I chose to use a single slide from the Elements 11 menu selection.
Are you saying that whatever you did there was consistent with you getting what you wanted when you did that but used version 8.0/8.0.1 instead of 11? From what you wrote, I am wondering if what you did was to apply just the main menu of a disc menu to the project to get what you wanted just like I did in my road testing of the issue tonight.
We will be watching for further details.
    Thank you.

  • How to test a function module?

how to test a function module?

    hi there,
ur query is quite old and i think some1 may hav answers it but still i feel this might help you if ur query is still  unanswered.
its a total description of  how to create a fuction module and executre the same
its a simple example and might help you to understand  what and how the things are happening.
see this might be of some help.
to create function module you have to create a a function group.
and then you create function module.
in function module you have to give IMPORT , EXPORT PARAMETER and EXCEPTION.
and also the SOURCE CODE without which the function module will be sytaxtically correct but you will get processing error.
here is the procedure of creating Function Group and Function Module
    FOR Group
    goto SE37
move to GOTO and the to function groups and create .
just fill the fields poped up.
    FOR Module
now in the se37 screen put the name of the function module you want to create and press create .
there will be a pop asking for function group name now here put you function group name which you have created.
now after pressing save you will have a screen in which you have to enter the import, export, exception and the source code.
in import parameter you can put this(for example)
    parameter type associate type
    num1 type i
    num2 type i
    export parameter
    parameter type associate type
    res type i
    exception
    parameter type associate type
    not a valid entry.
    source code
    res = num1+num2.
    if num1 eq 0
    raise not a valid entry.
    end if
    save activate .
    and exicute(press8)
    award pionts only if helpful

With the newest Airport firmware (7.6.1), it seems I should be able to do this.
Really? I need to check that out!
You should certainly be able to add content by reference to itunes from such a disk (even before the update) - so long as itunes knows the location of the file (set Preferences not to copy to local library when adding the media) it will stream it to AppleTV if the disk is available.
I hope you're right, but I'd be surprised if current Extremes can be upgarded to provide a full Home Sharing service - marvellous if they can but I'd be surprised as i've long said we need an Apple media server either based on TC or AE to do this kind of thing.
