How to transfer all settings, add-ons, etc from XP to Win7

Is there a way or program whereby I can transfer all my settings, plug-ins, add-ons, etc from Firefox 3.6 on XP to new Windows7 install. So I can just start Firefox on the new system an all my settings are like they were on the old OP?

User data is stored in the profile folder, there are some add-ons and utilities that can help you copy the profile folder from one computer to another. The first one is the FEBE add-on ([https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/febe/]) which can be used to copy a profile. Another option is the free MozBackup utility ([http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/])

    Hello Everyone,
Just wish to ask the community at large if the following advice I received is totally correct?
When I move over to Windows 8 in october
I will be upgrading from Win7-Home Premium- currently 32bit
Now my Dell Studio Laptop 1737 (2008-9) is I beleive 64bit capable.so it says anyway.
I was told all I need to do to save ALL my settings as above.is copy the current Firefox folder and path to the same folder in Win8
    Is This Correct?
I know there are programmes which can do this function, but I do not wish to have to add everything yet again and that includes scripts!

  • I just updated to Firefox 4.0 and how do I change the Add-ons window from opening in a tab (I prefer the old window style)?

After updating to Firefox 4.0, I am unable to get the Add-ons tab (ctrl-shift-A) to open in a separate window like it did in 3.6. Where may I find the option/plugin/addon to be able to do this?

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • How do I transfer all my files, programs, etc from my 10.5.8 OS X IMAC to my new Mavericks IMac?

I am looking to migrate all my files, photos, Word & Excel files over to my new IMac from a older 10.5.8 OS X IMac.  The Migration Assistant does not work.
Can I also get my MS Office programs to move over?   I am NOT tech savvy in the least.   Is this something I can tackle myself?
    Thanks

Discover if you were using a PowerPC Mac.
Is my iMac an iMac PPC or Intel?
If you were, you'll need this tip for migrating:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295
If not, you just need to find Intel native counterparts to your old PowerPC software:
https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271 and just save the documents while they are on 10.5 to a more portable format for 10.7 and later.

  • How do I re-install a new firefox 7 (or even revert to 6) and keep my settings & add-ons?

Sigh, wish I'd never upgraded. FF7 has been a hassle because of the constant crashes and unexpected slowdowns on numerous web sites (I have a decent computer, intel i5, 8gb ram, but I also have 1-2 dozen tabs open most of the time).
I'm thinking maybe a fresh start on firefox (I've been on this "profile" for several years now) may help. But I don't want to lose all the add-ons I've put in (including some of the ones I've disabled, but would like to keep anyway, since they may be useful in the future).
I can recover my bookmarks and firefox settings through Firefox sync, I assume. I have my passwords saved locally using roboform, and I don't care about my history, etc.
So, how do I re-install a new copy of firefox 7 (or maybe even revert back to 6) and get my add-ons back (a better way than making a list and installing each individually) and possibly keep some of the settings of these add-ons (I know some of them will let me export their settings)? Thanks.

Firefox 8 comes out Nov 8, look for it on the 9th unless you like to try all day to see if Help>About shows an update. Actually if your anxious try mozilla.com on the 8th.

  • I bought a used iphone 4 today. how to transfer all my old and important data including apps and email settings from old iphone 3gs to the used iphone 4?

i bought a used iphone 4 today. how to transfer all my old and important data including apps and email settings from old iphone 3gs to the used iphone 4? that means, making the iphone 4 just like the iphone 3gs?

Well, you sink everything on your 3GS onto your laptop/computer. Then you reset your iPhone 4. When you are restarting it, add all those apps music (ect)  On to it. It seems difucult but for more info call Apple. I did that and he lead me step by step on how to do it. Well hope this helped~~

  • My old PC is about to die. How do I transfer all my data, apps etc to a new PC

I have been backing up my iPhone and also iPad2 on an old Windows PC which is soon to die - it seems. I would like to transfer all data, apps, contact, etc to my new Mac but cannot sync via iTunes as all existing apps will be deleted. There must be a way to transfer from one PC to another and then sync with eth new one, but how please??

The SyncToy tip will help to get your current library archived to an external drive so that you can migrate it from the PC to the Mac. However you should not in general attempt to merge two different library folders with this tool. Where two files have the same relative path within the two synced folders the newest will overwrite the oldest. In the case of your library database files this might have unintended consequences. Instead move the existing iTunes folder on the Mac out of the way, restore the migrated library from the PC into your profile's music folder so that it becomes the default library, then import any additional content from the media folder within the previously moved library.

How to transfer all lightroom settings from one pc to an other?

If you are talking about moving Lightroom and all your images to another PC, then this might help:

If something different, please clarify what it is you are wanting to do.

  • How can I duplicate the same settings (add-ons AND bookmarks) from Firefox on one machine to another

From memory, it used to be possible to create a srtup file of sorts to re-create/re-establish not only bookmarks but also all the add-ons from one Firefox to another - on a different machine. In short, I would like to have them to be identical.

You need to mount that other partition to be able to access files on it and then browse to the hidden profile folder on that partition.
    /home/user/.mozilla/firefox
You can only restore a JSON backup, unless you export the bookmarks in that other OS to an HTML file.

  • How do I know which add-ons have been validated as safe? When clicking "Add to Firefox" I get the scary warning window about only using add-ons from trusted

The scary warning that appears when I click "Add to Firefox" for a certain add-on discourages me from actually installing it.
"Install add-ons only from authors whom you trust. Malicious software can damage your computer or violate your privacy . . . (author not verified)"
In particular, I'm interested in the Password Exporter add-on. I want to be especially cautious as this will access all my passwords stored in Firefox. How do I actually know if an add-on is safe or not?

If you are talking about "Password Exporter 1.2.1", it's safe as I have been using that add-on for years and love it.

  • Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.

Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.?

I don't know if I'm asking this all in a way that can be understood? Thanks ED3K, however that part I do understand (in the link you provided!)
What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!
Thanks again for "anyone" that can help me!!!

  • How to transfer printer settings from one Mac to another (both OSX)?

Hello, I have not found a detailed description on how to transfer printer settings from one Mac to another.
My issue is that I have a Mac G5 with 3 different settings saved as "presets" for the same printer. This works great, since the posters I print (on the large format printer) need different margins and different paper at times.
This G5 is basically retired and only used for printing. G5 has OSX 10.3.9
I have a MacPro as its replacement (OSX 10.4.11).
The MacPro has all my apps and other settings setup to my liking.
I found several links via Google saying copy this folder or directory, but I am not sure I did it correctly. I don't see the "presets".
I tried launching the Migration Assistant (I hope that's the correct name), but was concerned the settings on the new MacPro would be overwritten with ALL the old stuff on the older G5. I did not start the transfer process because of this.
If someone would list the steps needed to accomplish the transfer of printer settings or advise if this is possible, then I would be very grateful! The previous user of the G5 I am using was a "Genius" and I don't know how he created these "preset" choices.
    Thanks!

Hi SCChelpdesk, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I found several links via Google saying copy this folder or directory, but I am not sure I did it correctly. I don't see the "presets".
This is the File that holds that info on Tiger, not certain on Panther...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
After moving, you very well might have to change the Owner's Permissions within Get Info window, then log out/in.
I tried launching the Migration Assistant (I hope that's the correct name), but was concerned the settings on the new MacPro would be overwritten with ALL the old stuff on the older G5. I did not start the transfer process because of this.
MA would transfer the info, but/and, if the user that had that info had the same Shortname as on the new one, it'll demand you give it a new Shortname to use... but then those settings would be transferred to that new user on the new machine. I think the 1st one will work though.
The previous user of the G5 I am using was a "Genius" and I don't know how he created these "preset" choices.
We can go through that way if you like... not all that hard.

  • Hi i just got a new mac pro and i wanted to know how to transfer all my music from my old desktop to my new mac?

hi i just bought the macbook pro and i wanted to know how i can transfer all my music on itunes from my old desktop to my new macbook?

Derek's right. To explain his second point more, you can mount your old Mac's hard drive on your new one and once you've done this you can simply drag your music folder over.
You can mount various ways, if you have a router and both are on your LAN network I believe u use the Go menu in your new Mac to mount your old one.
You can also use a cable directly between the two. I did this years agonwith ethernet but I bet USB or even FireWire is possible.
Once you get your music copied over, you may need to add your music into your Mac's iTunes.
Open iTunes and then select Add to Library and then find your music folder to add. You can add single songs or folders of songs or your entire folder of all songs.
