How to transfer my iPod to a new MacBook?

So I got a new MacBook, and I want this new computer to be the one I use for syncing. For clarity, I'll call my old computer "Computer A" and my MacBook "Computer B."
So some people here told me to back-up and restore my iPod on Computer B, and that would fix all my problems. It didn't. Computer B still told me that this iPod was synced with another iTunes library (even though it's the same iTunes account, just different computers), and if I synced it, I would lose all my data. Well I accidentally did, but it's not a huge loss since I made a back-up on Computer A as well. But now, Computer A is downloading a software update for my iPod (5.1). My iPod is currently running 5.1 already! Why would it need to update with the same software???
So my problem still remains.
Is it even possible to change the computer you use to sync an iPod? What happens if your old computer crashes and you buy a new one? Then you are forced to lose all the data on the iPod, even though nothing was wrong with it! Surely Apple is better than that! Why is there no easy way to change computers???
Sorry, but I'm really mad right now.
Is there anyone who has ever gotten a new computer and then used it to sync their iPod/iPhone? I really have no idea what to do, and I'd really appreciate any help.
Thanks... I hope I can get out of this mess...

Ok, I just got off the phone with Apple, and the lady told me all I had to do was sync my iPod normally.
Here's what I think happened: I accidentally left "Sync Apps" unchecked, because I just pressed the button. Since it wasn't set to sync apps, I got in trouble. This time, I'll change that.
Since the same apps are there, I wouldn't lose my data. So Computer A is still downloading the update (It's really slow) and then it will restore my info. After that, I'll do a cursory "Transfer purchases" to insure that all the data corrosponds (Specifially apps, =P) and then I'll sync like normal. She said I shouldn't have any problems, and I hope she's right. However I still have the back-up on Computer A if things go really wrong...
Wish me luck.

  • How to transfer my iPod to my new MacBook

I just got a new MacBook pro and would like to transfer my music, pictures, etc. from my old computer to my new one. How?

Backup your iTunes libary to an external HD and then restore it to your new computer.
iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
As an added precaustion, transfer iTunes purchases to the new computer by.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Connect the iPod to the new computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices iniTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from backup
Note that the backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.

  • Advice on how to transfer certain files/documents to new macbook

I have backed up all my files on my old macbook through time machine with an external hard drive. I want to transfer my music but not my photos to my new macbook. Am I able to do this (and how)? Step by step please. Also, will my photos be permanently saved on my external hard drive, even though I will be using time machine with the external hard drive to back up with my new macbook, and the photos will not be on my new macbook?

You can use the Migration Assistant to bring files from your Time Machine backup to the new MacBook. You can choose to do everything or only certain items. See the article for how.
The photos are not permanently saved on the external hard drive. Leaving aside the fact that hard drives are mechanical devices that will eventually fail at some point, there is also the point that if the new MacBook is using that hard drive as a target  for Time Machine, eventually it will need to use the space on it  for current backups of the items on the MacBook, and thus will overwrite your photos. It would be good to have a separate backup of that data, either on a different hard drive or burned to DVDs.
Pondini, one of the high level users of these forums, has written a great page about the use of Time Machine. You might want to take a look at it.
    Best of luck.

  • How to Transfer an Application to a New Macbook Pro

    Hello everyone.
I just bought a new 13" Macbook Pro with Retina Display. I only want to transfer a few of my applications from my old macbook to my new one, like Microsoft Office and Matlab. How would I go about just transferring these apps, insted of using Migration Assistant.
    Thank you.

You can download Office from Microsoft - https://www.microsoft.com/mac/trial - just download the trial version and enter your activation code (which I assume that you still have? It's on the CD sleeve and if you don't have the CD, you may not have the activation code).
Then download MATLAB if you got it from the Internet.

Where do you see this message?
It was available as a download but Apple seems to have removed it.
If you have the iLife 06 DVD, just reinstall it.

iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - just media purchased from iTunes Store
i-devices are intended to by synced with iTunes (iTunes --> device), not transfer things to iTunes.  For transferring songs from i-device to computer see commercial software utilities (with the exception of iTunes purchases). Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing):

  • Can someone tell me how to sync my ipod on my new computer i have just authorised. i hate this

Can someone tell me how i sync my ipod on my new computer. i have authorised the computer but i can not find where to sync it. i thought Apple was meant to be easy

    Hi Richail,
Once you have selected your sync options in iTunes, such as what music or videos you want to transfer, the Apply button should be in the bottom right hand corner of the window. For more information on syncing iOS devices, you may find the following article helpful:

  • Transfer everything from my ipod to my new macbook

How do i transfer everything thats on my ipod to my new macbook? since i dont want my ipod to be on my pc, i want it to be on my new macbook, i hope that didnt sound confusing :P

If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7 A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there's a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to your Mac at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
If you prefer something more automated there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others as well, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

  • Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.

Me and my partner are currently using the same apple id and have no space left on our devices. We are currently waiting on the iphone 6 plus to arrive and don't know how to transfer all data to the new phones.?

I don't know if I'm asking this all in a way that can be understood? Thanks ED3K, however that part I do understand (in the link you provided!)
What I need to know is "how" I can separate or rather create another Apple ID for my son-who is currently using "my Apple ID?" If there is a way to let him keep "all" his info on his phone (eg-contacts, music, app's, etc.) without doing a "reset?') Somehow I need to go into his phone's setting-create a new Apple ID and possibly a new password so he can still use our combined iCloud & Itunes account?
Also then letting me take back my Apple ID & password, but again allowing us (my son and I) to use the same iCloud & Itunes account? Does that make more sense??? I'm sincerely trying to get this cleared up once and for all----just need guidance from someone who has a true understanding of the whole Apple iCloud/Itunes system!
Thanks again for "anyone" that can help me!!!

  • I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

I have an Ipod classic sync'd to a PC. The PC is no longer working. I purchased a new MacBook pro. How can I sync the Ipod to the new Macbook pro

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the Mac as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your Mac first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

I've just got a new computer does any one know how to transfer my song to my new computer. I've installed itunes but can't seem to transfer the songs.

    you can use home sharing.
or, assuming you have all your media files in the default location, copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from the old to the exact same location on the new machine.
you can either use your network or an external HD for that.

  • How do I sync ipod classic to new windows 8 computer?

I want to sync my ipod classic to a new laptop, operating on Windows 8. My existing itunes account is on my old, very slow desktop computer. On there, is my current music library.
    1) Please could someone tell me, how to sync my ipod to my new computer, in simple terms if at all possible!
    2) If I manage this, can I copy my itunes music library to my new computer?
    Thank you in anticipation!

You need to copy your entire iTunes folder to the new computer from the old one. Otherwise you could lose some of your content.

how to transfer my certificate to this new account from old acount

You don't.  Registration is a one time thing that you do the first time you install an application.  Once registered it does not need to be done again.
You should see if yoiu can have the activations reset before you try installing on a new machine so that you still have the two activations that are available to you.  If not, you should still have an activation available for use with the new installation.
To reset activations contact Adobe Support and ask them to reset your activations....  For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...
Serial number and activation chat support (non-CC)
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service1.html ( http://adobe.ly/1aYjbSC )
To get it working on the new machine you just install and activate using the serial number you should already have.
