How to transfer ipod mini music to Laptop

Hi,
I have got a laptop of my friend and I would like to get all my music from my i pod up on the laptop,how can i do it and is there a simple way like transferring my music via a usb cable or so from my old commputer or easier?Would be great to get it explained very simply coz Im not good with computers or technical stuff at all.Many thanks.

You can't transfer directly from one iPod to another, you need to get the content of your Mini back into iTunes so you can update the new iPod. The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac. If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. My powerbook was stolen. I have noew a replacement but when i plug in the 30 gb ipod it tells me ts the wrong computer. How can I get the new computer to be "the one" the ipod can recognise. I imagined you could go into your account and transfer by providing certain information, but perhaps that was naive of me.
Can anyone assist me - There has to be a way!!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

Your music should be in your iTunes library, that is how it gets synced to the iPod. If that music is not present in the iTunes library, you will need to get a 3rd party software for the computer to get the music off the original iPod and then move it to the iTunes library to be able to sync it to the new iPod. If you want to sync your iTunes library on your Mac to your iPad ....
Connect your iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes. Click on your iPad's name on the left side under the devices heading. Then click on the Music tab - and select the music that you want to transfer. Does your iTunes window look like this - with Sync Music checked and the playlists or albums checked as well like in the photo below?
When you click on the apps tab do you have Sync Apps checked and all of the apps in the window below checked to sync as well?
If you select all of the items under the different tabs in iTunes - music, apps, photos. etc. - when you sync - all of the selected content should sync over to the iPad.

Yes, you pretty much just drag and drop or copy and paste depending on which way you like better. It is pretty much like connecting an external hard drive. Just find the files you want and copy them over to your other computer.
This is one of my favorite features from Macs. It's very simple to do and because it's Firewire even large files transfer over very quickly.

HT1688 does anyone know how to transfer the existing music from my itunes account that i had with an ipod to my iphone? I had my last download on my laptop which crashed and now we have a new computer. I had to download a new version of itunes.

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
However it appears that no playlists or any other info such as ratings/last played etc will transfer.
If this is important to you, you may want to use other options.
There's Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod to iTunes.
