How to transfer data and pictures etc to my new Mac from my old Dell Pc?

How to transfer data, pictures, and etc. From my old Dell PC to my new Macbook Pro.
Thank you in advance.

A USB thumb drive is best, install the free ClamXav to run a scan on it first.
Windows malware doesn't affect a Mac, but you could have weird issues or transfer them to another PC user.

how to transfer music and pictures from iphone to computer

If the music was purchased from iTunes then you should be able to copy them over to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases if you have iTunes 11 on your computer). If the music came from other sources and you don't have a copy of them anywhere else, then there are some programs listed half-way down this page which might be able to copy them back : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
For photos taken with the phone then on a PC you can use the windows camera wizard, and on a Mac you can use Image Capture, iPhoto or Aperture : copying photos. To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to a device, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There are different ways to transfer your data from another Mac, but as you just want to transfer pictures and music, the best way is to use an external drive. You can also connect them with a Thunderbolt or FireWire cable, but you need specific Macs to do it, so I prefer the external drive method.
You just have to get an external drive and plug it to the old Mac. Then, open Finder, navigate to the folders with your pictures and music, and drag them to the external drive in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices".
Then, connect the external drive to the new Mac and you will see the external drive in the Finder sidebar after opening a Finder window, so choose it. Then, just copy the pictures and music to the folder you want, for example, Music or Pictures

  • HT4527 My old mac book was backed up to a Time Machine drive.  That Macbook is dead.  I have a new Mac Mini.  How do I get the iTunes library (not just the music files but all other data...playlists, ratings, etc) on the new Mac from my Time Machine?

My old Mac died. I had it backed up to a Time Machine external drive (fortunately).  I have a new Mac. I want to get my entire iTunes library from the Time Machine drive to the new Mac. I want not only the music files but all the "library" metadata, playlists, song rankings, unique genre designations. How do I do this?

No backup is a huge mistake.
You can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

  • How do i put all my music on my new computer from my old computer

    Hello people
I really cant figure out how to transfer my music. Theres got a better solution than burning it on to cds and then transfering that way! Could someone please help me i am a complete idiot when it come to technology.
    thank you
    maryd

Well your mac will have firewire but your dell may not have. Firewire isnt standard on all pcs.
If your pc has wireless lan then you could just try to share your music folder on your PC by right-clicking, going to sharing tab and turing it on for that folder. Next just see if you can wirelessly connect to your pc from your mac by clicking on the Go Menu in finder then Connect to Server and click browse.
Depending on how you have your pc setup your may see it on your mac right away then again you might need to change some network settings.
If you dont have wireless in your pc but do have a wired network port then you could buy a cross over network cable and connect the two machines with that and repeat the Connect to Server routine. If this doesnt work you could try installing Bonjour from the apple support area onto your pc as this is supposed to aid connectivity between mac and pc. I think its mainly for networking printers etc but may help. I have it on my pc and connected instantly to it at the first attemp with my macbook.
Of course, you could just burn a load of cds with your music on as im guessing that will sound a lot easier after reading all of the above! :P

  • Firefox: How can I take all my settings to a new Mac from Windows?

hey guys, i'm really considering getting a new Mac Mini. however, what's holding me back is Firefox. firefox is by far the application i use the most. i want to be able to take my current bookmarks, passwords and settings from this Firefox, which is on Windows 7 and move it over to the new Mac. is this possible?
whenever i've needed to re-install Firefox on a new Windows machine i've always just installed firefox and then copied over my Firefox profile which is located here: C:\Users\***\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles and this brings over all of my settings, bookmarks, passwords so it's like i'm using the same install from where i left off.
i thought maybe i could just export the settings from Firefox on Windows to Safari and then bring the safari settings over to the new Mac. i've never used Safari before and i don't mind learning a new browser, but i really want to be able to bring over all of my old Firefox settings like passwords and bookmarks.
    how can this be done?
    thanks

ok, thanks a lot. seems like i'll be fine as long as i remember to change the profile name. i'm guessing it's not necessary to change the profile name back when i go back to Windows?
so just change the profile name to the Mac default name and copy it from the USB. what about when i take the profile back to Windows?
There is a file in both Windows and the Mac stored outside the profile directory which records the name of the default directory established when Firefox and/or Thunderbird are installed, and, probably any other profiles which are set up if there's more than one user so you can choose which profile to look at when the program is started (I haven't used it that way in so long that I'm just assuming multiple profiles will work that way).
The point is that when either program is started up, it looks to see what the name of the profile folder should be, and if it's not there (because you didn't switch the profile name when you moved it between machines), it'll just set up a new empty one with the already issued default name. Since it'll do that no matter which direction the transfer is going, the default profile name of the receiving machine has to be respected and used.
BTW, if you copy the (visible) files in the Windows Thunderbird profile directory and move them over to the default directory on the Mac, the copied files will be recognized, but a new mail sub-directory will be set up that's empty because the profile needs such a directory and, being hidden on the PC, the real one was never moved with the rest of the files.

  • How do I migrate my iPhoto library to my new computer from my old one?

how do I migrate my existing iphoto library from my old iMac to my new Mac Book Pro?

Get a external hard drive and connect it to the older Mac, refuse TimeMachine if it asks.
Open your Pictures folder and drag and drop the iPhoto Library onto the drive icon, when finished unmount (drag to trash) the drive and connect it to the other Mac.
Reverse the same proceedure, replacing the new iPhoto Library with the older one and then start iPhoto, it will update the old database.
If you ever want to get the originals out, right click and "show package contents"  on the iPhoto Library, a folder called Originals holds your pictures, no iPhoto needed.

  • How do i get my itunes account on my new computer from my old one which is gone.....

had set up my new computer and i have accessed my itunes account....i can not get all the music i had from my other computer even though i am in the same account....y is this? I can cancel out the other account becausse none of those computers r operating right now.

Have you copied the backup of your music from your old computer onto your new one and done File > Add Folder to Library in iTunes ? If you are expecting to be able to re-download your music purchases from iTunes then you can't - media (music, films, tv shows) can only be downloaded once, which is why you are advised to make, and maintain, backups of any purchased content.

  • How can i transfer my iTunes account to my new mac from my old pc

I have an iPod classic and my itunes account was on my old pc.  How do I transfer my account to my Mac and sync my iPod without loosing all my playlists?

Your account is just  a user name and password.
It sounds like you want to move your itunes library.
The Apple Store will do this for you.
or you can call Apple Support and they will help.
or type "move itunes library from pc to mac" into the google search bar.

  • How to reinstall my adobe cs5 suite onto my new laptop from my old laptop?

I don't know what to do please help

YOu are allowed to have two activated installations, so if you wish to you can keep the original machine loaded as a backup.  If you do not want that then the minimum you should do on the old machine is deactivate the installation by opening one of the programs and selecting Help -> Deactivate.
To install on the new machine you need to acquire the installation files and install and activate just like you would have originally done for the old machine.  If you originally purchased the software as a download from Adobe then you might be able to find a link to download thru your account online.  You can also download thru the page linked below.  If you registered your software when you first installed it then you should be able to find your serial number in your online account as well.

  • Satellite L300 - How to transfer data from old HDD?

I have a toshiba Satellite 2410-504 which gave me the blue screen so I've bought a L300 to replace it.
tThere are documents and pictures I would like to retrieve from the old tosh -
Can I switch hard drives across if they are compatible or is there a lead to do this and how ...........................help!

The only way I know is you buy an external HDD case where you can put in the old HDD. Connect the old HDD that is the case with the USB cable to your new notebook and then you can copy your documents and pictures.
Such cases are not expensive and external HDDs are very practical.

  • How do I transfer all my data and applications to my new iPad from my old one ?

How do I transfer all my data and applications to my new iPad from my old one ?

This may also be useful.  Although backing up and restoring via iCloud works, doing it via iTunes may be better, and here's why:
Via iCloud your actual apps are not backed up, just a record of the fact that you legally own them.  When you restore, your new device knows it's OK to download and install them again from the App Store.  This is fine for all apps that are still available, but for those that have been removed from the App Store you're going to be without them.
It is also a lot faster to transfer a ton of apps from iTunes via the cable than to download them all over wifi.
Another advantage of doing it via iTunes is that all your network/wifi settings and passwords will be included in the backup/restore process.  (Make sure you have selected "encrypted backup" for this to happen.)  This way you will not need to mess around typing them all in again.
I've tried both methods and would definitely recommend going "old school" via iTunes for these reasons.  Hope this helps.
