How to transfer my Netscape mail address book info to my OSX Address Book?

I may have to contact Netscape about this one but thought I would give it a shot here.
I am on a new G5 where all my old Netscape mail was brought over from my G3 via an Ethernet cable and is now living where it should in its place within the Netscape 4.77 mail program which I can access by running Classic OS9 mode.
I would like to import my address book information instead of having to cut and paste hundreds of addresses manually. The Apple mail program doesn't have its own address book (which I wish it did) but uses the Address book application, as you all know. Ideally I would want the addresses right there in mail but that doesn't seem to be how OSX works.
The only other thing I could do I suppose is download another web mail browswer, like Eudora or the equivalent, which maybe would have an import feature. I tried downloading Netscape for OSX but it didn't even have a place where I could drag and drop my mail folders - that I could see - let alone import my addresses from where they live in the System 9 folder.
Any advice appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

I have had a look around on Version Tracker to see if anything might help you
and have come up with this
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/19382
Product Description:
This is a tool for fixing LDIF files exported from Netscape Communicator 4.x. When Netscape Communicator exports LDIF files, it doesn't handle hard line breaks within the notes section properly. This causes the files to not be imported properly by Address Book. This program fixes that.
Product Requirements:
• Mac OS 8 - 9.2.2, or
• Mac OS X 10.0 or higher including Panther
This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:
• Mac OS Classic
• Mac OS X 10.0
• Mac OS X 10.1
• Mac OS X 10.2
• Mac OS X 10.3
As you have Classic / 9.2.2 ? I thought it might possibly help

  • How to transfer your voice mail to your PC?

    Hi,
I would like to copy or transfer my voice mail messages from my iPhone to my PC or something else to be stored digitally?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

iphone doesnt allow this (normally) however I believe when I was looking through the folders (using 1.0.2) there was a folder named VoiceMessages, which had some unknown file types that I am sure might just be some sort of compressed audio file that could be converted.
Although all that is too much of a hassle already. Another alternative that I use is to use GrandCentral.
    www.GrandCentral.com
it allows you to save all your voicemails to mp3 format and save it.
I think its in beta right now Im not sure if they allow you to sign up, but if you need an invite let me know your email addy and Ill send you one.

  • How to transfer printer settings from one Mac to another (both OSX)?

Hello, I have not found a detailed description on how to transfer printer settings from one Mac to another.
My issue is that I have a Mac G5 with 3 different settings saved as "presets" for the same printer. This works great, since the posters I print (on the large format printer) need different margins and different paper at times.
This G5 is basically retired and only used for printing. G5 has OSX 10.3.9
I have a MacPro as its replacement (OSX 10.4.11).
The MacPro has all my apps and other settings setup to my liking.
I found several links via Google saying copy this folder or directory, but I am not sure I did it correctly. I don't see the "presets".
I tried launching the Migration Assistant (I hope that's the correct name), but was concerned the settings on the new MacPro would be overwritten with ALL the old stuff on the older G5. I did not start the transfer process because of this.
If someone would list the steps needed to accomplish the transfer of printer settings or advise if this is possible, then I would be very grateful! The previous user of the G5 I am using was a "Genius" and I don't know how he created these "preset" choices.
    Thanks!

Hi SCChelpdesk, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I found several links via Google saying copy this folder or directory, but I am not sure I did it correctly. I don't see the "presets".
This is the File that holds that info on Tiger, not certain on Panther...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.custompresets.plist
After moving, you very well might have to change the Owner's Permissions within Get Info window, then log out/in.
I tried launching the Migration Assistant (I hope that's the correct name), but was concerned the settings on the new MacPro would be overwritten with ALL the old stuff on the older G5. I did not start the transfer process because of this.
MA would transfer the info, but/and, if the user that had that info had the same Shortname as on the new one, it'll demand you give it a new Shortname to use... but then those settings would be transferred to that new user on the new machine. I think the 1st one will work though.
The previous user of the G5 I am using was a "Genius" and I don't know how he created these "preset" choices.
We can go through that way if you like... not all that hard.

  • How to transfer photos from iphoto 09 on iMac to iphoto on Mac Book Pro

This is my first posting as I have tried unsuccessfully to find an answer to my query in the many answers to questions already posed.
I have an iMac and recently my girlfriend bought a Mac Book Pro. Whilst I have managed to transfer my music library to her Mac Book Pro using the new sharing facility in the latest version of iTunes, I have been unable to transfer the photos which I have on my Mac in iphoto 09.
Any help, advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in anticipation of your assistance.
    Best regards
EDIT: Just realised that I have posted this in iPhoto 08 instead of iPhoto 09 - I hope someone can still help!

Many thanks for your reply Terence
I understand what you mean, but would you be so kind as to explain how I should connect the machines. At first, I thought that some form of double ended USB may do it, but when I spoke to someone at work, they suggested a cross over ethernet cable.
    Your advice would be appreciated.
    Thank you once again

  • How to transfer emails from Mail onto iphone?

just got my iphone and having fun using it so far.
i am trying to get work out how Mail works on the iphone in terms of how it syncs with Mail on my imac.
i really want to load some old emails from Mail (on my imac) onto the iphone. i tried dragging them from Mail onto the iphone icon in itunes but it won't let me do that.
for example i deleted some emails on the iphone by mistake, yet they are still in my inbox on the imac and wish to transfer them back onto the iphone so i can read thme on the move.
is there a way to do so?

Email account mailboxes and messages are not included in the iTunes sync process and you cannot drag or transfer email from your computer to your iPhone or vice-versa.
The iPhone's Mail app is no different in this regard from using an email client on your computer.
If you want email account mailboxes and messages to be kept synchronized with the server with each email client used to access the account, you need an IMAP account, not a POP account. Either way there is no option to drag or transfer email from your computer to your iPhone or vice-versa just as it isn't possible to do the same between two email clients on your computer.

  • How to transfer ipad 1 do my wife's account and keep her books there?

I have an ipad 1st generation and a 2nd generation. I want to pass along to my wife the ipad 1 to my wife. She has a lot of books downloaded to this ipad. How can I transfer to her the ipad 1 and she be able to keep the books she downloaded on this new account she will set up for the ipad 1.
    Thank you,
    Marcelo
    [email protected]

If you share the same iTunes library on the same computer and you purchase all content with the same Apple ID and iTunes account, all you have to do is make sure that the two iPad have different names and iTunes will remember the content on her iPad when she syncs and it will remember your content on your iPad when you sync.
If you want to set up a new iTunes account for her with a different Apple ID, she can't keep the content that was purchased from your account. ITunes will erase that content when you sync. Purchases are tied to one iTunes account and cannot be transferred to another account with a different ID.
I'm not sure that I have totally answered your question so if not please post back.

  • DESPERATE: How to transfer my Treo 680/Palm Desktop info into my new 3GS?

Hello, so I finally bit the bullet and made the switch from my beloved Palm environment to the iPhone. Been on the Palm since they first came out. Yes, PalmDesktop (on 4.2.2. for the Mac) is awful and ugly and out of date, but it's where all my data is. (Trust, am upgrading my Mac when I can, just not the year for that expense too, sadly.)
And I am now up that migration creek of **** I thought I would be.
I have over 3,000 contacts in my Treo, with 300 memos, and a huge calendar dating back to Feb 2000 (no joke). It's like a life diary to me, I want to import it all. My work IS my contact list, so I need to import all 3,000 of them, with all their notes, categories, etc. into my new 3GS.
I am not sure how to do this. Desperately need some hand holding on this import.
Am on a Mac so I don't have Outlook.
Do I have to get everything into iCal and Address Book? How? Has anyone done this and preserved categories?
Do I shell out for Missing Sync and start there? (Anyone used this method?)
My friend and I tried iSync a long time ago and it doesn't preserve the categories, etc. so that isn't an optimal solution.
Am reading a bit online about people transferring from Palm into Google, and then the iPhone? That's a whole other ballgame. Thoughts? How to?
I am so lost. Been online for three hours and have no idea which way to turn.
Here's the desperate part: am leaving for Europe Saturday am, and need to make sure my contacts are in my phone, otherwise I have to drag the Treo along too so I have my data! Ridiculous.
    Has anyone done this transfer?
I'd be so incredibly grateful for guidance.
    Thank you!!!!

    Here are your options:
    1. Export from Palm Desktop and import to iCal and Address Book Instructions are here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/pre/migration/exportical.html
The downer is that this will lose your categories in Address Book, I think.
    2. Get Missing Sync here:
    http://www.markspace.com/products/palm/palm-sync-software.html?source=pickerpalmosmac
    3. Sync the Treo to Address Book and iCal, then connect the iPhone and sync from AB/iCal to the iPhone. Instructions here
    http://askville.amazon.com/Palm-Treo-700p-sync-Mac-OS-iCal-Address-Book/AnswerVi ewer.do?requestId=2508818
Number 3 is your best bet - it should retain all the categories etc. However, doing this in a hurry is a recipe for panic. My advice is to try 3 first. If you can't get it to work, try 1. Although that might lose categories, it gets everything onto the iPhone, and the iPhone's built-in Spotlight search will enable you to find people, events etc really quickly. And it's easy and quick. Later on, when you have time, you can try something cleverer.
    You don't need Missing Sync

  • How do you do a mail merge in ms word?

    Hello,
I have the form letter created in Word and my list of recipients are in an Excel sheet. How do I do the mail merge so that each letter is addressed to one individual from the excel sheet? Do I have to type each person's info in manually? I have over 200 records.

    Welcome to the discussions, Tiffany.
Use Tools/Mail Merge Manager and follow through the steps.
But that is not an Apple Mail and Address Book question!

  • How do I import my email and address book from Netscape mail 7.1?

I've been using Netscape Mail 7.1 since it first came out, but I'm moving to the Apple Mac world and need to keep my old emails. I've been told by the Apple Genius Bar people that I could do this with Thunderbird.

In the absence of anything to the contrary I will assume a US version http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/3.1.20/win32/en-US/
Thunderbird 3.1 is linked. stable and has the necessary bits.

  • HT2486 My address book only displays e-mails. How can I sync it with my i-phone to display the address book the same way as my contacts in my i-phone?

Currently my address book only displays e-mail addresses. It uses the portion of the address in front of the @ as the name. How can I sync it with my i-phone 4S that has name/numbers and addresses of my contacts?

    Hello there, Seta.
You are correct that this can be done with iCloud. The following Knowledge Base article provides some great instruction for syncing contacts:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1296
    Particularly:
    Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, and Notes
You can sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and notes with other applications on your computer. This allows you to keep all your information in sync across multiple computers and iOS devices. The settings for these items are all in the Info tab for your iOS device in iTunes. With your iOS device connected to the computer, select your iOS device. Then click the Info tab.
For details on syncing content on your iOS device with your computer, click the sections below.
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Contacts" in OS X v10.8, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" in OS X v10.7 and earlier.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
Address Book (Mac OS X v10.7 and earlier)
    Contacts (Mac OS X v10.8)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
Additional options for syncing include syncing your contacts with Yahoo or Gmail/Google Mail. You will need to configure it with the user name and password for your Yahoo or Google account.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • How do I transfer Yahoo e-mail addresses to the Contact app?

How can I transfer my e-mail addresses from my Yahoo address book to the Contact app on the main screen of the iPod touch? If I go into my Yahoo mail on the iPod, the addresses are there but if I click directly on the Contacts app on the main screen it's blank. I'm just setting up my new IPod touch and I've read and re-read the synch directions over and over but other than just plugging it in there's nothing that tells me HOW to move the addresses to the "Contact app" where I'd like to be able to access them from. I'm thinking there must be a better way than to enter everything manually...
Thanks in advance for your help!

Now I have and it worked perfectly!!! Thanks very much. When I went into the iTunes the first time, I missed all the tabs across the top of that screen. For a beginner, the whole iTunes thing is way to busy! My opinion ofcourse. Thanks again!

  • How to transfer PC's address book over to my new Mac's address book?

My first Mac arrives Monday -- a Mac Mini. I can't figure out how to transfer my Window ME's Outlook Express address book on my PC over to my new Mac's Mail address book. The two computers will not be networked together. Thanks for any help on this.

You'll need to export it out of Outlook Express to a Comma Separated Vars (CSV), a Tab-Delimited text file, or as vCards. You can then import any of those using the Import… command in Address Book. I don't know what custom fields OE supports, some may not import.
