How to transfer  photos from a MAC to a USB external storage drive?

Just the Photos? Or the Library?
If it's the Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • How do I transfer photos from my mac mini to my external hard drive without iPhoto?

I am trying to get my already downloaded onto my mac photos onto my external hard drive but my computer will not alow me to.
    Any Help?

I've been trying to do the same myself, want to move pictures from my new iMac to my new Macbook Air, made the switch big time!   I thought that a Mac was famous for ease of use.   Plug in passport usb portable, find it in the finder, open another finder winder, try to drag photo library over..... nope.    Open the Iphoto program, edit, select all, drag to passport...... nope.  Extremely frustrating.  On a PC it would be done in minutes or less.  Either my head is in the wrong place or I'm missing something.   GGRRRRRRR     Any help would be appreciated before they both go back in their boxes and I pull the PC back out of the closet.   LOL

  • Please tell me where I can find information on how to transfer photos, from my mac, into an inserted SD disc.

PLease tell me how to transfer photos, on my mac, to an inserted SD disc.

    Katty 1,
if you meant transferring photos from your MacBook Pro to a SD card, note that all of the Retina MacBook Pros have a SDXC card slot. Thus, you would insert a SD card into the SDXC card slot, and an icon representing your SD card should appear on your desktop. You can then drag photos from your Mac to the SD card icon in the same way that you would drag an icon to copy to any other drive. The SD card icon should be dragged to the Trash (to “eject” it) before you remove the card from the slot.

  • HT201593 How to transfer photos from a Mac to my iPhone via USB?

I know how to transfer photos iPhone --> Mac, bit I can't find instructions anywhere for transferring photos Mac --> iPhone, not via USB, which one would think is the fastest and safest alternative.
Running latest Yosemite, all apps up to date + iPhone up to date as well.
    Please advice

Sync the phone to iTunes. Configure iTunes sync for Photos to include the photos you want to transfer. Or you put your photos into iPhoto and simply sync from iPhoto as the source.

  • Is there a way to transfer photos from a mini ipad to an external hard drive?

I'm looking to back up my photos and was thinking of getting an external hard drive, is there a way to transfer from mini ipad to an external hard drive? Or... Is there a better/simpler way of backing photos up? Thanks!

It's a great idea to back up your photos. Connect your iPad to the computer you normally sync with. Instead of starting iTunes start the image capture software you use with your camera. That software will allow you to copy photos taken with your iPad or copied using the Camera Connection Kit or copied from websites or emails to your computer.
Once on your computer you can back them up to an external hard drive. Having your photos in more than one location is also a good idea.

  • Not SURE HOW TO TRANSFER PHOTOS  FROM A "MAC CD" FOR USE A PC

I didn't expect a problem, but have run into one this weekend.
Looking thru old photos, I came across a photo disk from Ritz Camera containing pix from 2006. Wanted to pass along the pix (along with other photos and documents) to a friend who has a PC.
After burning all the data onto a fresh CD, I tested the disk on a PC and found all the other files could be opened except for the items from the original Ritz CD.
Those items included three separate folders, nested within a single fourth one.
The folders were labeled "Ritz Documentation" . . . "Preview" and "Pictures".
The last two appeared to contain identical JPG items, but I left them all intact.
I'm not particularly PC savvy, and the owner of the PC computer has departed, so I had to wing it on my own. The only thing close to a photo manipulation application I could find on the PC was Picassa, which located the disk and files in the CD drive and was able to read the three other individual items, but could only recognize the three Ritz files. When I clicked on them it said they were "invalid" documents.
Any idea on what I'm doing wrong?
I know the files were readable by the owner's previous PC in 2004, so assumed they would be now, as well. I also still can see clearly the copies I transfered to my Mac and did nothing to them, except drag the entire original folder from my Mac to the new CD.
If the files can't be copied this way, would it make any more sense to transfer all the files directly from the Ritz CD to the PC and add the other 3 files from the CD I created . . . then transfer them all to a new CD for burning?
Sounds convoluted and time consuming, but I need to complete this project today, so am ready to try anything.
    Any insight or suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Sory, I can't find the name of the MacUser who steered me onto the right path, but do think I remember thanking him via e-mail.
If I'm mistaken, thanks a bunch. I finally finished transferring all the photos onto a CD. Actually completed one project , which I was able to test on a PC.
Have run into a second, smaller one on the current project, which I I think I probably should post separately.

  • How to transfer photos from one make to another

How to transfer photos from one mac to another wirelessly

I can give you a few ways to so:
First (and my favorite way) is the one said above.  First, on the computer with the photos on it, you have to do is turn on file sharing (go to system preferences, sharing, file sharing) and have both computers on the same network.  Second, have the computers you want the photos on, and launch finder.  On the sidebar, there should be a "sharing" category, and below it should be the computer with the photos on it.  Click on it, and you will be prompted for the computer username and password.  It will then show all of the files on your computer.  Then, just find the files, copy them (command-C) and paste them to where you want them! (If this confuses you, I can upload a video step-by-step on how to do this).
My second way is to use air drop. To start, Both computers must be on the same network.  Then, on the computer with the photos on it select all of the photos you want to send to the other computer (you can select many photos by holding the command key and clicking on photos), right-click (control-click) on the selected photos, find the button share, and click air drop.  On the computer you want the photos on, go to air drop on the side bar.  You should see the name of the computer on the radar-looking screen.  Click your computer.  The photos should begin to download to the downloads folder. (This feature is only compatible with certain computers)

How can I transfer photos from my mac to my ipad?

If you are have iTunes 11 on your Mac then you may want to re-enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (option-command-S on a Mac), which might make it easier to navigate.
To sync photos, connect and select your iPad on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes, and on the right-hand side there should be a series of tabs, one of which should be Photos - if you select that tab you can then select which photo folders (or iPhoto ro Aperture albums) to sync to the iPad. There is a bit more info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad (unless you want to remove all synced photos), instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.

How to transfer photos from a camera chip to my Mac Pro Desk Top?

Take the memory card out of the camera and insert it into a card reader then use Finder to copy the iomages over to a folder on the Mac desktop.
Basically the exact same way you would do it on any make or model computer.

How can I transfer photos from my Mac Book Pro to my windows computer.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Transfer them to an external disk formatted in "MS-DOS (FAT)" with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
If you have the pictures in iPhoto, choose them with the Command key, go to File menu (on the menu bar) > Export, and copy them to the external disk. Then, connect your external disk to the PC and move them.
If you have the pictures in Finder, steps are the same, but in this case, you will have to drag the pictures you chose to the external disk that you can find in the Finder sidebar, under "Devices"
