Yes. You'll be given the option to migrate your data from it while setting up the iMac.

You can use your external hard drive that is used to backup your important data to transfer the data from your PC to your Mac.
If your Windows 7 PC is a laptop and you live near an Apple store, make an appointment at the Genius bar where they will help you transfer the data you want transferred from your PC to your MBP.

  • How To Transfer Files From Windows XP?

I want to transfer some pictures and documents from my Windows XP SP3 desktop to my Mac Book.
I have a memory stick (formated in FAT I think) and my CD burning software on the XP desktop can burn CDs in ISO+Joliet, ISOJolietUDF or ISO Level 2 formats. Can I use any of these are do I need to buy something else to transfer my files?

A flash drive formatted FAT32 works fine since both XP and OS X can read from and write to a FAT formatted device.
You can burn CDs if you need to otherwise save the data on the CDs, otherwise you're just going to waste them.

  • How to transfer files from windows to ipad

I have a huge grouping of Old Time Radio shows in a folder on my Windows XP Pro SP3 3 desktop computer.
I want to copy them to my iPad mini, or to my 5th gen. iPod Touch.
I know I can copy them on a thumb drive (the Windows computer does not "see" my iPad) to my MacBook Pro, which does see the iPad, but how do I make a file on the iPad to recieve the fiies?
While I do have an NAS unit, the iPad is not hooked into it, and Ihave no interest in getting an iCloud account.
    What do I do?

You can also have a look at File Browser.

How do I transfer files from my old iMac to my new Pro laptop?

If you can get both computers on the Internet at the same time without re-cabling, you have the connection infrastructure needed to enable file sharing and share those files.
That said, many users find it easier to use FireWire Target Disk mode to treat the old computer as a big Hard drive, and just drag and drop the files, or use Migration Assistant or Setup Assistent.
There is a really good guide here:

  • How to transfer files from an iMac without upgraded Migration Assistant to a new iMac that doesn't have a firewire port?

    Hello.
I just purchased a new iMac. He's awesome. However, he didn't come with a Firewire port. (Bummer, because I have one from the last time (2007) I had to transfer stuff from my iBook...)
When I turned him on, he wanted to use Migration Assistant to transfer files from the older iMac; she doesn't have the most updated Migration Assistant, though. (She works just fine, but she only has Snow Leopard.)
Okay, so what I'm wondering is if I just have to use a huge external hardrive to move everything? If I do that, will my programs (Microsoft Office) move? I fear they won't move/transfer that way. Ugh.
    PLEASE HELP.
    Ideas? Advice?
    Thank you in advance!

Firewire 800 (what the new iMac has) is 9 pin. FireWire 400 is 6 pin (what your old iMac has).  Hopefully you didn't damage your new iMac by trying to insert a FW400 cable into its FW800 connector. The numbers are important in the case of the ports. They don't interchange!!! Get the proper cable or risk damaging your new iMac.

  • How to transfer files from old iMac to new iMac without transferring everything.

I just got a new iMac and would like to transfer files from my old iMac.  I don't want to transfer everything from the old iMac.  I just want the files, iTunes library, iPhoto library, etc.  I don't want to transfer applications and settings.  I was told in the Apple store that if I transferred my files using system setup then my new computer would look just like my old one.  I'd rather start out fresh with the new one and just bring in the files I need.  Is there a tool that allows you to customize what you transfer over from old to new?  Thanks for your help!!

Carbon Copy Cloner might be the correct tool. It lets you pick and choose what to clone.
    http://www.bombich.com/ccc_features.html
install CCC on the old Mac,
connect the Macs with an ethernet cable,
enable file sharing on both Macs,
use "connect to server" (in Go menu) to mount the new Mac's drive on the old Mac.
    run CCC.

  • How to transfer files from old iMac to new iMac

What is the easiest way to transfer files from my current iMac (intel) to my new iMac..which be arriving this week?
    Thanks

Get a Firewire cable to run between your old iMac and the new one. Boot the old iMac into Target Disk Mode. Boot the new computer for the first time. You will find yourself in the Setup Assistant. You will have an option to transfer files from another drive or Mac. Choose that option to transfer your Home folder, third-party applications and support files, and network preferences. You will opt to transfer from your old iMac's hard drive which should appear as an alternative source.

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer files from Windows Vista or Windows XP

I'm running a English Windows Vista Ultimate and just bought a
ENGLISH Windows 8.1. I've downloaded the WET for Windows vista and tried to complete the second portion of the transfer by specifying the saved .MIG file WET created. Then I got the error message: "Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer
files from Windows Vista or Windows XP".
The truth is, Microsoft was too busy integrating special effects to it's operating system and claimed it as fully polished instead of making sure built-in tools were worth using.
Another harsh reality is that THERE IS NO WAY TO TRANSFER a file from Windows Vista to Windows 8. That's because engineers didn't even bother to make that possibility happen. Just Google: "Transfer from windows vista to windows 8" and you'll see
there are no relevant Microsoft web page about this.
Worse, Microsoft is giving excuses. To solve this issues, they came with a toolbox of fake scenarios in order to confuse clients even further, while they know damn well the Windows Easy Transfer is NOT EASY and certainly in multiple cases
DOES NOT TRANSFER jack to begin with.

    I somewhat agree with you.
Trying to transfer from 7 to 8.1 and although it looks like the "7" side of the equation is working, the "8" side isn't.
"7" is trying to connect to "8" but "8.1" is being just plain stupid.
Not even sure why the MIG file step is even necessary if all I want to do is transfer one file between two machines.  Said file is really BIG, or i'd just use my network, and the "8.1" rig doesn't have a dvd reader...
Per the MIG step... my file again, is big... I'd need to "mig" this file just to send it? Can't even get to the step where I'd mig-it and if i did, how long would that take?
So this is what progress is all about... geez... gimmie a NULL MODEM CABLE !!!

  • How to transfer files from iBook to reader?

How to transfer files from iBook to reader

The first step is to export the PDF from iBooks to your computer (this cannot be one on your iPad or iPhone). Connect your iPad or iPhone to your syncing computer. Open iTunes. Select your device (how to do this depends on which version of iTunes you are running). Click on the Books tab at the top. In the current version of iTunes 11, I had to choose to view by PDFs. Then I could drag a PDF from the iTunes window to my Desktop.
Then follow the instructions in this document to import the PDF(s) into Adobe Reader:
    http://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-2532
Not so easy, I'm afraid. Easier if you just keep copies of your PDFs on your computer.

How to transfer files from SD card when the system (Mac OS X v 10.7.5) will NOT recognize SD cards?
    Insert the SD card.
System opens iPhoto with SD contents.
Want to transfer files from SD card to system drive.  iPhoto closes
SD card directory removed from the Finder window and is not available again.
I don't want to have to reboot the system every time I want to perform this option.
    What's wrong here.
The support columns show this isn't an isolated incident with all sorts of solutions possible.
This is a simple task - there should be a simple method for the system to recognize SD cards.
    What's the answer?
I've reviewed a recommendation to reset the SMC.

When I plug in an SD card, the finder window shows it under the DEVICES section.  At this point, I can drag the contents to the hard drive.  However, when I screw up and click the character on the right side of the name - it apparently closes the SD card and I can't find any command to reload or re-recognize the card.  I have to remove and reinsert the card and then sometimes it recognizes the card.  Other times I reboot and it will recognize it.
What does that character on the right side of the SD card name do?  Is it an eject function - with no way to subsequently reread the drive?
It ejects or unmounts the card. When the SD card mounts click on it once to highlight it and then drag the files shown within it to the new folder.
