  • How do I transfer iMovie projects to dvd if I don't have iDVD?

I compile a year's worth of home movie clips into one DVD every year to distribute to grandparents. I had used my mom's Mac that had iMovie and iDVD but finally bought my own macbook pro so I could do the project from the comfort of my own home. What a surprise that when I finished this year's movie in iMovie, I couldn't transfer it to a dvd!!! Any suggestions?

    Hi
    or in my words
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.

  • How do I create a playable DVD from camcorder footage?

Hi, almost total newbie here. My problem is that I'm wanting to create a playable DVD from a video I've made, but all my burns so far have resulted in DVDs which will play back on the iMAC they're created on, but not on my iBook G3. This is a worry, as I'm needing to send something playable interstate, quite urgently, and it needs to be either a Quicktime movie or a playable DVD.
So far, I've managed to get the footage into iMovie, edit the clip length and add the effects I want.
I'm then exporting the finished clip, ready to burn. Problem is, I'm completely confused about which settings to choose. Nothing I've tried seems to give me the results I want.
When I play back on the iMAC, it's fine. When I try to open the movie in Quicktime on my iBook, it invariably stalls or skips frames. Any playback it does give is terribly disjointed. The problem isn't the iBook, as I can play commercial DVDs on it.
The clip is intended for public screening, and I'm on a deadline. I've been browsing the forums and have found a few tips which might help, but nothing that sounds very different from what I've done, or sufficiently clear for a non-techie like me to grasp.
Can anybody clear this up for me?
As a side note, my daughters have been having the same difficulty, trying to burn DVD from animations they've put together in photoshop. Their issues were solved when they selected the Mpeg format to export in, although this did result in some sight loss of quality in terms of appearance on playback. ie the images were not as crisp, edges slightly fuzzy, etc.
After hours of frustration, we're just not sure what to try next.
    Thanks.

You should just send ("Share") the movie to iDVD from iMovie.

  • Newbie Question how to burn imovie to a dvd

Hello everybody i have a quick question. I can't figure out how to burn a imovie project to dvd. Looked through all the menus share menu in particular. Couldn't find anything to export to a dvd. Searched through the help and i couldnt find anything. Thanks

    Hi
    I would try:
    • Share -> down to second line Media-publisher (?)
    • I would select Large
    Then close iMovie
Open iDVD and see if I can localize the movie under Media.

  • How to transfer imovie from iMac to iPad?

I need to know how to transfer an app such as imovie from a Mac to an iPad.

Mac OS X applications can't be used on an iOS device. If they're in an iTunes library, they're iOS applications, not Mac OS X ones, and can be transferred by syncing the device.
As the developer needs to create and maintain the versions separately, having bought one version doesn't entitle someone to a free download of the other.

  • How to transfer IMovie project from one user to another on MacBok Pro?

My daughter made a movie with IMovie and I would like to add music from my files. We work as separate users and now I cannot open the project with myself as user. How can I access the movie made as another user? Even if I copy the project on my desktop, it does not open in IMovie when I am the user.

    Hello to-mii,
Your best option would be to use an external drive to make the project available to other users on the system.
iMovie '11: Copy or move a project to an external hard disk

You may also need to transfer the related events to the external drive, as well.

  • How to transfer imovie events to finder?

I am wanting to transfer clips into a Finder folder, but they were originally uploded directly to imovie. I have no back ups of the clips and want them somewhere other than iMovie 10.0.2. How can I do this?

If they are in 10.0.2, they should be in an iMovie Library. Right click on the Library and choose "Show Package Contents". There you will see the Events in the Library. You can drag these to a different place in the Finder.

  • How to transfer a Sony handycam dvd footage to mac?

    Hey Folks,
My friend from Florida just sent me a DVD of some footage he would like me to edit - now I thought he actually sent me a DVD but it ended up being a small mini dvd disk for a Sony HandyCam. Now Im left with figuring it out how can I get this into my mac - it's very small I don't want to insert it into the DVD drive incase it screws it up. So let me know what to do here is a snapshot of the DVD i got so you can see what i mean. I put my hand in the image to show you how small the DVD is and hoping someone on here would know what to do it's the size of my palm (and I big person or anything).

    my best,
    Joey Dee

I've had to do this a couple of times. The first time I did it the convoluted way. Still have an old G4 with a tray-loading DVD drive. So I put the DVD in that. Copied the Video_TS file to my current computer (17"MBP) where the application DVDXDV resides and used that to convert to QuickTime DV-NTSC or DV-PAL in your case, since I don't like working with MP4 in Final Cut.
The last time I did this, I simply put the miniDVD in my $25 Cyberhome DVD player, ran S-video and RCA audio cables to my DSR-11 as a thru device and did Capture Now while playing back the DVD. I used DV-NTSC coded again in FCP and the quality was actually very good.
If I had to do it again, I'd do it the second way, with a consumer DVD player and setting some kind of analog to digital transfer.
P.S. The first time, before resorting to the old G4, I had the miniDVD jammed inside my 17" PowerBook for an hour before I managed to get it out...not recommended.

  • How to burn iMovie '11 to DVD

    having trouble doing this
what do I export it as?
can i have imovie '11 and imovie '09 on computer
    at the same time?
I have tried almost every export method to Toast, Burn, miDVD
    with no luck.
can I export and burn a DVD from imovie '11?
    Deb
    thx

Well, I don't think you can have iMovie 11 and iMovie 9 at the same time. iDVD should gonna help, but iDVD seems to be excluded from Lion. I guess you can only use other DVD burning program to make it. Maybe this tutorial can help you out: http://www.iorgsoft.com/dvd-maker/convert-imovie-to-dvd-on-mac.html. To burn iMovie to DVD, you need to first export iMovie project to videos. When an iMovie project is completed, select it and click "Share" at the top of the window in the Menu bar and choose "Export Movie...". And then you can use DVD burning software to help you. Good luck.

  • How To Transfer 8mm film to DVD

    HI,
My Mom just gave me a bag of 8mm and super 8mm film reels. I want desperately to figure out how to get them into my mac for editing.
She does not have the projector any more.
Can anyone advice me on a course of action. I know I can go have them done some where but I would rather figure it out and do it myself.
Do I need to go buy a projector? If so, is there a specific projector I should be looking for?
Once I have the projector, how do you get it into your mac? adapter, go between?
I so appreciate your help. My Parent's wedding is on there and I have never seen it. I would be a dream to get to edit that for them.
    Thanks in advance,
    Susan

Start looking at links from this site:
    http://www.moviestuff.tv/
As people are alluding to above, you'll have to decide how pristine of a transfer you want. I would advise looking into local companies if you're in a decent sized town/city. Then you don't have to worry about where your film will be or go to. Discuss the techniques used with the proprietor. I was able to find a company in Maryland that did a terrific job with stuff going back to the 30s using equipment from Moviestuff. The main thing to keep in mind is that you should NOT attempt to run the films through a normal projector that has a full-brightness bulb, which can result in your film getting cooked instantly due to their age. Also, a quote from one transfer site regarding home projection:
"The films are subjected to the harsh pull-down claw mechanism of a projector that may or may not be in good working order. The films of the participants may leave dirt and debris in the projector that will scratch the subsequently projected films." (see http://www.bonofilm.com/super8reality.asp)

  • How to burn imovie project on dvd

Have just switched from PC to Mac - what's the Windows DVD Maker equivalent in Mac environment please ? I have an iMovie project that I'd like to burn onto a disc. Cheers, H.

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Apple tell me iDVD is not supported anymore
IDVD is very popular in the Apple community. The latest Macintoshes and Mac OSs are tested for compatibility with iDVD.

  • How to transfer a video to dvd

I just downloaded a video that I took to IPhoto without a problem.  Now I would like to make copies of the video on a dvd.  despite a number of efforts, the quality of the copies is very poor.  any suggestions how to make a clean version?

If you use iDVD to create the copy you're reducing the original size down to 640 x 480 pixels which is the video DVD standard.  If you just want to make copies of the original video file available on a data DVD export the video out of iPhoto via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export  menu option with Kind = Original selected.  Then burn the video file to DVD via the Finder.  That will produce a full quailty duiplicate.  It won't be able to be played via a set top DVD player, however.

  • How to transfer imovie '09 footage to another mac?

I downloaded video from camcorder to my imac. How can I get footage from my imac to my macbook pro without downloading from camcorder again? I tried to drop into a memory stick but could not do it. Any suggestions?

If you have not used your footage in a project, you can find the footage in the Movies/iMovie Events you can do a simple copy in the Finder.
Copy the Event folder and place it at the exact same place on your other Mac. (Movies/iMovie Events/Event Name. Then start iMovie on the second machine.
If you have used the Event footage in a project, and you want to preserve your project, you must make the move within iMovie.
