How to transfer all from dying Treo to a replacement?
I've got a Treo 755p (Sprint), which has suffered the well-known earphone jack failure. A Sprint repair store is getting me a "new" (refurbished) 755p to replace it; then I have to give them the old one. They say all they can transfer from the old one to the "new" one is Contacts. Fine. But I want to move *everything* to the replacement--including third-party applications such as TreoAuto and my beloved DateBk 6 and ListPro. Is this really possible, or will I have to dig out my original installation disks for those programs and install all over again, in which case I think I'll go back to keeping a calendar on 3x5 cards with a quill pen.
I use the standard Palm conduits to move stuff between the device and my computer, so I have a Backup file. I don't use Outlook to synch, but I could if I had to. I run BackupBuddy frequently, so there's a copy of everything (I assume) on the Mini-SD card that I'll remove from the old Treo when I hand it over. I also plan to do a factory reset when the handopver occurs.
To make things more complicated, or perhaps less so, I have an old Tungsten 5 (and a lot of its predecessors). Can I copy everything from the "old" Treo to the T-5 (which has its own SD card) to serve as another backup before I hand over the Treo? When it comes to computer stuff, I'm a belt-and-suspenders person.

Thanks to everybody who replied--and replied so quickly--to my query about transferring data between Treo 755ps. I have one more question: Since I'm addicted to a belt-and-two-pair-of-suspenders approach to everything, I'd like also to back up the data from the old Treo to an even older Tungsten T5 that I have, just in case something goes wrong. Does anybody know the correct workflow for doing this? Do I need to dig out the conduits that came with the T5 an use them for a transfer? (I have access to another computer on which I could install the T5 programs without confusing my desktop.) Can I do this extra backup using BackupBuddy VFS Pro (v.4.4), which I already use religiously on my Treo?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

Well, you sink everything on your 3GS onto your laptop/computer. Then you reset your iPhone 4. When you are restarting it, add all those apps music (ect) On to it. It seems difucult but for more info call Apple. I did that and he lead me step by step on how to do it. Well hope this helped~~

Your music should be in your iTunes library, that is how it gets synced to the iPod. If that music is not present in the iTunes library, you will need to get a 3rd party software for the computer to get the music off the original iPod and then move it to the iTunes library to be able to sync it to the new iPod. I currently have 14,181 contacts that are on my computer, which an apple tech was nice enough to show me how to transfer all my contacts from my mac 2 "iCloud " account all though when ever I log into my "iCloud" account from a different web browser it still only shows 13,032. Meanwhile on my mac book pro, the "icloud" contact is still spinning like its trying to update the rest of the missing contacts. I have let the computer run for 2 days straight and still no progress. Is there a limit to how many contacts I store on "iCloud" I have upgraded to the extra 25 gigs per year. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it, because its also slowing down my mac book pro significantly causing it hard to do any other task on my computer....Any advice or help would be again greatly appreciated.
On the surface, it doesn't sound like you're reaching a limit in the number of contacts you can have.
I would first create a contacts archive (file >> export) for a backup. Then, go to system preferences >> icloud and uncheck contacts. Reboot. Return to those preferences and recheck contacts.

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. I think it would be easier to have all my pictures on my laptop, but I do not know how to transfer them from one computer to another. How can I do this?
If they are synced photos just copy the folders with the photos to the new computer. Synced photos are not associated with iTunes or the iTunes library.

What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!
