How to transfer my itunes to new computer

How do I transfer my itunes to a new computer??

Hello Darliene321!
Here are some helpful support articles to help you on your way to enjoying your music across all of your devices with iTunes.  In the future, I would recommend you state what kind of computer operating system (like a Mac or Windows PC version such as OS X Lion or Windows 7 etc.) you are using just to help the community pinpoint the best support option for your needs.  It would also help everyone to know which version of iTunes you currently have... the latest is the best for you (iTunes ver. 10.6 http://www.apple.com/itunes/ !)!  Also let us know if you have previous experience or how experienced you are with your devices.
Enjoy!!

I have a 1 hour 5 min memo I want to transfer to iTunes on new computer. made x för music and memo: no transfer to computer resulted.

Apparently I wasn't clear.  The music on my ipod is but a subset of all the music on my external hard drives.  I want to import only the songs and playlists from my existing ipod into the itunes library on my new computer, which currently has no music or playlists.  How can I do this?

  • Computer was stolen--how to transfer from iPod to new computer

My computer was stolen and I want to transfer my iPod library to my new computer. I know how to transfer from one computer to another using an iPod but is there a way to do it when I don't have the computer that has my iTunes library?

There are a number of third party utilities you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod. This is just a selection.
    YamiPod
    PodUtil
    PodPlayer
    iPodAgent
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive posted in this thread: iPod to iTunes
If your iPod was set for automatic update change it to manual update. While connecting the iPod to the computer, hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 3 and 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then go to Preferences>iPod and check the "Manually manage songs and playlists" box.
Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again.
Another way is to connect your iPod and before it starts to sync, click the little X on the right hand side of the display beside the "Do Not Disconnect" message. The display is the little window to the right of the iTunes control buttons: iPod Interface
Or you could look at the method described in this link: How to keep iTunes from automatically updating your iPod
Go with whichever method you feel most comfortable. If at any point you are asked if you want to link your iPod to a new library, click No.

  • How to transfer music to a new computer (PC)?

Simple question, I'm hoping for a simple answer. I've just purchased a new laptop PC and want to transfer my music to it. Is there an easy way to do this? All I can seem to find are some really convoluted steps to making this happen. And if I take the iPod to an Apple store will they do it for me?

*I've just purchased a new laptop PC and want to transfer my music to it. Is there an easy way to do this?*
Do you want to transfer the iTunes library from the original computer or just copy the music from the iPod? Some iPods can be used as an external drive and you can use them to move your iTunes library from one computer to another (this option isn't available with the iPod Touch). You can adapt this method for use with a regular external drive: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
iTunes will only let you copy your purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (including purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
A selection of iPod to iTunes utilities:
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
SharePod Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iPodRip Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
Music Rescue Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
*And if I take the iPod to an Apple store will they do it for me?*
Since copying non iTunes purchases requires third party software I would doubt it very much.

  • HT1329 My old computer crashed but still have my IPOd with old music. How to transfer the music into new computer which has already music in it?

My old computer crashed and I still have my music in an IPod. How to transfer the music/playlists into a new computer which has already music in it? (Not possible to copy ITunes of old computer in IPod)
    Thanks

Lucky for you, I just found out how to get the music stored on your iPod by messing around with it. I'm not much of an Apple user (I only have a shuffle), so I'm not 100% sure it would work the same way as yours.. but it's worth a shot.
if your iTunes didn't sync with your iPod yet,... that would be great..
1, Make sure your iTunes does not automatically sync with your iPod (I don't know if this would help..)
2, Click on your iPod and go to settings, check "Enabe Disk Use"
Your iPod should now have a partition on My Computer called AFJCHAW's IPOD or whatever you named your iPod... If you go to that disk, you'll notice there's nothing in there.
3, Click on Organize at the top right part of Windows Explorer(Windows 7, don't know how in XP..), go th the Folder and search options, view tab, and click on show hidden files, folders, and drives.
If you go back to your disk, you should be able to find a folder
4, It'll be pretty straightforward then. Go to iPod_Control/Music. You'll find folders there. Inside the folders are each of your music files (they're renamed but the Details would still be about the same).
If you did get your music files back from this procedure, then, yay! it worked!!
If you didn't,.... it should've worked..

  • Desktop Died - How to re-associate itunes on new computer?

    Hi,
My desktop died an ugly death.  The C drive fried and I don't want to spend the 1000 bucks to have the information recalled.  How do I go about re-installing itunes and all of my software onto the new computer without reformatting my ipad and ipod touch?
    Thanks
    James

I'm not positive, but when you plug in the iPad or iPod Touch, won't you get a choice to transfer purchases or format?  Just choose transfer purchases.

The easiest way is to simply restore your music from your backup drive.

  • How to transfer pse 5 to new computer

    Hi,
Sorry if my question is very basic, but I honestly don't have much of a clue about how to do this properly.
I have PSE 5 and just went from one computer (XP) to Windows 7.  I put all my files on an external hard drive and the PSE is in a folder on that drive.
I don't know where to go from there-which file do I install or can I just transfer the whole file over to my desktop?  Will that work?
Do I need to download the patch for PSE 5 to have it work in Windows 7?
Thank you so much for helping!

That is what I did..copied the folder.  I bought the
program as a download on the Adobe site and don't have a CD for it-I do have my serial number.  Since I live overseas I could only
order it online at the time.
So do I just launch the installer that is in the folder?  What happens to all the other files?
I really apologize for my lack of knowledge in this-this whole transferring to a new computer is beyond my understanding right now.
    Thanks!

  • How to transfer account/library to new computer after old one died?

My 4 year old Windows XP computer had a meltdown last weekend and the hard drive was re-set to original factory status - erasing tons of programs, data, settings etc that had accumulated over the years. Fortunately I have much of the C-Drive backed up and most data was moved some time ago to a network drive so all 4 of our household computers can access the same data. But some data, like Itunes and Outlook Calendar are stored by default on the C drive. I started restoring programs but concluded the computer still had stability issues and since I was overdue for a new one, got a new Windows 7 model. I still have the old one and it sort of works so I can copy files from it to the new one if needed. My Ipod Touch was synched recently and it is super valuable because i had a lot of info in my old computer's Outlook Calendar that I assume was also lost, but it is on my Ipod. How can I synch it safely onto the now bare Outlook on my new computer? Will the blank outlook synch my Ipod to blank? Can I rescue my 2500 song library and thousands of contacts?
    Thanks for any suggestions!

... Anyway, all of my iTunes library on that machine is lost I suppose. I didn't have it synced to my phone at the time due to space issues, so I don't have a copy of the library anywhere except in a Time Machine backup. I don't want to restore this new MBA with the entire backup, only the iTunes library. Is it possible? Or can I just re-download the songs since this new iTunes account is set up in the same Apple ID?
Your iTunes Library is unrelated to your logic board, however, you will need to "authorize" your computer to play your iTunes purchased content since iTunes considers a new logic board a completely new computer (which it is).
If for some reason your iTunes Library was lost, of course you can restore it from Time Machine. You can also re-download your iTunes purchased music again since it is all linked to your Apple ID.
You won't be charged for what you already bought.

  • How to transfer old purchases to new computer?

We had a computer with a lot of downloaded movies, albums, singles, etc. and that computer is no longer working so we got a new one and I was wondering if anyone knows a way to get my purchase history onto my new computer without rebuying anything.

Restore it from a backup, put the old computer's hard drive into an enclosure and copy the files off, use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes if they're on an iPod or similar Apple device, or click here and ask.

  • How to transfer Address Book to new computer?

There is a knowledge base article on how to transfer the catalog to a new computer, but the procedure does not transfer the address Book.
Can somebody tell me where is the contacts file located and how to transfer it?
    Thanks

Assuming youre using PSE 6 on both computers, you can copy the file contacts.xml from the old to the new computer. See this tech note for the location:

  • How to transfer mail & settings to new computer?

I'd like to transfer my mail accounts and mailboxes over to a new computer, without using the Migration Assistant. Is this possible?

If you can mount the other computer as an AFP share on your desktop (in Finder's menu bar, choose Go then Connect to server or choose Go then Network), then launch Mail, there is an "import mailboxes" function under File in Mail's menubar. You'll be prompted to identify the type of previous Mail client, and you'll need to navigate your way to the mailboxes' locations on the mounted volume of the old computer.
I'd be careful about copying files and such from one computer to the other if one is Tiger and the other is Leopard. I don't know if everything is stored in the same format from one OS to the next or not. If they're both the same OS, you would be ok doing what Kappy has suggested below.

  • How to transfer from Nano to new computer when old computer isn't available

My boyfriend has a Nano and used his uncle's computer in the beginning to add music to it. He no longer has access to that computer and wants to move what's on his Nano to his new computer. Itunes recognizes his nano but won't let him copy anything from it to the Itunes library.

  • How to transfer Garage Band to new computer with all selfmade stuff

I just got myself a new macbook pro with of course garage band preinstalled.
I transfered all my .band projects from my old macbook and the loops i made too.
i put the loops in the same directory as they were on my old macbook hd/library/audio/apple loops/user loops/ but garage band didn't find them so i manually mooved them into the loop browser in garage band.
only problem: i have to mark them all as favorites again and whenever i open an old .band project for the first time gb has to search for each one again.
can you tell me how to do it better next time?
but now to the more important and current problem:
where do i find my selfmade software instruments on my old macbook and where do i have to put them on my new one?
and is there anything else i might need from my old gb that i didn't think of?
    thanks,
    paul

The best way would have been to use the Migration Assistant - it would have moved your whole user folder and your personal stuff over to the new computer.
About the instruments: There could be two Instrument Library folders, under HD/Library/Application Support/GarageBand and User/Library/Application Support/GarageBand (depending on whether you made the instruments available to all users.) If the other GB is a standard installation of the same version, you can just replace the folders on the new computer with the ones from the old machine, and all your instruments should be there. (The "if" refers to the fact that by doing this you lose all custom instruments you might have made on the new computer.)
