How to transfer firefox 2 passwords to firefox 4

I have an old PC running firefox 2
I now have a new PC running firefox 4
Is it possible to transfer all my saved passwords from ff2 to ff4?

A couple of options:
Use the password export add-on. For Firefox 2 you will need to use version 1.2 of the add-on, and for Firefox 4 you will need version 1.2.1 - Both versions are available from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/password-exporter/versions/
With this add-on you can export the bookmarks to a file and then import that file on the other computer.
The other option is to do this manually. You need to do the following with Firefox closed on both computers. You will need to locate the profile folder (location where user data is stored) on both computers, for details of the location of the profile folder see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
In Firefox 2 you need to copy 2 files, key3.db and signons2.txt, from the profile folder.
You need to place these 2 files in the profile folder on the new computer. key3.db will already exist, you need to replace it with the version from Firefox 2. There will be a file called signons.sqlite in the current profile folder, you need to delete that file.
When you start Firefox 4 it will create a new version of signons.sqlite containing the passwords from signons2.txt
Note that this method will delete any passwords that you have created whilst using Firefox 4. The first method will add the passwords from Firefox 2 to any that you have created in Firefox 4.

Some sites like PayPal, Yahoo, Windows Live and bank sites use ''autocomplete="off"'' to prevent Firefox from saving the name and the password.
If a site uses ''autocomplete="off"'' then look at this article for a bookmarklet to remove that autocomplete attribute.

  • How to import 1Password passwords to Firefox..

I cannot believe that this has never been asked before---How do I get my 1Password folder of passwords to Firefox?

You will want it the other way around... Firefox passwords into 1password
FF's password database isn't the most secure *ahem*
Use 1pass as it was designed to work... as a toolbar or button installed in Firefox
If you need to install the 1pass toolbar see below-
    Open 1pass
    Goto preferences
    Select the Browsers section
    Tick the checkmark beside firefox
    Restart firefox

  • I got a new computer and installed Firefox, but don't know how to transfer the bookmarks from Firefox on the old computer.

This has to be one of the the most common problems that people encounter. We all get new computers every so often, and we all need to keep the old bookmarks when we get a new computer and install the new browser.
I feel like I must be among the small minority of people who do not know how to do this. My older computer is not dead, it just got old (it uses XP). I have been keeping it around until I get all of the data from it. Any help in doing that would be greatly appreciated.
I am now using Windows 7.

Firefox also makes regular backups of your bookmarks in a folder named bookmarkbackups in your personal settings folder. You can restore the backup to your new Firefox, but unlike importing the HTML-format file, it is a complete drop-in replacement, so if you have saved new bookmarks you do not want to lose, the export/import method may work better for you.
By default, Windows hides your personal settings folder so the easiest way to access it is from inside Firefox. You can use either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This will launch a window showing your Firefox settings files.
You might want to back up this whole folder if you have other data you want to preserve from your XP computer.
Either way, you should find the bookmarkbackups folder here and when you click into it, find maybe 10 files with dates in their names.
The procedure to restore the file once you have it on removable media or some other convenient place is described in this article: [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]].
Regarding the other files and what you might find of use: [[Recovering important data from an old profile]].

  • How to delete saved password from Firefox mobile

I saved an incorrect email address

    Hello,
Firefox for Android doesn't have the option to edit saved passwords individually. You may try this addon that should do the job.

    Hope that helps.

  • How to Transfer Preferences (Passwords, etc.)

This forum is intended for issues with & discussion relating to Apple's applications "Mail" & "Address Book." You will get better results posting your problem to a more appropriate forum area, like Safari or Installation & Setup.
That said, make sure you are complying with Apple's license agreement (one copy of the OS purchased per Mac) & use Migration Assistant if appropriate to transfer all your prefs, etc. to a new Mac.

  • How can I set a password for firefox so that everyone have to enter the password before executing firefox

My younger sister executed my firefox just at this afternoon(she originally use IE), and she saw something that can't be seen. How can I set a password for firefox so that everyone have to enter the password before executing firefox?

Also see this for an English version of Profile Password:
    *Profile Password: http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/profilepassword-en.html#PPF
It is an extension to protect the profile with a password, but being an extension that protection can easily be bypassed by starting Firefox in [[Safe mode]].<br />
So do not rely on it.<br />
If you want to protect content then you have to use methods supported by the OS like a separate user account with a password or an encrypted file system.

  • I cannot understand the answers provided when I ask 'how to change a password for a website' in Firefox Options tab.

The answers that your website have provided have not done me any good. I use a Master Password for Firefox. Now Firefox is not asking me if I want it to remember a certain password that I have entered for a website. In the 'Options' tab, I have told Firefox that I do not want to be tracked; that I don't want it to remember the history; and not to accept third-party cookies. What is it that I have to do in 'Options' so that Firefox remembers a new password (I have changed a password recently). I would really appreciate an actual answer, rather than a link to "some answers already posted".
I'm using Firefox 33.1. Windows XP - Service Pack 3.
    Thank you.

Are you saying that you changed your history setting here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
to "Firefox will: Never remember history"?
This causes Firefox to always start up in a private browsing session. According to the help article "[[Usernames and passwords are not saved]]":
<blockquote>If you use the Firefox Private Browsing feature, no passwords will be automatically filled in for your Private Browsing window or in permanent Private Browsing mode, and no new passwords will be saved.</blockquote>
So hopefully that helps connect the dots.
If you prefer to keep using automatic private browsing, you may need to use an add-on to manage your passwords instead of Firefox's built-in password manager.
Or if you want to adjust other Firefox settings so that they are as close as possible to private browsing, we can suggest how to do that instead.

  • I lost or forgot my master password for firefox...SO much of MY LIFE is on there. How do I get it back, or get a new master password?? TY so MUCH!!

    Hello,
I need urgent help, I lost or forgot my master firefox password..it's odd, that I had it , then copied/pasted it to change it..BUT that didn't work...maybe copy/pasting wont work for it?
I am a computer professional, an do some security work for Microsoft..that is my specialty--security. Not, passwords, obviously, lol.
I found this program, but it's way over my head>> Firemaster.
So, ANY help, would be super appreciated!

Tony, sorry to double reply..but when you, or if you answer my upper post, if I use your idea it will erase the MASTER password so I can "start over"?
