I have over 7000 photos on my Western Digital portable hard drive "My passport for Mac" and want to transfer them onto a Verbatim DVD-R disk. My reason being I want to reset the hard drive as I errored by partitioning it where as I shouldent have.

if these photos are stored on iPhoto, try to select all your photos > file menu > export > choose destination disk.
If they are already in a specific folder, just select it and choose burn to disk.

I've got a Mac Book and have ran out of space.
How to I delete photos i don't want any more from my hard drive? It seems that if I only delete them from iphoto is not enough.
I don't see individual photo documents stored in my hard drive as would have seen in Windows environment.

You won't actually see the pictures deleted. They are stored in User/Picture/iPhoto Library. When you delete pics in iPhoto, the size of that library should be reduced
If you right click on the library, select "Show Contents", and you will be able to see all your images in the "Master" folder.

Problems uploading photos from portable hard drive

Is it essential to store photos in "My pictures" in order to upload them to my Ipod? I have a large number of photos, so I store them on a separate (portable) hard drive, attached to the main computer. When attempting to sync my photography, I have directed itunes to the correct folder. But I get an error message saying syncing is not possible. I have read many similar complaints on the Internet, but have not yet read a solution. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I just upgraded my drive (same computer) and installed leopard. My older drive has my imported and purchased music on it. Running under Tiger. I can access the drive with a remote kit, so all files from the old drive are still accessable.

I've tried doing that, and had an odd result. All of the names of the songs are added to my library, but when I attempt to listen to well over half of them, I get an error message:
"The song "__" could not be used because it could not be found. Would you like to locate it"
And indeed, the only music that shows up in the finder window are songs that will play. The very newest music seems to play, including things purchased from iTunes. Tech support said they can't help with the issue because of copyright concerns, but I just don't want to put 5 crates full of CDs into my computer one by one!
Any thoughts?

So my motherboard on my old PC died. I therefore pulled the hard-drive from my old computer and patiently waited on my new toy to come in. Problem is, I didn't have a chance to do my weekly synch before my old system crashed. I'd like to get the history/favorites off of my old hard-drive, but I'm not sure how to go about it. The OS are also different - old PC was Windows 7, new is 8.1.
Suggestions?

You need the places.sqlite file to restore history.
Note that this file stores the bookmarks as well, so you will lose bookmarks that you already have created.
The file structure in Windows 8 is the same as in Windows 7 and Windows Vista.

How to import photos from external hard drive and exclude duplicate images

Hi,
I apologize if this is easy, but I can't seem to find out how to do it. I have an external hard drive that I used to back up my photos when I was in the Windows environment. I want to import these into iPhoto and/or Aperture, but how do I exclude duplicates that I may already have in iPhoto?? Also....should I import them into BOTH programs, or just bring them into iPhoto and selectively bring them into Aperture when I want to edit?

You really should choose between Aperture and iPhoto. Both are Photo organisers, both manage your photos. You need to decide which one is primary. Then only import to that one.
Aperture is the more powerful of the two. If you’re shooting RAW then deciding on Aperture is a no-brainer. It’s easier to have files in Aperture and share them with iPhoto than the other way around.
If you’re not shooting RAW, if the volume of photos is small, then stick with iPhoto.

Aperture is not an editor, like Photoshop. Like iPhoto it’s a database application.

You have made changes to your photo library using a newer version of iPhoto. Please quit and use the latest version of iPhoto.

Exactly how did you do that? The correct way to move an iPhoot library is to verify that the hard drive is formattted Mac OS extended (journaled) and then to drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to it - reverse to bring it back - just drag it from the EHD to the pictures folder (default location) on your computer
Why are you doing this?
you can try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database - depending on what has been going on this might resolve things

Connect the computer to another Mac and put it in FireWire Target Disk mode, or use the Disk Utility to clone the drive or image specific folders with the USB drive as the target. After you've copied off everything you want, you'll likely need to erase the drive and reinstall the applications.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
