    Transfer Iphoto file to flashdrive

Drag and drop it. If the flash drive is formatted NTFS (Windows) you will need to erase and reformat it in Disk Utility to either Mac or exFAT format to be able to write to it.

  • How do I copy files from a seperate hard drive to Bridge

How do I copy files from a seperate hard drive and paste them to Bridge

Bridge is just a file Browser, nothing more and nothing less.  It doesn't create folders of its own and it doesn't keep image files in the application itself.
You don't "paste" anything "into" Bridge.  You just navigate Bridge to the other drive where the images are, point it toward said files, and Bridge will show them to you.
Once you find your files, you can use Bridge to move them or copy them to wherever you want.  They will never be "inside" Bridge.  As soon as you disconnect the other hard drive, Bridge will have no record of them unless you copy them over to a drive that is always attached to your computer, such as your boot drive or another internal drive.
Recapping;  Your images are never in Bridge.

  • How do I delete files from a portable hard drive

I've been backing up my MacBook Pro on an external portable hard drive. I need to delete some but not all the files from that portable hard drive permanently. When I highlight them and click to move them to Trash I get a message telling me this cannot be done because they are Read Only files? How do I go about it. I am required by work to delete them off this hard drive. Do I have to reformat the hard drive? If so how do I go about it?

You can easily delete files from a Time Machine Backup:
Click the Time Machine icon in the Dock.If the Time Machine icon isn’t in the Dock, look for Time Machine in the Applications folder.
Use the arrows or the timeline along the right side of your screen to browse through the backups Time Machine created. The windows behave just like Finder windows, so you can open folders, click items in the sidebar, and use the search field in the upper-right corner of the window.
When you find the item you want to delete, select it, and then open the Action menu (looks like a gear) and choose Delete All Backups for the item.

  • How can I copy files from an external hard drive without creating copies on the disk?

I recently purchased a MacBook Air as part of a requirement for schoolwork. I decided to use it to sync music to my iPod and iPhone, and it worked perfectly well, however, i keep most of my music files on an external hard drive. Recently, it started sending me messages about the hard drive being almost full. I checked on the about this Mac screen, and it said that up to 95 gigabytes on the disk drive had been taken up by music. This was not my intention, as i had previously assumed the music was kept on my external hard drive as it had been on windows. I attempted to delete the folder, but it now said that my disk drive was taken up by "other" files. I want to still use my iTunes without these files copying. How?

    Hi flyingroastchicken,
If the songs are being stored on your Mac, then make sure that the location of where the iTunes media is being store. Take a look at the article below to verify that you have it set up the way you want.

  • How do I transfer music files from a portable hard drive to my current iTunes library?

Last year I moved from a desk top to a Mac. Geek squad helped me save my previous iTunes libarary to an external hard drive. I'm not a sophisticated user by any means, and I cannot figure out how to copy the music files from the external drive into my current iTunes library on my new Mac. Help, please.

Drag the files to the internal drive and from there into the iTunes application window.

  • How do I recover files from an internal hard drive that is no longer recognized?

    Hi there,
Any help on this problem is greatly appreciated!  I have a MacBook Pro (late 2009) running Snow Leopard.  Over the last few years, after having brought the computer in to get checked, it seems that the RAM cards have gotten loose (or the bottom cover of the computer gets loose) and occasionally a grey curtain will come down from the top of the screen and everything stops working.  Restarting the computer is often fine but sometimes it can't be restarted and I have to take the cover off, reset the RAM cards in their slots, and retighten the cover.  The computer usually works fine after that, but verifying the disk using Disk Utility will sometimes indicate there is an error and the disk needs to be repaired.  Repairing it in Disk Utility is usually fine.
Last year this happened but the disk could not be repaired. The operating system could still be run, and after making a backup of all my files I reinstalled the operating system from the installation DVD, which didn't delete any of my files on the hard drive anyway.
A few days ago the same grey curtain issue happened, however upon resetting the RAM and back cover and restarting the computer, the apple logo appeared which was quickly replaced by a prohibitory sign, which stayed on the screen indefinitely.  After putting in the installation DVD and trying to reinstall the operating system, when the option comes up to choose which disk to install OS X on, the internal hard drive does not appear as an option.  Going to Disk Utility from the DVD, the internal hard drive appears on the left but the text is greyed out.  Attempting to repair the disk gives the following error message:
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Invalid key length
    Invalid record count
Catalog file entry not found for extent
The volume    could not be verified completely.
Error: Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
While I know I could completely erase and reformat the disk, I really don't want to lose any of my files (ideally).  If I erase the disk but select "Don't Erase Data" from the "Security Options..." in the "Erase" tab in Disk Utility, will this keep all my files in tact and will I be able to access them later?  Are there third party applications that can recover my files so I can make a back up before I delete and reformat the hard drive?  I am currently running the computer through an external hard drive connected by USB, but the internal hard drive still doesn't show up in Finder (only in Disk Utility as greyed out text).
    Can I recover my files?
    Thanks so much!

Try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't erase the drive or write anything else to it until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

  • How can I copy files from one external hard drive to another, without erasing anything?

    Hi,
I have video and photo files on one hard drive. I'd like to keep that one intact but also copy all the files to a second external hard drive. When I try to do so, I can't figure out how to open both hard drives at once. (If I open one, it closes the other window.)
    Thanks for your help!
    CB

Open a finder window and open up one harddrive. Then go to file>new finder window. This way you can have two finders up and select a different harddrive in each one. Then just copy and paste the files.
    Hope it helps!

  • How do I move files from a portable hard drive to my MacBook Pro?

Hope someone can help with this. I recently got myself a MacBook Pro and I'm having problems transferring files from my old Windows XP based laptop. I downloaded the Windows Migration Assistant onto my old laptop but everytime I tried to run it I got various error messages telling me I needed to upgrade this and that. Now the laptop has decided to give in totally and won't switch on at all! I do have all my music etc backed up onto an external hard drive but when I connect it to my MacBook it just doesn't want to know, I assume as all the data on there is formatted as Windows. Has anyone got any tips about what I can do if anything next? Thanks

You should be able to read the external drive. Go to Finder and see if your external drive appears in "Devices". If it appears, press it and migrate the files you want
Thank you so much for your advice, I was panicking there for a moment thinking that I'd have to start from scratch! You are an absolutr STAR!

  • How do I delete files from an external hard drive?

I am running LR 3.6 on Windows 7 and keep my images on an external drive rather than my internal one. When I select the "delete from disk" option, it removes the file from the catalog but not from the external drive. I have to do this manually. What am I doing wrong?

It should be deleting from both the catalogue and disk.
Are you sure that you don't have two copies of the file on disk, and (of course) Lightroom only knows of one of them?
Try this:  before you delete a file, right-click on it and choose Show In Explorer. Then delete the file from disk using Lightroom. Does it disappear from the open Explorer window? (You might need to right click in the Explorer window and choose Refresh.
After your experiment, get back to us.

  • Help...How to I get files from my external hard drive into my Library!

I ran out of space on my PC's hard drive, so I bought an external drive, and copied everything over there. I deleted the files on my PC's hard drive, and changed the setting in iTunes to look for files on the external drive. The trouble is, there are no files in my library now. If I search for an individual song and double click on it, it starts to play, and shows up in my iTunes library.
Is there a quick way to get all the songs into my library?
    Many thanks,

I advised to uncheck the option to copy files to iTunes Music Folder when adding to library simply because it creates 2 copies of a given file.
If you have your files on the external drive, and you uncheck that option, and then add the files into the library, no copies are going to be made, so you don't want to delete anything.
If you want to see if the files are on your external, I'd suggest looking at it through Windows Explorer. Just open up My Computer and open up the drive icon representing your external. If you see the files on there, and they're on your internal as well, you can go ahead and delete them from whichever volume you don't want them stored on.
If the files are on your local drive and you want to move them to the external, you can do this with iTunes. Click Edit > Preferences, click the Advanced tab, click the General tab beneath it. Set the iTunes Music folder location to your external drive (where you want the files to end up). Make sure that the option to copy files IS CHECKED. Then, click OK. Then, from the Advanced menu, click on Consolidate Library. This will basically create a copy of every file in your library in the destination specified as your iTunes Music folder location.
Sorry if all this adds to the confusion. Sometimes it's a little difficult to know what options affect what actions within iTunes. Post back if you have any other questions and I'll do my best to help you out.

  • How to import recovered files from an external hard drive

My hard drive crashed. I got a new one and of course lost my itunes.  I had the recovered data put on an external hard drive.  How do I re import my data back into Itunes?

    Hello David,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
If you have the entire iTunes library folder on that recovered drive, you can copy it to your new computer and use this article to choose that iTunes library that you just copied to the new computer.
