How to transfer edited FCP project back to miniDV tape

Hi to all. I'm trying this for the 1st time, and it didn't work. I have a feeling I'm missin some connection between my Sony GV-D1000 miniDV deck and the G5 computer.
I'm trying to get back to tape my edited version (non-compressed).
From FCP I went to File - Print to Video. The software recognized the deck and it seemed to be recording, but when rewound the tape and played it back, nothing was there.
Any assistance of course is highly valued and appreciated. Currently, I'm connected to the computer via a firewire cable (to the back of the deck with a DV connection.

Make sure you can SEE it on the Deck first.
Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • How to transfer an FCP project to Windows Premiere Pro

I've tried to do the XML thing, and I have gotten a project across, but unable to find the media on the drive.
I'm using an external drive and MacDrive software on my PC, so the files are direct from the timeline. I've even used FCP's media manager.
I know there must be a way to do this, and I'm counting on the brain power on this forum to help.
    Any suggestions are welcome.

I have many projects made in imovie HD that are not updating to iMovie 10 on my new iMac.  Why is this not working as stated on the article HT202853?  How do I get my projects back from backup after old iMac crashed?

    According to:
Update projects and events from previous versions of iMovie in iMovie (2014) - Apple Support
you can update from iMovie versions 7, 8 and 9, but iMovie HD is iMovie 6.
Maybe you can update in two steps, first from iMovie 6 to iMovie 7, 8 or 9 then to iMovie 10.

  • How do I export FCP project to DigiBeta -- what video card?

How can I export my 90 minute movie edited in FCP to a rented DigiBeta deck, so it will be broadcast quality? What video card do I need to buy? I can't afford an HD, so an SD card is fine for now. Where do I get one? And how much? Are they easy to install? Is it as easy as transferring to mini-DV, but to digibeta? Are there controls while transferring, or does it automatically make a perfect clone of the FCP project onto DigiBeta? I can't find info on video cards in SD anywhere for the MAC. Thank you.
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    See if this helps.
In the analog world, every generation - copying from one tape to the next - loses quality. A generation of BetaSP doesn't destroy the material, but a generation on VHS pretty much does.
If you have something important that is already on VHS, it will still lose some quality going to BetaSP. Probably not enough to matter, but the best quality will still come from that VHS tape.
    The analogy to digital video:
Contrary to what everybody thought in the early days, digital video often works the same way. As soon as you commit images to DV compression you have compressed it and lost a lot of the quality of the otiginal camera signal.
As soon as you apply transitions, filters, CC, etc. in editing, you are recompressing and losing more quality. Sometimes these two compressions create visible problems.
Fortunately, outputting that product to DV tape is a digital clone of the date and loses no quality. So there is nothing gained by going to DigiBeta from your system as compared to taking a tape out for transfer.
But when you take that DV edit from DV format to DigiBeta, it is being compressed again. It will lose quality. Not as much as another DV recompression, but enough to make any visible artifacting worse.
The best thing, in my oopinion, for you to do is to move your bits into a DigiBeta-equivalent sequence (is that the same as DVCPro50?) and render. Then find a way to get that into DigiBeta - most likely from hard drive at a service bureau or dub house.
The second best thing you can do is to tell the dub house that your deliverable is going to be DV. If it makes them feel any better you can provide it as a QT file.
In the end DigiBeta will not add to your quality but decrease it. Probably not a enough to matter, but enough to be a ridiculous requirement under the corcumstances.
Also consider whether they are working for you, or you are working for them.

  • How to transfer Avid XPress project on PC to Premiere CS4 on laptop?

    Hi,
I have the following problem: I have an Avid Xpress sytem on a PC and Premiere Pro CS4 on a laptop. I have a project on the PC that I would like to edit while travelling with the laptop - and I'm trying to work out how to transfer the project from one to the other (via an external hard drive).
I noticed that Premiere in the latest update supports AAF files, but when I export the Avid project as AAF, Premiere can read the info in the AAF file but somehow it does not recognise the associated OMF (media) files (i.e. it imports the AAF and then asks where a given OMF file is, but when you tell it, it says that the file format is not supported).
I read somewhere that an alternative would be via quicktime reference files - but the problem I see there is that if I want to transfer the media files to another drive, the quicktime reference file has no means of knowing where they are (or rather will think that they are still at the old place, because it does not ask for any location)?
Another thing may be that the original Avid OMF files might not be quite the right format for Premiere - there is also an option to export to OMF 1.0, but I'm not sure if that would help.
Any suggestions and help regarding transferring the project from one system to the other would be appreciated! Many thanks!

Um ... by basically re-doing the project ... as there's SO much added to CC since the CS6 version, the tools have changed, the available effects have changed, the underlying code has changed ... there's just so much that CC can do that can't be done in the old CS6 version.
You can try exporting an XML and importing that into CS6 ... sometimes that works better than others, it hath been stated. This is sort of like trying to put a modern engine with all the computer controlled gizmos & pollution controls & fuel injection and designed to work with a 5-speed auto transmission into a 1965 Chevelle. With the older 3-speed manual tranny. How do you do it? Rebuild everything ... both the engine & the car. Lot of work.

  • How to transfer imovie '09  projects between machines?

I was working on a project on my Air when on vacation and now can't move it back to my MacPro at home. I have tried the obvious and can get it to my desktop but the project is always greyed out when I try to import it.
Perhaps I'm missing something simple as I haven't used i movie much (using Final Cut Express on my MacPro.

Here is the HELP text: If this does not help you, see my next post for a workaround.
Copying or moving a project to an external hard disk
You can copy or move your video projects to a compatible external hard disk connected to your computer using a USB or FireWire cable.
Moving or copying projects is useful if you want to work on a project using another computer. You can connect a hard disk containing a project to another computer that has iMovie ‘09, and then work on the project on that computer.
Moving projects can also be useful if you want to save space on your computer’s hard disk.
To copy or move a project to another hard disk:
Connect a compatible external hard disk drive to your computer using a FireWire or USB 2.0 cable.
A hard disk icon appears in the Project Library.
NOTE:When using an external hard disk with iMovie, make sure it has been formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Select the project that you want to move or copy, and then do one of the following:
To copy the project, drag it to the icon of the hard disk where you want to copy it, and then choose “Copy project” or “Copy project and events.”
If you choose “Copy project,” none of the project’s video or other media is copied to the other disk. To edit the project, the computer you’re using must be connected to the hard disk that contains the media.
If you choose “Copy project and events,” the Events are copied to the other disk.
Either way, a copy of the Events remains in the original location, and any other projects using clips from those Events still refer to them at their original location.
To move the project, hold down the Command key as you drag the project to the icon of the hard disk where you want to copy it, and then choose “Move project” or “Move project and events.”
If you choose “Move project,” none of the project’s video or other media is copied to the other disk. To edit the project, the computer you’re using must be connected to the hard disk that contains the media.
If you choose “Move project and events,” the project and the Events used in the project are moved and deleted from their original location. Any other projects using clips from those Events refer to them at their new location.
If you’re moving a large amount of video at once, this process may take several minutes.
You can also move or copy Events to an external hard disk.
You can also quickly consolidate all the media used in a project onto the same disk as the project. This makes it easy to collect a complete project onto one disk that you can then edit from any computer using iMove ‘09.

  • How to transfer an unfinished project from premiere pro 2014 to premiere pro cs6

  • Editing FCP project audio in another audio application (Logic, PT or DP)

Many thanks in advance for any help - I am wrapping up a score for a friend's documentary and just don't have time or video knowledge to figure this out on my own.
I need to edit sound in his Final Cut Pro project in another application. Pro Tools, Logic or Digital Performer. I can't just get AIF bounces because in many cases I need to access his edits, requiring much of the raw audio immediately preceding and following his cuts.
What is the quickest way to do this? Do OMF files preserve raw audio? XML?
Again, many thanks for your input.

I found the XML approach to be the most reliable, but you need access to the full FCP project and all the assets for Logic to load it, which can be a pain due to project sizes.
OMF works, but doesn't preserve some of the audio mix settings, despite including them in the file. Sometimes this is important, sometimes less so. Not sure if recent versions of Logic have improved this behaviour.
Either will get the audio into Logic at the right places and preserves edits, and OMF is the simpler way of doing it. I can't remember offhand if the OMF export allows you to add handles on the audio - in the main what OMF does is repackage out the audio into new audio files inside the OMF bundle, so you get everything in the timeline but not audio either side of the cuts.
Edit: Yes, OMF export does give you the option of adding handles on the audio files.
If you need everything, the using XML and the original assets is the way to go imo.
Otherwise, OMF will get you the audio in a more convenient package (one file with all the embedded audio reexported inside it.)

I really need to transfer my finished product in iMovie back to tape on my miniDV camcorder. It works perfectly when using iMovieHD (it has an export function specifically for transferring back to miniDV cam). Is there any way to do this with the latest iMovie?

    No, you cannot.

  • Laptop crashed and how to transfer music from ipod back to laptop and won't transfer new purchases to ipod?

My laptop crashed about 2 days ago. I got it fixed and had to reinstall it. I had to reinstall itunes all over again. How do I transfer all my songs from my ipod including the ones that were from hardcopies and by hardcopies I mean cds I bought in real life and is on a disc. All of the songs are still on my ipod so how do I upload all of the songs and videos (purchases, music/songs from hardcopies/cds uploaded not bought from itunes, etc...?) How would I upload all of that back to itunes on my laptop? Another question is for some reason when I hook up my ipod to my laptop, I recently bought 23 songs about a day ago and it won't upload those purchases to my ipod, is it because I have all the hardcopies and downloads on my ipod that the itunes library doesnt have? Also, how would I sync my newest purchases to my ipod efficiently without deleting any of the hardcopies I uploaded before my laptop crashed?

phonefans is a spammer, ignore his posts.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.

  • How do I get my project back? I closed it in the File window.

I closed my project in the file window, and I accidently saved and closed premire pro. When I opened it again, all my video clips and other stuff was there, but none of my edited work. How do I get it back?

Sequence will still be in the Project Window.
You just saved a Project with the sequence closed.

  • How to put edited AE clips back into PPro? (CS5.5)

    Okay, so, here it goes.
I edit my main footage in Premiere Pro. I recently purchased a denoising software that only is compatible with After Effects, so I have been using the denoiser plugin in After Effects. After I edit my basic video cut in Premiere, I select all of the clips (including audio) in the timeline, and open it in a new AE comp. After it has been opened, I do all of my major video touch ups in AE (such as denoising). Now, when I try to export the project as a Premiere Pro (PP) project and open it in Premiere, it doesn't load the project. It's just an empty sequence. That is not a big deal though, because I tried something else. I tried linking the AE composition from AE to PP which works, but it is very slow and precomposes all of the individual clips into one video clip.
So, just to go over it again, this is what I did: Cut clips in PP > Selected all clips in the timeline of PP and opened them in a new AE comp > Edited the individual clips inside the AE comp w/ effects that are not supported by PP (only AE supports the denoiser effect) > opened the edited AE comp in PP > then the comp came up as a precomposed video clip instead of individual clips.
So, my question is, how do I get the comp from AE to stay as individual clips when I open it in PP in case I need to adjust something? Is there a way to do this? Or should I just do the denoise effect very last?
    Two other things:
    (1) I noticed that it is extremely slow in PP to render parts of an AE comp... is it just because of the added effects?
    (2) I transcode my video footage to ProRes 422 before I bring them into PP. Once I bring the clips into AE and then back into PP (if I figure out how to), will the clips still be the same ProRes codec? I need them to be the same codec due to color grading and effects later on in post.
Thank you SO MUCH if you can answer this! ANY help is appreciated! I explained this pretty much as good as I can, so if you don't understand my question, just ask, and I'll try to give you more info. Thanks!!

I select all of the clips (including audio) in the timeline, and open it in a new AE comp.
That's where you messed up.  Instead, right click on each clip you want to fix, and choose Replace with After Effects Composition.  Then redo your effects.

  • How to transfer old Voice Memos back into Memos on app iPhone?

I have just upgraded to ios 7 and it has deleted all of my old Voive Memos from my iPhone. I still have them all in my iTunes, but how can i transfer them back into the Voice Memos app on the phone?
Whenever I select to import voice memos from iTunes on my MacBook, all it does is load them into Music on my phone. But they dont show up in the voice memos app, and having them all in the music folder on my phone is really annoying because whenever i record a new memo in voice memos it stays in voice memos and then i have them in two places...
This is only a problem with all of my old voice memos that ios 7 deleted.... is there a way to transfer them back into voice memos on the phone and not have to store them seperately in the phones music folder?
    Thanks in advance.

thanks for the reply, although this wasn't actually how i did it.
Selecting genre as "Voice Memo" didn't seem to make any difference, but going to the file info, then options, and then selcting "media kind" and "voice memo", NOT "music", is how i did it in the end.
Then all i had to do was check "include voice memos".
    Cheers!

  • TS1500 How to transfer edited pictures from iPad to Windows 7

    Hi,
This seems pretty obvious, but I couldn't get the answer with google.
I imported pictures with the camera kit, then opened the photo gallery, click on edit for many pictures to do mostly crops and save.
Now, I want to transfer all the imported pics and the modified ones to my PC. I can see the DCIM folder and import the original pics, but I really want the edited ones... I have no clue how to get them. Shouldn't be simplier? If not I will never waste time again editing pictures in the iPad.
    Thanks,
    Damián.

    Hi Tom,
Please tell me that you tried this method. You edited a pic and then transfer it to the PC and it is not the original one.For me it is not working.
I think this is the same as copying directly from the DCIM folder.
    Thanks.
    Damián.
