How to transfer iPod songs frm Mac Formatted iPod to Windows formatted iPod
I have an eMac with iTunes 7.1.1 and my daughter's 30 gb, video iPod has 1000 songs on it-- that iPod is formatted for Mac.
OK but now she is switching to a PC due to work, and moving- so she won't have access to the eMac. She'd like to format her iPod for PC, but doesn't want to lose the 1000 songs. (Many/most are already on the PC, but so are many, many more, - from her sister etc.--and she'd like to just transfer these 1000).
What I'd simply like to do is copy her 1000 songs to a folder on the eMac by putting the iPod into DISK mode, then connect the iPod to her PC and completely erase it / format it for Windows via iTunes 7.1.1 for Windows on her PC.
Then I'd like to transfer the 1000 songs in that folder to my external La Cie 60 gb "USB2" HD (which I will format for Windows first).
Then I'd like to connect that La Cie External HD to the PC and have the 1000 songs imported into my daughter's windows iTunes and then finally have her connect her iPod and have the 1000 songs copied (manually or via sync) to her now-formatted-for-Windows iPod.
CAN THAT BE DONE? If so, is there anything tricky here, i.e. do I have to use iTunes on the Mac to put the iPod into HARD DISK mode?
And will the songs once on the Mac be able to copy over to a Windows-formatted La Cie external HD?
NOTE: All 1000 songs are songs from CD's that she has put into iTunes, i.e. there are no 'Apple iTunes store' purchased songs so there will not be a problem with that.
Any comments really appreciated here-- she's only visiting for a couple of days and I'd like to do this asap-- really appreciate any guidance.

There are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. Any ideas on how to transfer my songs stored in iTunes on my old computer to the newly installed iTunes on my new computer? As I am looking through the postings, it doesn't seem possible, but I would like to make sure.
For example, is it possible to transfer some of my songs through my iPod Suffle (after I load it up with songs stored in my old PC)? After I installed the iPod software on my new PC, my Suffle was reformated, hence is currently empty...
So much trouble for what I thought was going to be a simple switch!!! Please help!

If it's the Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

In Mail, if I go to Preferences > Signatures, I see in the left column *All Signatures*, and signatures for various accounts.
How would I transfer the signatures in *All Signatures* from one Mac to another?
The names of files in the folder ~/Library/Mail/Signatures are all cryptic.
Moreover, since each signature is tied to a certain account, I don't think that I can just copy these files into the Signature folder of the 2nd Mac.Simply moving these cryptic files did not work, in the sense that these signatures did not show up in the right-most column of the Signatures pane.
I made sure that I did not move the SignaturesByAccount.plist file in the ~/Library/Mail/Signatures folder.
So, would someone please share with me how to transfer signatures from one Mac to another, with both running Mail? -
Hello everybody! My question is; my parents and I have a great number of video tapes (Hi8 and mini DV) and since I purchased a MacBook Pro (ME665LL/A) I would like to burn them onto CDs, but I do not know how to transfer those footage into Mac. What would you recommend(it can be a software, a hardware or combination of both)? By the way, I also purchased an external DVD-RW(Asus SDRW-08D2S) separately.
Just Google "convert hi8 to dvd" and you'll find a number of software/hardware combinations that will allow you to do what you want. One important piece of the puzzle is whether or not you still have access to the video recorder(s) that the movies were shot on.

I am pretty sure the ratings are stored in the main library file itself, not attached to the media files unlike things such as artist and album. They therefore don't transfer with you adding the file to a different library.
Check Dougscripts and see if there is a script that helps with this. One solution would be to perhaps temporarily borrow an unused tag field such as grouping and have Dougscript "place this in that" put a copy of the rating in that field, then transfer it to back to rating when you add it to a second library. I haven't done this but it might work. -

you can use home sharing.
or, assuming you have all your media files in the default location, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from the old to the exact same location on the new machine.

if you meant transferring photos from your MacBook Pro to a SD card, note that all of the Retina MacBook Pros have a SDXC card slot. Thus, you would insert a SD card into the SDXC card slot, and an icon representing your SD card should appear on your desktop. You can then drag photos from your Mac to the SD card icon in the same way that you would drag an icon to copy to any other drive. The SD card icon should be dragged to the Trash (to “eject” it) before you remove the card from the slot. -

If your intention is to copy a just documents and data (word processing files and music for example) then yes, you can use drag and drop. If you want to transfer data and applications and permissions, it would actually be easiest to connect the drive to your old computer and turn on TimeMachine. Once TM is finished, connect the drive to your new computer and restart it holding the option key to get into Recovery mode. Then you can use the restore from TM option to transfer your data and programs to the new computer.
